Last of Round 2 and we've ending with a hammer blow. Two absolute fan favourites here, but only one will progress.
I've written 16 of these bloody things in the last couple of weeks so I hope you'll forgive if I just say forget The Filth, forget Shadowpact or Ant Man's Big Christmas. Only work for Tharg to be consider, though discuss what you like. BANG
And we're done - HOOOZZZAAAHHHH
Alas we have to pick our favourite and to do so just pop the name of the art droid you'd most like to go through to the Quarter Finals, but please add anything else you'd like to say as well.
Phil Winslade - more info (http://www.2000ad.org/?zone=droid&page=profiles&choice=philw)

Chris Weston - more info (http://www.2000ad.org/?zone=droid&page=profiles&choice=CHRISW)
This one will close and be counted on the morning of Friday 22nd January

Winslade for me
Phil Winslade
Phil Winslade is brilliant, but as I've enjoyed his work for more years than I care to count I'm going with Chris Weston.
A finely matched pair, very hard to choose between the two but I'm going for Phil Winslade I think. Ask me again and I'll just switch back and forth between these two until doomsday, though.
broodblik - those images just go to show while we can draw similalities between these to, certainly on the level of exquisite detail they use - their actual style and end result is very different. I kinda thought this one would be tough but maybe it just come down to a similar decision about stylisit preferences. Also their page design approaches can be very different as well.
Winslade. Lawless is one of those comics that will be talked about for decades to come.
SBT
Chris Weston
I prefer his level of clean detailing and higher contrast.
As artists, there's nothing in it; but as practitioners of 2000ADness, gotta give my vote to Chris Weston (if only because he had more opportunities to strut his imagination).

Both these artist technically awesome, they have such detail work and it is such difficult choice to make - I will put the choice on the same level as which is your favourite child
Such a hard choice... I'm going with Winslade for the awesomeness that is Lawless.
Urgh. Weston gets it for me, primarily on the basis of his massive catalogue of great work, but it's testament to Winslade's skill and wonderful Lawless work that his output on a single strip nearly swung it for me.
Weston for me. Nothing at all against Winslade - Lawless is exceptional - but Weston is 2000ad through and through. I feel like I have watched him grow through the years.
One of the hardest one so far. Winslade.
Chris Weston.
Chris Weston.
Clear choice for me: Phil Winslade.
Chris Weston's current art is outstanding, and I don't know how Phil Winslade manages to get so much detail on to every page without taking an infinite amount of time.
I'm going to side with Phil Winslade right now but only because I wasn't that gone on some of the Weston art Canon Fodder facial expressions from 25 years ago and I need some kind of rationale for my choice.
Chris Weston
phil
Weston. One of the all-time great comics artists.

I spend about a day zoomed right into Phil's art when I'm lettering an episode of Lawless, constantly getting distracted by the sheer density of detail... and then I learned that he draws his pages at
actual print size. The man must have microscopes where his eyes should be.

Goodness gracious how long does he take to do a page? His detail on each page is absolutely staggering awesome.
Weston
For the Iscariot alone, Chris Weston.
Very close one for me but I will go for Phil Winslade...
Seems fitting that the final vote for Round 2 seems to be very close. Any votes today could move this one so get um in and I'll count um up in the morning when this one finishes.
This is like WW2 with the 2Ws
Phil Winslade. I considered not voting this round, this is getting too difficult. However, I spend so much time pouring over the art in Lawless, I've got to give it to Phil.
VOTING CLOSED
Okay well I often way get you votes in they might swing it and the last vote here did. I've counted and recounted and this one hasn't got the way I thought it was going. I knew it was close but I thought the glorious detailed art of Chris Weston had it... then I save how close it was this morning and as I got to Rogue Judge's vote for Phil Winslade I counted my first tie of both tourneys. Normally I'd dread this BUT
Chris Weston's art has developed into a wonder. I'll be honest we saw him grow on the page before us and so I'm not a fan of his earlier work. Phil Winslade has the advantage of doing his opus as a fully developed artist and so his work for Tharg is by far the finest I have seen by him. There is however no doubt in my mind. I love Chris Weston's work, I love his passion and enthusiasm for the Prog but Phil Winslade's more dynamic and creative page designs absolutely carry this for me and so
Phil Winslade
Is through to the Quarters...
I purposefully sat this one out. There are artists I prefer to both but the sheer skill, technical ability, imagination, attention and craft each of them brings is astonishing and there was no way I could split them. 2000ad is blessed to have both of them in their stable.

Yeah there's no doubt that this was a particularly tough one. Both the last two got fewer votes, so it might be down to timing OR it might be down to the hardness of the choice... it ain't going to get any easier I have to say as we move into...

Yes, Chris earlier work was not so great. He certainly become one of the top artist in the prog. So in that sense it make sense that you cast your vote for Winslade. Both these gentlemen are technical awesome artist.

I'm going to say this now and except it will get me run out of town. I'm not actually that fussed by his art on Killing Time. It falls into a similar place as Massimo Belardinelli for me. Its wonderful world building and scope of imagination but the character work leaves something to be desired.
As with Massimo I fully understand that puts me in a miniority.
I think that in most of these contests, and certainly from the next round onwards, there are no 'wrong' selections. Deciding who to pick comes down to some really marginal hairs-breath differences because you've got to pick someone. We're tremendously lucky to be able to enjoy such phenomenal artwork down the years.
I think I'm going to start doing imaginary art-swaps for the artists greatest works to help decide: Carlos on Nemesis, Kev O'Neill on Slaine, McMahon on the Apocalypse War, that kind of thing.

Oh man there are some very exciting possibilities there!
Good choice Colin, Winslade's page design are so very creative and its fun to study all the details within.
