Unfinished versions of Judge Dredd: Dredd Vs. Death sent out for review

Rebellion, developer of the forthcoming Judge Dredd: Dredd Vs. Death for PC, PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube announced today that due to a duplication error at a third party, unfinished beta builds of the game have been sent out for review as ?finished? games to a number of magazines across PC, PlayStation 2 and Xbox formats.

Rebellion are currently investigating how this happened, and trying to track down the rogue builds of the game.

Rebellion CEO and Creative Director Jason Kingsley says, ?We first realised there had been some sort of foul-up when we started hearing feedback from the early round of magazine reviews, which highlighted issues with the game that we knew had been sorted out in later builds of the game. Obviously this is a massive blow to us, as we have been working on Dredd for a number of years and we have a great deal of faith in the game, backed up by the warm responses we have seen and had reports of from people who have played the correct versions. Our aim now is to make sure that all remaining review copies of the game to be sent out will be finished builds that offer an accurate picture of the quality of the game.?

It has also been announced that the release date for Judge Dredd: Dredd Vs. Death on PC, PS2 and Xbox has now been moved back to the early part of October. A specific release date will be announced when it is confirmed. Currently the GameCube release date of 21 November is unaffected.

About Rebellion
Oxford-based super-developer Rebellion was started by brothers Jason and Chris Kingsley just over ten years ago. Rebellion has developed such games as the double BAFTA-nominated Aliens Vs. Predator for 20th Century Fox on the PC, which was launched to worldwide acclaim in 1999 and reached the number one slot in games charts throughout the world. Current games in development include Judge Dredd: Dredd Vs Death for Vivendi and IronStorm and Sniper Elite for Wanadoo. In June 2000 Rebellion bought the hugely influential sci-fi comic 2000AD. Rebellion is now working on a number of games featuring 2000AD characters, and has announced plans to make two new Judge Dredd movies. I told Tharg two wees ago that the dictators of Zrag were overdue to make a return appearance.

How surprised will he be to find them working for Rebellion in dispatch?!

Mek-Quake is waiting for them, when he catches them!

Urg!  Nightmare!

This must be a bit gutting after all the hard work.  Oh well, hope it all gets sorted soon enough.

So I'm guessing that this will mean a renewed push at Christmas time when all the magazines can have cover mounted free levels, dredd freebies to give them a chance to trumpet how REALLY good the game is?
However good the game becomes without a serious push can the lost impetus and the worrying bits from early reviews be overcome?
Bloody better had do!
I want to see the promise of other 2000ad characters being made into games, and if a game based on the main character can't make it? Pfffff

I also hope that the 3rd party company is outed to the industry, people like that I guess everyone can do without.

Quirkafleeg

If you give us a game, and somethign to play it on like, I'll tell everyone I know (and pass in the street) how good it is... that should make up for it.

That is very unfortunate - I hope the brouhahah doesn't cause to much trouble for Rebellion and that the relevant heads roll.  Mk13, feel free to add the "Third party" to the "second up against the wall" thread.

Good news for me though because I'd been slightly put off by the so far average reviews (I always deduct two points from any game's mark out of ten (four if it's star wars))  so I'd decided to leave it and pick it up in the bargain bins in a years time.

This news however, means that it may well be back on my Gamecube Christmas list (the only other thing I want for Christmas would be some time to play it).
Be excellent to each other. And party on!

thanks MK13.
good to hear it from the horses mouth.lets hope its something you can sort out soon and does not cause huge problems at this stage for rebellion.

My new freedom fighters, the Undersea Agitators, hereby claim responsibility for this atrocity.

The codeword is "scrotum."

You have my deepest sympathy, version control issues suck ass.

Official Playstation mag pick up on glitchiness (7 out fo 10), so presumably they?ve got a rogue copy? so what's the plan to try and rectify these bad reviews?  Would mags bother to explain away someone elses error?  And if they do, does this mean I have to buy another set of mags to get the true picture!? :)

Devons Daddy

does this mean I have to buy another set of mags to get the true picture!? :)

no the true picture is:
this game is so good. that micro soft are delaying the launch of halo 2 and every shoot em till january rather then waste there time going head to head with this pure gaming experience.

Presumably the demo versions are OK?  Will they still be appearing on next months cover discs, or are they delayed as well?

Mk13

AFAIK, all demo versions that appear should be fine and appearing as scheduled.

Cheers - thats good news in terms of putting out something that'll show the game in its best light before the release - whet peoples appetite.. tis only a couple of weeks til PC Zone comes out..anyone want to start a countdown? :)
