Unless you're on a desert island, I think avoiding what's coming up is pretty difficult.

If they run true to form, I'm sure the Beeb will be trailing the finale well in advance...

Definitely my fave so far - it would have been cool to have a more crunchy sound effect on the head-sucking bit though. The self-destruction animation was a bit off though...

Aren't they returning for the final two episodes?

General / Humpties?
28 April, 2005, 02:57:58 AM
Hi,

I've been listening to some old Ricky Gervais Xfm shows, and the topic was nursery rhymes... anyway there was a thing about the origin of Humpty Dumpty being a cannon defending the castle in Colchester, not an egg-shaped guy...

Was there ever a story in 2000AD which had some kind of weaponry or robots called Humpty Dumptys? It sounds like something that might have been in a strip like Tor Cyan... it just rings a bell and it's bugging me.

Thanks,

Steve

I thought the whole thing about kryptonite is that it is fragments irradiated by Kryption's exploding sun.

Since that green crystal is placed in before Krypton goes boom, it's not irradiated.

i.e. peas

It's the liposuction that always gets me - just the way they keep poking around under the skin with a bit of metal... brrrr...

Hi,

I get the reason for doing it in the first place - it would have got round the Mary Whitehouse brigade when the comic started, I just wondered if there was  much of a backstory as to how the religion started in the strip itself.

I quite like the idea that a majority of Church of Grud priests would be Wally Squad - I'm sure there have been stories with confessionals being used for intelligence - it would make sense for Justice Dept to do it themselves.

Cheers

Hi,

I was just wondering - was there ever any backstory about the origins of the Grud/Jovis religion in Dredd?

I was wondering if it had been implied that it was established covertly by Justice Dept so that could supplant existing religions with one that they could influence?

Cheers,

I thought it was a lot better than the pilot, although it still feels a little rushed compared to an equivalent US Show of the same length for some reason.

Not sure about this 'last of the timelords thing' though, I thought it was better when he was a renegade and the rest of them were still around.

I'd love to see Anthony Head as the Doctor. Not sure if he'd want to be in another genre show, but I think he'd be ideal.

Not sure about David Tennant, haven't seen him in anything so far, although he's in a live production of Quatermass on BBC4 this weekend.

Pah, I need to change the board back to the old style, I didn't notice anyone had replied :).

If you can afford it, and you're going to use it a lot I'd definitely go for a Wacom over the cheaper tablets.

Painter (www.corel.com) is worth a look as well as an alternative to Photoshop, there are some lovely brushes like digital watercolour.

Hi,

I was wondering what people's opinion of CG-enhanced art in strips is. Not straightforward colouring as such, more the equivalent of fully painted art which is done by the same artist.

Is it here to stay or is it a trend like the fully painted strips that became common after the Horned God?

I think it would be great to see an interview in the meg with those artists who use it, especially with regards to the reasons for switching - i.e. was it purely an economic decision or a creative one.

Cheers

I do think the dinos are pretty weak looking, more Far Side than Jurassic Park.

Didn't John Burns criticise some aspect of Simon F's art on Dante in a Meg interview?

I'd hope he's big enough to take criticism himself.
