Help! / Lost Property 2: Creators Wanted!
09 August, 2005, 06:40:09 PM
The strips no one else have a home for are making a return...and this time it's personal!

The mighty Bolt-01 lithographic press is preparing to unleash Lost Property 2: Revenge of the Strip upon an unsuspecting world at the Brighton Comic Expo in November, this time featuring increases in both size and quality of strips, making this quite possibly one of the best Small Press title to be available at said con.

However, there is still time for you puny mortals who wish to compete with those god-like presences who have already deigned to step down from Olympus to produce strips for the tome. You just need to think of a strip of between three and five panels, that can either be humorous or adventure in theme, and should end with either a punchline or a cliffhanger of some kind. LP2 is open to anyone who wants to contribute (though please note - no timewasters, please!): don't worry if you feel that you haven't got the abilities to either write or draw such a strip, as it is easier than it looks and is actually quite a fun activity that takes up surprisingly little time. Artists will be hooked up with scripts, though if you have an idea of your own, please don't hesitate to mention it. Remeber, you will be getting your work in print and distributed to a wide number of individuals, so why not give it a go - what have you got to lose?

More info can be obtained by contacting whistlerstrip@gmail.com or by following the link below.

Be part of the Bolt-01 machine's plans for worldwide Mecha-domination, or prepare to be absorbed!

Off Topic / London + Drink = Shed?
21 July, 2005, 01:31:34 AM
Due to certain circumstances not worth going into here, I'll be down in central London for a drink on Auguest 3rd (which I think is a Wednesday).

Do London boarders fancy making it one of these semi-regular meet up/drinking/talking bollocks sessions? Or is that date a problem? If so, I'm sure we can work out one that's amenable to the majority.

Usual place, usual time?

Future Quake is proud to announce that issue 6 is going to be an all-horror themed issue, and the editors want to hear from you. Whatever your idea, whether it be the itching, creeping dread of some nameless terror, or Cannon & Ball meet the Blood Dummy from Mars, we are looking for submissions from writers and artists who feel that they have a story to tell.

Check out the News section on the front of the website for more details. Writers and artists interested in submitting work should check out the new Submissions Guidelines on the messageboard (until we are able to update them to the website proper).

A bus stops and 2 Italian men get on. They sit down and engage in an animated conversation. The lady sitting next to them ignores them at first, but her attention is galvanized when she hears one of them say the following:

"Emma come first. Den I come. Den two asses come together. I come once-a-more. Two asses, they come together again. I come again and pee twice. Then I come one lasta time."

"You foul-mouthed sex obsessed swine," retorted the lady indignantly.
"In this country.......we don't speak aloud in public places about our sex lives........"

"Hey, coola down lady," said the man.
"Who talkin' about a sex? I'm a justa tellin' my frienda how to spell 'Mississippi'."

Help! / Contacting SFX?
26 May, 2005, 08:59:28 PM
I don't know if anyone can help me with this, but I'm trying to find out how I could contact the SFX Farenheit 451 column (small press and fanzines). I've tried their website, but I couldn't find any obvious person or address where I could write/send to, and I went round the newsagents and into WH Smiths yesterday, but nobody seems to have a copy.

CAn anyone offer me a clue of some kind?

Sorry rac (and any other people who enjoy this poorly rendered cgi shitfest of dreary inevitability), but Mr. Straczynski ain't even entering the building:

"A message from JMS.
Due to a worsening ear infection since flying back from Toronto last week, my Doctor explained that if I get on a plane anytime in the next seven to ten days, I risk blowing out my left eardrum and potentially losing my hearing in that ear. This is, unhappily, a recurring problem. This happened before when I was working on Jeremiah, and I had to take a train from LA to Vancouver (Unfortunately, there are as yet no trains from the US to the UK). My apologies to the UK fans who were looking forward to my visit (both of you), and I hope we can try this again."

Oh, I'm laughing so hard tight now...

Links / The Gerry Anderson Complete Comic History
08 May, 2005, 10:55:24 PM
Anyone else seen this yet? Interesting stuff - from the early titles like Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and Space 1999 that featured artwork from the likes of Frank Bellamy, Ron Embleton and John M. Burns, to the later stuff like Terrahawks and (god help us) Space Precinct, which featured the likes of Jim Baikie, Kev Walker, Colin MacNeil and Andrew Currie, amongst many others.

I remember my best mate had the book below when we were kids:

News / Cooper vs. Rooney
25 April, 2005, 09:48:05 PM
I see in today's Guardian sport section that there's a half page (six panel) John Cooper drawn strip featuring Wayne Rooney and Rio (cousin of Les) Ferdinand.
I'm sure it's not the first time Cooper's appeared in The Guardian, as well as his excellent colour Roy of the Rovers strip in Private Eye last year.

Books & Comics / PONY SCHOOL
19 April, 2005, 07:50:28 PM
TALLY HO!

From the pages of Fairytale Princess and Action Stations comes the comic you'd always feared might exist, yet secretly yearned for all the same.

Featuring the artwork of veteran artist Bryan 'Begorrah' O'Coyle, and Jesus' Frisco and Gonzo, it's the comic Alan Grant described as:
"THE BEST COMIC I'VE NEVER READ!"

Like a wolf savaging a nun in a lift, it might be obscene but you can't help but look.

Galloping into the Bristol Comic Expo 14th-15th May 2005.

Classifieds / Pimping Like the Whore I Am
12 April, 2005, 07:56:50 PM
Yes, unfortunately I am attempting to get rid of my unwanted crap on the board. Apologies to all if I'm cluttering up what was a fairly neat and managable messageboard, and yes I do feel ashamed. However, after the ebay 'unpleasantness', I don't have anywhere to get rid of all this stuff, and I simply don't have the room anymore.

Basically, if someone wants to offer me something for any of these comics then I'll take it, but if you still want them and don't want to pay or exchange anything then you can still have them. It's first come first served, so grab what you want because anything left over is going in the bin.

General / Why is Byron in Such a Bad Mood?
12 April, 2005, 01:46:28 AM
Well, I'm a grumpy sod, so what's new?

Well, the person who manages to suggest the most gonzo, biazarre reason for my bitter persona today that makes me laugh the most will win themselves something genuinely nice. I've a stack of comics, videos and so on at home, so I'll work out three prizes for three winners: whoever comes first gets their choice of prizes, whilst second place get's to choose between two, and third will just be lucky to get what they recieve.

Competition closes between when I finish work this time tomorrow and Wednesday morning, so get slagging, and put a smile on an old grump's face.

Off Topic / Beware - The Pope Lives!
09 April, 2005, 06:47:41 PM
As reported by Reuters:

"Friday April 19th 2005

Jackson, Indiana: Local Baptist minister Fred Pesto yesterday claimed that he had seen the recently deceased Pope John Paul II alive and well and lurking outside his curch.
"I saw that undead Pope with my own two eyes. He was sitting on a bench over the other side of the road from the ministry. He didn't look like he knew where he was, but he had one eye on me the whole time he sat there, with his Popish inscutability. And he appeard to have developed the power of flight."
Pesto claimed that he followed the former pontiff to a local park, where he witnessed the Pope kill and eat a number of local wildfowl, before loosing sight of him whilst he flew toward the sun.
"I don't know where he went, but I do know that he's out there somewhere now, planning his vengeance against the whole human race, God help us all".
Yet other local religious leaders, such as Jed Knives of the Lutheran Church of Latter-Day Saints, poured scorn of Pesto's claims:
"I guess I've seen just 'bout everything, the day I see a zombie Pope fly!"
The Vatican has denied claims that the Pope burried yesterday was merely a shoddy mannequin made of cloth and straw, operated by a series of strings and pulleys.

Off Topic / Watchmen Bites the Dust
08 April, 2005, 11:56:17 PM
As was reported in various trade journals, Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy) $120 million projected adaptation of Watchmen, due to enter pre-production this week, has instead been cancelled, putting Greengrass amongst other filmmakers who have failed to successfully adapt the book for the silver screen, including Terry Gilliam (Brazil), Darren Aranofsky (Pi) and David Hayter (X-Men scriptwriter).

Good riddence.
