Don't know if anyone else saw that there was a free preview edition of the old sixties educational magazine/comic Look and Learn with thguardian recently. Anyway, it's a nice newspaper-style reprint of various articles and strips from the comic's heyday, including Don Lawrence's gorgeous Trigan Empire, by way of building anticipation for the upcoming relaunch of the title next year.

Anyway, if anyone wants a copy, we were handed a great stack of them at work, so drop me a line if you want a copy...while stocks last!

The preview issue was great. Had a nice varied range of stuff in it. I loved the strip art & spot pictures, Trigan in particular.

I was wondering though, if DC own the rights to The Trigan Empire, and Titan have already been allowed to reprint Spider and Steel Claw, Do you think that Titan might reprint Trigan? Iâ??d love to get it in their Dan Dare hardbound format.

Byron Virgo

Ummm...I don't think DC *do* own the rights to Trigan Empire, do they? Or has something happened recently that I'm unaware of? If so, wouldn't that conflict with the ongoing (and very expensive) reprint series?

The Spider and The Steel Claw were owned by IPC, which is now the property of Aol/Time Warner, but as far as I know Look and Learn wasn't and isn't.

Look and Learn was published by IPC and they retained copyright until about two years ago.
The company that is producing the 'new' Look and Learn bought the copyright to it along with other IPC nursery titles like Jack and Jill and Tiger Tim.
I was under the impression that the company producing the current Trigan Empire and Storm collections had bought the rights but I might be wrong.

I took it that DC owned the rights to The Trigan Empire as there is some small print on the first page reprinting it in the Look & Learn reprint stating â??Published with permission of DC Comics, the international licensee of IPC Media.â??

Iâ??m not sure if the people who are printing the European collections of Don Lawrenceâ??s comic work have exclusive rights to trade reprints of Trigan or not.
