There's no shame in being wrong - apart from looking like a complete tit, of course (still, 'Campion of D.I.6.' has a nice ring to it...)

Funnily enough, immediately after I posted the message, I started having doubts. I tell you what made me think of Kennedy though - it wasn't the inking style, but the colouring. Cam has this habit of blending colours - marine blues, pond greens, turquoise, yellow, etc - that you never really pick up in any other artist's colour scheme (at least those that hand colour their work: Chris Blythe sometimes comes close to the approach with some of his best colour work, usually with either Kennedy or Steve Parkhouse).

Jim: if you still want some hi-res files, sendmail me and I'll email them to you (Jpegs, 200dpi).http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/BVirgo01/Action1980_Dredger3.jpg">

Cam's style is based on the superb Victor de la Fuente.

V. DLF did loads of War and Battle picture Library books amongst other things, and is one of the greatest draughtsmen ever.

I think I just found some of the best comic dialogue ever...'cuban heels' above is just brilliant.

And those "not cuban heels" are making him look like a nutcracker

I do like the notion that Dredger is "addicted" to Cuban heels... every man's gotta have his cross to bear.

Never knew that Cam was influenced by de la Fuente, though in retrospect perhaps it should have been obvious - cheers, Rufus!http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/BVirgo01/Action1980_Dredger4.jpg">

I've just read the courtesy blurb for all new users about not abusing anyone for their religeous beliefs and my first image is Dredger killing the Pope or a priest ! Ah yes 2000 A.D you just can't beat it !

"Heya... It's Studio work done to look like the Great Geoff Campion. Campion did a lot of art for Action, and most of thelater Dredgers.

This Annual story isn't his work, but is attempting to be."

Given that I am no kind of expert, I'm quietly pleased at how close I got on my first guess ...!

Touching on the subject of the wonderfulness of this board ... Victor de la Fuente. For some reason I was familiar with the name, but I have just Googled up some of his work.

Oh my fuckin' word.

Oh. My. Fuckin'. Word.

Good Lord, Ruf ... how did I get to this decrepit age without ever being aware of Fuente's work?

Thank you, sir. You're a star.

Cheers!

My pleasure Jim,
Victor (and his Brother, Ramon) are utter genius, and any fan of 2000ad will love their art. They are some of the foundation blocks our Galaxy's greatest was built on.

Mick McMahon's favourite artist was Gino D'Antonio, and again, check out his linework. Dave Gibbons (Who was sharing a studio with Mick at the time in St.Albans) based his Rogue Trooper style on D'Antonio's liberal use of black, and expressive linework.

I guess that I am not that surprised, but the Dredger story is incredibly racist. Where did all those 'fiendish orientals' come from? Fu Manchu's family reunion?

Just to follow up on this, the blog pages linked below have a LOT of Victor de la Fuente's work on display. Consequently, they're very graphic-heavy, but if you were looking for confirmation of Rufus' words above, then look no further than here: //http://victordelafuente.blogspot.com/
