The BBC news is currently covering it, and as far as I can tell the police are doing their best to contain violent anti-democratic protestors who want to stop the referendum. I see some videos on social media that I assume are police taking ballot boxes into protective custody so nothing happens to them, and some of them have just dogpiled a guy who might have run them over if they didn't get him first - he certainly won't be using that wheelchair as a weapon ever again. My thoughts and prayers are with the brave police in this difficult time.
They're not taking the ballot boxes into protective custody, they're confiscating them as it's an illegal vote.
