Hello Squaxx,

I know this is horribly off topic, but MGS#10 comes out tomorrow in the States, and about 2 weeks later in the UK, from IDW comics.

I've done the line work, and Ashley Wood has tweaked and coloured this fine family publication, which promotes Assassination,Torture,Big Robots, Covert Ops and Blood Feuds.

Hope you like it.

Rufus

Oh... and Tank Girl #2 should be out soon too... I'm just finishing #4 now.

What do you mean by line work??

Did you do layouts, pencils with ashley inking  & colouring over your stuff?

It's lovely stuff, very loose and fluid.

I can't see your name on the credits on the cover pic, an over sight I hope.

BTW Rufus off topic... you still planning on coming over next week.

I'm off Monday and Tuesday so if you needa pick up from airport, give me a shout.

See you soon.

Hey Umpster,

I pencilled and inked MGS 9-12.

I'm creditted on inside cover as 'Layout' artist. People are ordering it on the strength of Mr Ashley Wood's work, hence no headlines!

I'll be over...gimme a call, I'm teaching during the day, but otherwise drinking and drawing.

:-)

Buddy

I'll certainly keep a look out for Metal Gear Solid in FP and try an' pick up issue 9 and urge other Squaxx to do like wise, we gotta support our local talent!

Cor, Rufus, them's nice.  Any chance of seeing your 'layouts' before Ashley spilled his cappuccino on them?

I picked up MGS#9 a couple of weeks back and, after a little scrutiny of the figure work (mostly the hands ;) ) your line work does appear from time to time from behind Ashley's digital brushes.

In all the bear-fueled confusion I may have forgot to say so at Bristol but well done on securing work with IDW- looking forward to seeing your collaborative efforts develop.
Obviously you're not a golfer.

Bart Oliver

*ahem*

That should be "beer-fueled". There were no bears at Bristol, at least none that I can recall.
Obviously you're not a golfer.

I liked this bit on IDW's submissions page:
"As much as we love Ashley Wood and Ben Templesmith, we have those guys... The editors here like to see backgrounds"

Ouch.

Here's a couple...

Ash has tweaked and generally improved all... (As you can see.. My art was probably more use for layouts!!

Ash redid a lot faces , shifting and molding... I had to do 2-3 a day so they are pretty scrappy. It was amazing doing this, and watching it come out the other end.. it's a lot of fun collaborating with others!

Oddly, that works for me, which I didn't really expect, not being a massive AW fan.  The B&W drawings are excellent standalone pieces, and its clear that Ashley's work should just be just a glorified colouring job, but strangely his washes do actually add something rather unique.  It is a bit rich to call the originals 'layouts' though, they're fully finished pages.   Fascinating insight, thanks Rufus!

+rufus+

Ash did do a lot of redrawing, getting it more on 'Ashley' model, sadly I can't draw like him.. So my stuff really is prep work for him...but still...a great gig.

The Tank Girl is shaping up nicely too. As usual hitting a rhythm just as you finish a project!!
