Ha - cheeky title given Rebellion's refusal to let them continue calling it Lawgiver. It's a Dreddcon in all but name.
Definitely one to be recommended - small and intimate, with great access to a fantastic line-up of guests. I've been going since the first one (in a sticky floored rock-club in Birmingham) and it's always a really good event. Props to Su and Iz and all the other organisers, and all the wonderful cosplayers (and those drunken bums from the DSCD).
Yup, this is a cracking gig. I missed a couple but made it for last years event- and Bristol is a grand place for a gig.
(I've let Su know about the typo for Dan...)
Heard good things about this event a while back so gonna give it a go, tickets and hotel booked 👍🏻😀.
Even the good wife is looking forward to the trip down.
Am I missing something or is the title of this thread wrong?
Ah hell, I didn't even realise I got the wrong year! Sorry folks - any chance of an adjustment from one of the mods?
Another guest has been announced...

Are you telling me I bought this time machine for nothing...?
Not at all- after all it explains how you were able to attend the Dredd screening with me and Dunk! a few years ago!
Thanks for sorting that, Bolt-01. 😁
I haven't been to any of the others. Seriously considering this!
Absolutely worth considering, Mardroid - and attending! It's a great event - lot's of drinking, lots of laughs, lots of social interaction with the guests, artwork and merchandise to buy, costumers and props for photo opportunities. The weekend just goes too quickly and I usually feel the post-con blues when going home, but I'd be going home with signed artwork, happy memories and new friends made. I can't wait for May to come around!
I've added some photos from last year's Lawgiver - they're not the best photos but they'll hopefully whet your appetite...! ;)

Another guest announcement - it's only bloomin' Greg Staples!
Bet his table's going to be busy..!

Big group from Belfast coming over. The way things are going now we'll be coming from another country ;) We've booked a table and will be launching Issue Five of Sector 13 (Belfasts 2000AD Fanzine). The craic will be lethal. Z
issue 5 already? Bloomin' ada.
I'll have a table this year (my first at a Lawgiver/Lawless) with copies of Zarjaz, Dogbreath as well as the latest FutureQuake & Something Wicked too.
I've also been invited to reprise my role in creating the convention programme too.
Should be a grand day out.

Two more guests have been announced - KEK-W and Abigail Bulmer...!

Indeed - I can't remember the chap's name but he always does amazingly inventive cosplay - it's not just the batshit-crazy ideas, it' the attention to detail, down to the colour of the jacket and the tablecloth - it was a fully working glove puppet too. He did Hewligan's Haircut for the 40th!

You had the first three last year, didn't you? Hope you bring copies of issue four as well (yes, I know it's just been released, but it's a lot easier to just buy them from the stall than do all the internet order / postage and packaging / etc).

Neither did I till Lawgiver - I told him how cool it was and we chatted about other imaginative cosplayers, and when I mentioned Hewligan, he said, "yeah, that was me" - photo evidence here: https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=43731.msg945723#msg945723 (https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=43731.msg945723#msg945723)
Iz McAuliffe wanted to claim the synthetti puppet that night when he said he didn't want to keep it - wonder if she ever managed to get it back on the train?
Here's a few more shots of the puppet...

Cool (I read the first three on the journey home from last year's LG).
Sheridan, hope you liked em as much as we love doing them. Issue four is our best yet. Z
Booked! Not the first comic convention I've been to, but the others were relatively local.
Technically it's not the first 2000ad specific one I've been to either as I did go to the 2000ad anniversary event a couple of years back, but I didn't see much of the main event itself. Money was tighter back then, but I had a free pass to the Strontium Dog fanfilm as I had a couple small roles In it. They were wrapping up the main event by that point. (I guess I could have come earlier but I didn't want to take liberties by gatecrashing the main thing.)
Stayed for the follow up film and drinks in the bar later though. It was nice, but it will be good to experience a real Dredd/2000ad convention!
I'd best book a hotel next, I guess!
Mr Mechanismo himself, Colin MacNeil has been announced!
The initial line up was great and and enough to get me to make the trip down from Edinburgh. They keep throwing in more and more driods with more to come 🤞🏻they say. I'm really looking forward to this. The wife says I'm acting like a wee boy looking forward to 🎅🏻. 😄😄😄
Looking forward to it too! Hotel booked already... Should probably book transport too now for a good deal...
Me too - Just had a text alert from The Trainline yesterday that advance tickets are now available
Great! Thanks, I'll check that out.
Chris Weston has just been announced as a guest - that's one hell of a line up!
Event has now sold out!
Also no tickets on the door.
Fantastic - 👍🏻 well done to all the organisers I can't imagine all the work that goes into organising these events.
Looking forward to the weekend & trip down.

Technically the upcoming con isn't 2000AD specific any more - though it will be interesting to see how many people cosplay as non-Tooth characters (I know of one so far).

EEK - I booked train and hotel, but thinking on it now, I don't think I secured my ticket!!! Any suggestions of who I might contact (non facebook) to wheedle my way in greatly appreciated.
PM you
Cheers! I've sent a begging e-mail to Su!
Panic over, ticket secured! - Phew!
Finished, two recreations of the opening double page spread from The Apocalypse War. A2 bristol board, fineliners, brush pen, sharpie, brush and ink and white Gellyroll pen. One is off to Enniskillen Comic Fest and the other to Lawless.

Hi folks - I have some exciting news about the Lawless Model Raffle!
As well as Carlos and the Gronk, I am also in receipt of a most beautiful fan-made item from a creator who wishes to remain anonymous.
Behold - the Carlos-style SOV HELMET AND BADGE!
This will be included in the Lawless Model Raffle!!
These are only available for raffle on the day of Lawless. Tickets will be £3 each or £10 for four.
Rules:
- If you are the first to be drawn you get to choose either the Sov helmet/badge set, or the Carlos/Gronk set.
- You can only win once. If your name is pulled again it will be discarded.
Remember, this is for Save the Children - please dig deep everyone, and good luck!

PS - the display stand where I'll be selling the tickets should be somewhere near front desk.
On my way, from hotel to Lawless, wearing the minimal uniform. Weapons and armour stashed in bags. Now I just look like an almost normal bloke with black jacket and chinos and a strange large gold coloured badge.
And a non regulations baseball cap. That will likely be swapped for something else later.
Whether or not I put on the other accoutrements depends on how many others are dressed up. I don't want to look like a tit alone.
Anyone going, be nice to meet ya. I'll be the tall bloke wearing a hat of some sort and an unnamed judge badge
A huge thank you to everyone who bought a raffle ticket for the Lawless Model Raffle!
Today we were aiming for about £300 towards the cause, but...
You have all contributed to a total of...
£876 for Save the Children!!!
I cannot say thank you enough for all of your generosity! An amazing result.
BUT THAT'S NOT ALL!
The online JustGiving Lawless Model Raffle closed today. We'll be doing a further draw for Werewolf Dredd, Don Uggie, and Cookie over the next few days - I'll post a video of the draw and contact the winners when done.
However, I can tell you that the JustGiving raffle finished at...
£500!!!
So overall, thanks to your generosity, we have raised a whopping £1376 for Save the Children!
Thank you everyone, and congrats again to today's winners, Mark Lamb and Matt Davies!
Well done, Mr Monkey

Not sure whether that's Steve Green in there or if he's taking the photo. Not sure whether he'd want to admit to being involved either way.
Colin MacNeil returns the favour of the Tharg (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mighty-One-Inside-Nerve-Centre/dp/1781084750) who gave him his break in comics. MacNeil's always been a great artist, but the recent addition of a talent for caricature to his formidable armoury makes me wonder if there's anything he's not brilliant at.
Even more impressive, MacNeil did this in the boozer:

It was Verity Lamb in Satanus, up against Steve Sterlaccini I believe!
We had a great day at our Sector 13 table. We were beside the mighty BOLT01. The five issues of the Fanzine went down really well and more than that, it was a delight to meet and talk with so many fellow fans. Z

What a great day that was. I got there nice and early to find myself next to the sector 13 lads and after a tense stand-off that almost elevated to a full-on 'Thunderdome' moment, we all got on great! Both Peter and Zen are very knowledgeable and their love for the source was evident throughout.
The gig was packed with faces old and new - and many copies of both Zarjaz & Dogbreath were sold. I bought some comics, picked up the limited edition Ezquerra pin from PReplicas and chatted all day long.
The cosplay was top notch - with lots of familiar sights (Max Normal was in full effect) and loads of new - Lawson was there as was a Carlos droid too.
There were loads of 'moments' but I'll highlight a long chat with Kek-W covering more ground than I think is polite to discuss here along with a very welcome trip to Wetherspoons with DanDontDare, Sheridan, ChiropteraRex, Rackle and BCB before my drive home. Grand to catch up.
Next year should be even bigger, so take my humble advice and get your tickets as soon as you can.
Really should have gotten a few photos of the cosplay - an inexhaustive list:
- Judge Death
- Lawson (from Lawless)
- Batman
- Deadlock
- Satanus
- Carlos the Art Droid (as drawn by Robin Smith)
- Judge Leia (mash-up)
- Junior Angel
- Judge Malificent (mash-up)
- Durham Red
- Judge Comedian (mash-up)
- Dennis the Menace
- sundry judges of various cities and territories
- Ma-Ma x2
- film version of Brit-Cit
- Sov-Judge Gagarin
- Rogue Trooper
- Johnny Alpha
- werewolf Judges x2 (presumably both Dredd)
- perp
- ...
Another splendid weekend - props to Su and the team for organising it. Bad back notwithstanding I had a blast. Amazing costumes, interesting schedule of panels and events, lots of lovely merch to drool over, and the sort of unhurried relaxed access to creators that you just don't get at bigger cons. Great to see all the regulars again, from the forum and from previous Lawgivers, but I talked to several people who were there for the first time and enjoying it.
I didn't win Monkey's amazing Carlos statue (nice work smashing the target by the way - a hairy moment there when it seemed both winners had gone home ), but I did win one of the pages from the artists draw-off - I am now the proud owner of a piece I call "Tank Girl Riding a Dragon whilst Eating a Cow Pie" by Colin MacNeil.
I added eight more signatures to my big book of droids (including a Tharg - they're worth double points!), but spent very little (except at the bar, which predictably ran out of draft ale by lunchtime). I picked up the lovely little Judge Ezquerra pin, but avoided the lure of original art although there were plenty of lush pages to be had.
Roll on next year :D
From the other side of the table, it's a great con. I must admit I'm not overly fond of doing events (I'm an introvert with fast-depleting social energies!) but this one has always been painless, friendly and there's a real family vibe to the whole thing. If you've never been, highly recommended!
Had the BEST time, as I always do! It's always over too soon, but I'm here with very happy memories and already looking forward to next year's event!

I think you have me confused with another guest/exhibitor but either way that is hilarious XD
And my dad still refers to the prog as "AD 2000" no matter how many times I tell him.
Maybe it was Abby Bulmer's dad?
