Help! / photo needed- URGENTLY!!!
23 December, 2003, 02:27:59 PM
It's the pic of Wils, Pete, Mal and Mulcher (hahaha) at the tube station- I really need it today- can somebody point me to it please?  I know it's been posted up here a couple of times- but needles and haystacks and all that...

Cheers-

Yes, I'm afraid so- another year closer to death.

Imagine, if you can, my excitement on lying in bed this morning, listening to the grunting and heaving of our postie as he struggled with what was clearly an A4 packet (I only have an A5 letterbox).  Futurequake, I thought!  It's here at last!

Alas, it was merely junk mail and I cursed Dudley instead- wondering if it might not be a coincidence that my junk mail has quadrupled since our initial clash of mighty egos those many moons ago...

So anyway, what imaginary presents have you all got me then?  There might* even be a prize for the best one...

Matt

*but then again, there might not.

Please excuse my Express reading ways- but how come the miserable munter has it in for Ulrika Jonssen at least once a week in her holier-than-thou collumn?

I suspect that the words bint, jealous, bitter ugly and fat feature quite heavily in this constant battering- anyone else?

I don't even like Ulrika Jonsson- and it still annoys me...

That whole bit in Dredd this week- with the kid's head coming off.  I dunno- it just seemed a bit... much.

I know it's probably a bit silly, but it wouldn't have seemed nearly so bad had it been an adult.  I totally got that it had to be a pretty recognisable wound so that we knew it was the same character later on (and the floating head bit *did* look pretty creepy)- but it was still a bit visually harsh in my book- and I've drawn some disturbing stuff in my time!

Anybody else- or am I just being an old woman this morning?

It's like this- I can go to one or the other.  Being not unlike yer common sheep- I'd like to know what the rest of you are doing.

One or the other, both or neither.  And whether or not you'll be up for a few jars the night before.

Poor old Arnie!  All he wants to do is be Governer of California, but he has to stand up on national TV and pretend to be sorry about groping a few women- just to be in with a half decent chance.

I say the past is the past.  Leave him alone and stop giving him a raw deal...

Off Topic / Sharing a house with Simon Spurrier...
17 July, 2003, 03:23:38 PM
I had the weirdest dream this morning- I was living in a student house with my girlfriend, Simon Spurrier and a couple of other degenerates who had already buggered off, leaving the three of us with all the cleaning to do before the landlord arrived to give us our deposit back.

Admittedly, most of the mess was mine, and seemed to consist largely of Star Wars toys, comics and general rubbish that really ought to have been in a bin in the first place.  Although Sara (long suffering g/f) was used to all this, Simon was getting increasingly annoyed at my slovenliness (is that a word?) and my many distractions (including finding a half eaten Twix in my back pocket) and eventually stormed out- driving off in what looked like a Ford Anglia.

I felt pretty bad about the fact that Bruce Banner was coming to shoot him (don't ask), so chased him in my own car to warn him.  For some reason, chasing him bumper to bumper though twisting country lanes, while flashing my lights at him didn't particularly make him feel like stopping, so I gave up and went for plan B instead.

Plan B basically involved parking my car across the lane and waiting for the inevitable three car pile up as people came around the corner.  Obviously, one of these motorists was *bound* to be Bruce Banner...

I don't think we got our deposit back.

Less cheese before bedtime, I reckon...

Help! / What colour eyes does Devlin Waugh have?
13 June, 2003, 08:57:25 PM
While we're at it- what colour's his hair supposed to be?  And does he actually have vampire teeth that are on show?

Please forgive my ignorance- but I've never actually read any of them!

Off Topic / My Dad's dumber than your Dad...

I mean, how hard can this be?

I live in Britain, but my agent is based in Canada and sources work worldwide.  Now if my agent offers me a job from a company based in Canada, it's priced up in Canadian dollars (CAD).  If it's from the U.S., it's priced up in U.S. dollars (USD)- and if it's from Britain, pounds sterling (GBP).  With me so far?

When I bill the agent for the work, it's always in the currency of the country that the work has been sourced from.  Once the agent has collected the money, it's converted to pounds sterling (unless the work originated in Britain and then I just get whatever it was originally worth- obviously) and I get a check (hurrah!).

Now for those of you who don't know, the exchange rate for GBP and CAD is about half (two Canadian dollars for every pound) and for the sake of making things a bit less confusing- I'm only going to be referring to pounds and Canadian dollars from this point on.

By and large, a job sourced in Britain that's worth ?1000 would probably be worth $1000 if originally sourced in Canada.

So anyway- I just got off the phone to my Dad, almost incredulous at the fact I could have sprung from the loins of anyone so stupid.

I happened to mention in passing that I was doing a job for a place in Canada and that they were paying (for the sake of simplicity) $1000, which is only worth about ?500 to me after the currency conversion.  I then went on to wonder how great it must be to be living in Canada and getting a job from Britain, because the reverse would also be true.  Instead of getting paid $500, after the currency conversion, you'd get $2000- double what the same job would be worth had it been sourced in Canada.

Could I get my dopey Dad to see what I was talking about?

Could I f-

What the Hell is going on there today?!?  Do people like Mr.ExtremeOne really exist outside of badly written, caricatured stereotypes?

I enjoy a good rant about stuff as much as the next guy- but this was just...

I dunno.  Words fail me.  I followed the link and couldn't believe what I was reading.  I can't even think of a reply- I wouldn't know where to begin.  I just don't think my powers of rant are up to the task.  It certainly puts the likes of Mongo into perspective, that's for sure.

Do I just live a sheltered life and not encounter twats of this calibre in day-to-day life, or what?

Matt

Yeah?  Well I feel cheated.  Back in the seventies (when I was a mere young pup), I was promised all sorts of technological advancements.

Where's my f*cking rocket belt?  Food pills?  We don't even have a "Moonbase Alpha"- never mind a working death ray laser pistol.

We've all been conned...

Off Topic / CD Writers and their stinky evil...
04 December, 2002, 09:04:09 PM
OK troops- I'm attempting to make a few compilation music CDs- purely for home use of course- and have a nice new 48 speed writer.  Can anybody tell me why the end cocking result is always the same- a copy that jumps?!?

Somebody suggested copying at a slower speed, but I'm getting the same problems with jumping and wotnot at 16 speed as I do at 48.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm almost annoyed.
