Title: "I da Arrttt!"
Post by: Quirkafleeg on 11 May, 2003, 07:45:04 PM
Currently reading a book about the conversion of the Bankside Power Station in the Tate Modern Art Gallery (as you do) and it mentions in passing that parts of the Judge Dredd movie were shot there back when it was semi-derelict.

Anybody got any further details?

Blimey, that's a strange one.

It's difficult to think of anything in the Dredd movie that couldn't have been done more easily on a studio-built set.

The stupid 'flame tunnel' Dredd and Fergie ran along. maybe?  It was the most industrial-looking thing in the film.

The interiors or exteriors in the opening Block War scene?

I reckon, if you'll forgive me GR, that it might be the Angel Gang hideout. But I'm just guessing too.

Embarrassed as I may be to admit I know a bit about the Dredd movie, I can tell you that it was the interior sequences of Aspen prison. Now excuse me while I hang my fan-boy head in shame.

Don't be ashamed, you are among friends here.

I'm sure we all carry some sad fanboy fact in our heads that would result in a good kicking from normal people if ever revealed.

The exterior Cursed Earth scenes were filmed in Iceland (the country, not the frozen food outlet), and film of the angel gang at Shepperton was matched to the footage.

The interior Angel Gang and flame tunnel shots were filmed at Shepperton studios. Oh my eternal shame!

You can stop at any time now...

I knew the Iceland bit... maybe they would have been better filmed in the shop.

Hey! Where did the rest of my post go?
Title: Re: Re:

And why has it gone bold?
Title: Re: Re:

He! I guess it thinks it's James T. Kirk.

That's weird, It looks okay now.

Anyway, I was just saying how I should be extremely ashamed of myself considering I dislike the Dredd film. Think of all the useful information I could hold in my head instead of that.

Nope it's still bold and what's worse is I'm starting to look like a certain banned boarder who's famous for rambling on about Dredd movies and replying in multiple fashion to his own posts.

Ah thanks for the info Karne... now that's means I'll have to watch the damn thing again at some point to see if I can spot the building...

Perhaps they can do a scene in the new movie in the new art gallery.

"I am da Lowry!"  I thang you...

Karne, whatever happened to the clones? Rico shouts release the clones and nothing happens.

"Send in the clones!"

Judi Dench appears with flaking skin and stumbling gait ..... just a normal day then!

The clones are there but they are incredibly crap and should never have been put in.

What I don't get is y rico looked different thatn dredd. If they are clones don't they all look the same.

Nope thats been disproved now, there was a cat who was cloned and the clone was a totally different mismatch of colours and totally different temprement etc.
But in humans I would have expected them to look the same to some degree. Then again I think the films goes off from the idea in the real story (and more like Twins) when they say the clones were created from the mixture of the best judges dna. I could be wrong, been a while since I saw it.

It's all in the making of Dredd book gary, all the street stuff was actually a massive outdoor set.  Why, i dunno.

"All the street stuff was actually a massive outdoor set."

Yes. Did you see the enormous diagonal pipe that appears in every street scene? They re-used the same set, dressed it up a bit & shot from different angles to make it look like a different location...

"whatever happened to the clones? Rico shouts release the clones and nothing happens."

Bad editing, along with a number of cuts made in order to gain a more audience friendly certificate (some of these were reinstated when the cuts failed to make a difference) made the end result somewhat disjointed and confusing.
