Love seeing Wil(iam)* Simpson's name in the credits...

*He was Will Simpson when he appeared in 2000AD, so I never get used to calling him William now...

Hey there, Squaxx!

Got a question for the wise hive.

Sugar is illegal in the big Meg, so what 'is' used? I'd hate to have to use 'Aspartame' when there must be a much more MC-1 term out there. But I can't remember it for the life of me.

Help?

Good question (and one I don't have an answer to).  If you don't get an answer, I'd invent something - probably playing on the words 'synthi', 'sweet' and/or 'sugar'.  Or 'psuedo' - would 'psuegar' be too difficult to decipher without explanation?

Are there any forum members who admin the 2000ADopedia or even Barney? I only ask as the wiki page is all well and good but the Hachette Transformers collection's page was deleted and so tfwiki is continuing that table. I'd feel better if this information was saved for fans in another place.
I'm an admin on 2000ADopedia and I think there's somebody from Barney who pops their head in here every now and then.  Not sure what place Transformers would have on either database though?
No, I'm happy that TFWIKI has picked up the TF:G1 wikipedia data. I mean the 2000AD Collection's data. That isn't listed on either of those sites and there is a risk of the wikipedia page disappearing as happened to TF.

Right, gotcha - do you want to add it to the 2000ADopedia?  Anybody can edit it (Barney you have to have moderator access, or something).

p.s. if you do copy directly from wikipedia I believe wikia/fandom has some policy about making it clear, even though* both are creative commons material.

QuoteShe's a great addition to the cast, and I can't wait to see more of her.

You've had the shower scene already!

 Well done, sir!

You know what they say about double entendres - when you see one coming along you have to bend over backwards to slip one in ;-)

Well Stront volume V was lovely stuff. The three post-Rage stories do a good job of pointing the strip's way forward without Wulf - a solo tale, a Middenface support tale, and (of course) a Durham tale.

A Durham Red tale?  The first Durham Red tale!

QuoteThe only story I hadn't read before was Bitch. The oft-repeated complaint is that the story is far too long, but honestly, read in one sitting (rather than drip-fed over a torturous 25 weeks) I only felt it lag once, near the end.

Is it oft-repeated?  Yours was the first time I've read of that complaint!

As for the episode, it was as expected - thoroughly entertaining nonsense.

The show's days as a genuinely excellent drama series are so far behind it at this point I think the best outcome is that they deliver some spectacle and don't completely screw up the landing.

It's certainly lost something since they had to diverge from GRRM's writing.  Having said that, it's also gained something with the increase in budget and scope since those far-off days when each episode had to make do with a budget of just $5,000,000...  Seriously though - it's a classic three-act structure, with set-up/exposition, conflict/rising action and climax/resolution.

That tag-line matches Betteridge's Law of Headlines, to whit:

Trailer got me very buzzed, in a way that the trailers for the last bunch didn't. I've loved the films, but for some reason the trailers just didn't spark the excitement until this one! Wasn't quite prepared for how happy I'd be to see Lando (let out a little gasp) and to see Leia again (let out a larger gasp).

Should be fantastic, they haven't really put a foot wrong for me yet with these episodes (although Rogue One is still my favourite of the Disney crop).

The Jedi Fallen Order game trailer that also released at the weekend was great too, so hyped for that as well!

Also a trailer for The Mandalorian was shown (the trailer is not on general release, sadly, so only those at Celebration got to see it).  There have been more pictures from the series released though.  Plus we now know when it'll be set - some time between VI and VII.

p.p.s. I would suggest spoiler tags are used for a day or two after an episode airs in the UK to reflect modern viewing habits, particularly on major revelations and plots developments.

The first episode was aired at 9 EST (which I think was 20:00 EDT and definitely was 02:00 this morning).  For more daylight-minded people in GMT/BST I believe UK broadcasters are showing it again at a 21:00 this evening.

Let the speculation commence!

p.s. the producers put together a playlist of music which (they say) holds some secrets about how the series is going to go - I'll try to dig out a link later.

One thing that does strike me about Scarlet Traces - admittedly having only read the last second part of the last chapter (progs 2023-2034) - is that, despite striking images like the one on this week's cover, there seems to be a distinct lack of war-waging Martian tripods.

Surely that's because the invasion force hasn't arrived yet?

Crikey- he really did exactly that.

Gobsmacked...

I'm sure a few others here are old enough to have seen Tommy Cooper go a similar way.
