When I found out there wasn't a Strontium Dog story in the prog*, I'll admit I mentally questioned Johnny being on the front cover. (I kind of like my covers to have something to do with the contents, unless it's a big 'loads of characters included' crowd scene.)

I guess the thing about it is, it is the 40th Anniversary special and I think it is fair to say Strontium Dog is 2000AD's 2nd best well know strip, so given that I think it is perfectly reasonable for him to be on the cover. And Carlos is probably 2000AD's best loved artist and these are "his" two main 2000AD characters...so of course they are going to feature on the cover...I would have thought...

Reasonable sure. You make a good point. I was just expressing a personal preference e that I prefer characters on the cover to be in that prog.

Well turns out Johnny Alpha was, anyway, (albeit another strip) so it worked out anyway.

If he wasn't, it still wouldn't have been a big deal. It's a smashing picture!

Can't find this anywhere in Leeds and it's sold out in the 2000 AD shop too.

Hope I haven't missed out. Anyone know of a way to get hold of one?

Both covers back in stock in the 2000AD online store!  :)

I'll try to remember next time I go to my local comic shop (which does mail order).

I asked them and they've sold out - sorry!

Awesome !, thank you so much for the heads up.
Didn't have the funds to pre-order and totally forgot about the 40th Special.
Earlier this week, sold out and scalpers asking 13-15 squid + postage on EvilPay.
Ordered A + B and Thrill Power Overload as postage to OZ was so cheap.  :D

Great stuff all round.  The perfect special, in fact - I haven't enjoyed a prog this much since the millennium prog and its 2001 follow-up (not quite sure what to call them, now there's a real prog 2001 and 2002).  I loved the TMO interludes too. And I only read the Tharg intro after I read the strips - the realisation that there was a ruby theme led me to read the whole thing again.

Lauren Beukes got Johnny and Red's characters down perfectly - I'd be delighted to see her do more.  (Also, it's amazing to see the former sausage-party that was the Nerve Centre finally getting some talented female droids in.)

Dante was great, though I wouldn't like to see too many flashback stories.

Sláine - well, not awful, but I really think it's time he retired.  Ro-Busters was enjoyable stuff though.

Zombo, though I never quite got into it before, was excellent - just the right amount of gentle progstalgia piss-taking.

Z.O.M.B.O alone was worth the admission. Lovely little go at Grant Morrison :)

That completely went over my head - was it the homeopathy bit?  I love Morrison, me, but he doesn't half talk some gubbins sometimes.

Both of mine arrived this morning and the issue is a delight from start to finish.
Not much else to say really.
Well worth the wait.  :D

For those who haven't managed to bag a copy yet: it's gone to reprint (with new variant covers, one by Jock)!

jannerboyuk

Just ordered the signed jock variant from fp  :D

Tjm86

Ditto.  Only time I'm tempted by variant covers.   ::)

Mattofthespurs

Ordered here too.
Looks gorgeous.

Fungus

A fantastic issue, the Mills strips were extremely throwaway but the rest, and interludey pages - were perfect. Highlights be8ng Zombo and Dante (which I'd never read. One day).
More entertaining than Prog 2000, well done   :P

O Lucky Stevie!

Carlos cover here in Oz (finally!).

So when's the next 40th anniversary special 'cos Stevie desparately need to kno what happens next in Z.O.M.B.O.
"We'll send all these nasty words to Aunt Jane. Don't you think that would be fun?"

Echidna

Yeah I'd love to see some more Zombo. Z.O.M.B.0 was a hoot, probably the highlight of the prog for me.

I got the 2nd print from the Leicester Forbidden Planet (the Aja cover; the staff didn't seem to know about the Jock exclusive - is it online only?) to go with the Ezquerra version. I'm not normally one of those suckers who buys variant covers but I made an exception for this and Prog 2000. And the 2015 xmas special. And Prog 1335... I guess I am one of those suckers, aren't I?
