Well, that sounds spiffing.  Who told you that?  I could logically see this happening eventually.

This reminds me a little of when we were promised "no more Sinister Dexter... Honest!"

First we got Downlode Tales, and then (shock!) the return of Sin/Dex.

Simon Fraser once said a long time ago on his website:

"We are currently in the early stages of making a Dante epic tentatively titled 'The War'..."

I assume this became Tsar Wars.  Here's the next part of the quote...

"... and after 'The War' there will be no more Dante, ever."

So, maybe due to popularity, Morrison/Fraser extended the life of the character.  Whether this means Dante will run and run and run or will be rounded off later remains to be seen.

Help! / Re: Reaction Figures - get em free!

"If you havn't got all the old ones go to your local More Store or some Poundstretchers and you can get them for a few quid."

Alternatively, send a half decent letter to Input and get em all free.  Well, it works for Kermode, and lately, it's been working for me.

General / Re: Logo A-Go-Go!

I reckon this logo will stick around for a while.   It works bloody well against any piece of art, not crowding it, yet still staying prominent.

...or do the new dredd movies sound a bit too familiar.  The first one (reckoning) looks to be making all the same mistakes as the original Judge Sly did.  The second one could be good, but the Anderson's kid deal could go badly.

P.S.: I know that PsiJudges have more freedom than street judges, but would it extend as far as them being able to have proper lives without the SJS poking in?

i have progs 580-780 or so, 1111-present, best of monthlies 30-80 or thereabouts, about 50 megs, and a few other stuff, and i just stack them up in piles on my shelves.  none of this "cool, dry place in an airtight bag under lock and key in a reinforced steel safe" bollocks.  Then again, my progs are probably rotting.

Suggestions / Re: 2000ad archives
05 January, 2002, 07:40:01 PM
i'm not Professor Art or anyfink, but...

New 2000ad art is scanned from the original art, which is then returned to the artists.  NEW stories are stored in a digital format.  OLD stories are stored as photo negatives in the archives.  When scanned, these photo negatives will give the quality we see in comics today.  If scanned from THE PAGE OF AN OLD PROG, the quality will be noticibly bad.  Original art is drawn at a very large size, and when reduced, it looks nice.  I reckon art scanned from a browning A4 newspaper page from the late seventies to be printed on a brand new magazine quality A4 page would look, well.... bad.

Sorry to rant.  Must dash, my shelf is being weighed down by the sheer volume of 60s Doctor Who stories still in existence...

Suggestions / 2000ad archives

re: scanning for old progs.

i don't think it works that way.  the quality would probably be seriously degraded in the process, and would already need some clean-up work done to it anyway.  (but i'm no expert)

But don't worry, i'm not sure that theres all that much missing from the archives, nothing spectacular.  Just you look at the mess that Doctor Who fans have, and we can think ourselves lucky...

Help! / Re: Book club
04 January, 2002, 07:21:23 PM
I would probably give them a little bit of a go, but it says for UK and Ireland Only, and the Australian ones are smegged.  Nice books, probably, but I'd more likely buy graphic novels.

Flesh Book II is the most likely candidate, yes.  But it would be nice if they put a break in between series and reprinted something else.

QUOTE--------------------------------------------
Oh, and I have to tell you about The Hand. It's written by Gerry Finlay Day (of Rogue Trooper fame - now what happened to him?) and it's about this reporter who loses his arm and gets a new one transplanted on, which used to belong to a mobster... and it makes him DO things... It's quite possibly the daftest thing I've ever read.

Hey, like Carver Hale, with the demon in him.  Except stupider.
