Games / Re: What is gamergate?

Misogyny and sexism wrapped in a veneer of fighting for journalistic ethics, where 'ethics' in fact means 'try to kill any site whose opinions we disagree with, while also ignoring most of the content of articles on said sites anyway'. The Intel thing was especially scary, with that company pulling advertising from Gamasutra, in response to these idiots. Fortunately, advertisers on other sites have just done nothing, after the PR shitstorm Intel found itself in.

And, yeah, Wu is pretty outspoken and has been playing with the whole GG thing, so I'm not surprised she's now a major target. The people making such vile threats at the very least need a knock on the door from the local cops; really, though, this is fine/jail territory.

Mm. I was wondering about Capaldi's longevity in the role, but on the basis of what we've seen, he needs to stay for a while. This is without doubt my favourite run of new-Who, and both he and Coleman have been excellent. I've also noticed a general upswing in scripts and direction, too. It's like cobwebs have been blown away, and everyone's taking full advantage of a kind of fresh start.

That's what I do. A lot of listings put a 'the' on the end anyway, after a comma.

Film Discussion / Re: DAY OF DREDD: 1st October 2014

Yep. Hurrah for the Kingsleys really. While it's pretty obvious they didn't buy 2000 AD purely out of the goodness of their hearts (it was a potential goldmine of IP), it's clear that they have plenty of love for the comic they now own. Without them it's pretty obvious we wouldn't be here today (and we wouldn't have had one proper Dredd movie, let alone the slim possibility of a second).

Good to see the Dredd love is strong. I doubt it'll make much difference sequel-wise, but it showcases a clear love for the property that wasn't evident after the short theatrical run. Even if you sense another Serenity, at least we have decent comic books to follow up Dredd (both in terms of the Meg's de-facto Dredd strips and the 'standard' Judge Dredd), unlike the dreck that Firefly/Serenity became under Zack Whedon and chums. Dredd also now has a hugely improved reputation as a whole, rather than people mostly recognising it as a crappy Stallone film.

Even the worst-case scenario is pretty good, really.

So subscribers aren't getting their copies as the books hit the newsstands? Rather suggests signing up's a pointless endeavour.

The strip could be called Judge Dredds.
#7853
Yeah. It's funny looking at the current strip. I can't recall the exact figure, but it says ~50k citizens in that block. Even if you say that's atypical and the usual is closer to half that, that means 25k citizens in packed blocks (because they were safe), which results in a couple of thousand city-blocks throughout the entirety of Mega-City One, which remains massive. Too often, it looks like little has changed in the strip—business as usual.

Depends on which incarnation of the Doctor, surely? Some of them would have gone all-out to save everyone, all of the time. Capaldoctor doesn't seem to care that much.

I'm not sure this Doctor gives much of a shit. He has his 'missions', but has already shown that he's not too fussed when people are killed off.

I liked one response to the question of why The Doctor 'allows' these things to get so convoluted: he likes adventure. He doesn't want to be bored.

Well, my mind went through a process here.

"Strontium Dog Fan Film"

Yeah, that's going to be a bit crap and impossible to pull off.

"By the people who did Judge Minty"

Oh, in that case! *taps desk impatiently*

General / Re: Forthcoming Thrills!

I still think omitting America was an error—the one big mis-step of the CFs—and I wonder how much it had to do with impacting on trade sales elsewhere. Given that follow-ups were under the Dredd banner, America was essentially a Judge Dredd tale, and the story had such an impact on the strip, its lack of inclusion is a huge shame. (Didn't that love story one with the garden also get omitted, yet the sequel show up in the CFs?)

I think I saw somewhere in this thread that they're only trialing them in a couple of areas at the moment.  Leciestershire's one I'm guessing (as that's where I got mine) and I think round Southampton (?) may be the other.
Yeah, those were the locations I recall. I was just wondering if they might have spread a bit. I guess not.

I never saw any of these anywhere I've been. Where have people been finding them?
