Help! / Nero 7 Help!
10 January, 2006, 01:27:11 PM
Sorry about this folks but this is quite urgent for me and I know how great/techie you lot are!

I've just got Nero 7 and have spent AGES making a compillation disk of lots of films that my pupils at school have made.

Everything seems to work ok fine on the computer but when I put the finished disk into my DVD player the menu comes up but won't let me play it - grrr! If I press the 'PCB' botton on my remote it actually will let me play the damn thing but I want to give this away to people so need it to be as hassle free as possible!

I've used other DVD making software in the past without any problems on my DVD player, so what am I doing wrong in Nero?

Please help!

Suggestions / Too cool to kill...
08 January, 2006, 08:10:01 PM
Okay, so at the moment I'm addicted to Prince of Persia 3 on my PC. The lead character is incredibly cool, swashbuckling around, leaping from rooftop to rooftop, swordfighting, somersaulting and flipping on poles and even sliding down walls using his dagger in a curtain, pirate stylee.

He has longish black hair and a little goatee and is presently arguing with another consciousness within himself. It is at this point that I have decided that this is the perfect Nikolai Dante game (except for the setting obviously!) and has made the game all the cooler!

So there we go folks, until the Rogue Trooper game is with us, there's a cool Nikolai Dante game to whet our appetites! When Rogue is out, perhaps Rebellion might like to blatently rip off the PoP series and give us an exceptionally cool Dante game!

Film & TV / Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
19 November, 2005, 05:40:01 PM
Went to see this last night and came away pretty happy. I'm not a huge Potter fan so I went without high hopes or expecations.

I found the film to be quite bitty (not a reference to Little Britain there) and pretty slow to start. It looked great most of the time but, for most of the film, didn't really match the dark tone of Askaban which is something I was hoping for.

The characters were fun, particularly Ron, with lots of the laughs coming from the arkwardness of the hormone packed teenagers (who lets face it, are beginning to look in their early twenties now!) around member of the opposite sex.

According to Mrs Pete, lots and lots of stuff was cut from the book, most noticably for me was in the first task of the Tri-Wizard tornament. The four entrants each have to fight a dragon and we are simply told over a PA system that three of them have beaten their dragons. I would have like to have seen a bit of this, even in a montage or something!

In all though, I enjoyed it and look forward to seeing how the series ends up. Sorry this 'review' is a bit vague but I don't want blab any spoilers (unlike Mrs Pete told me the fucking end on Thursday night, grrr!)

Help! / Stop the Halloween Bloodshed...
02 November, 2005, 02:10:09 AM
...in our house please!

The annual Halloween carving competition between me, Mrs Pete and Mini Pete has been left undecided as we can't decide who's is best. Could a few of you please judge which is the greatest from our sorry efforts below - before it comes to blows here (and I don't mean blowing the candles out!)

Thanks in advance,

Off Topic / Quake 4, while we wait for Rogue...
25 October, 2005, 03:51:53 PM
Cor, I bought Quake 4 yesterday and it's blumping lovely! It's got jaw dropping graphics in a nice, 2000ad-esque future war setting complete with big stompy robots, monstorous tanks and shocks and gore aplenty!

Minor spoiler - I was turned into a Strogg baddie yesterday which meant that I was strapped to a conveyor belt while all manner of saws and probes hacked and stabbed me. It was bloody horrible - just like going through RESYK while alive, now I know how Hershey felt!

So, while we're waiting for the Rogue Trooper game (which now has a lot to live up to!), give Quake 4 a blast if you can!

Off Topic / Yikes! - Very scary F.E.A.R. demo is out!
07 August, 2005, 03:32:29 AM
The single player demo for the shit-your-pants-a-thon PC game FEAR is available to download. I've just played it and had two jump out of my skin moments!

It's really cool and reminds me of when I played the very first Half-Life demo all those years ago...

There's a downloady link below.

Film & TV / Madagascar
25 July, 2005, 05:24:43 PM
I saw this last night and, despite the odd chuckle (was there a Wickerman reference in there?), I found it very, very ordinary.

It was like many of the computer animated cartoons that are coming out now - it just felt like lazy and completely formulaic Hollywood to me. Wizzo graphics and big egotistical 'stars' lending their voices isn't enough. For me, it didn't have any of the charm of Shrek or Toy Story.

So, I didn't hate it but it was just a bit... meh.

Off Topic / Dr Who Cookery
14 April, 2005, 04:36:35 AM
Please help! Me and my wonderful girlfriend work in a special school and the topic in my girlfriend's department this term is Dr Who. She has been put in charge of a cookery group which has to follow this theme.

Neither of us are Who fans (sorry folks! Though I have to say the new series is pretty nifty!) and all I can think of are jelly babies, cool Darlek biscuits with smarties on them and gingerbread cybermen. Can you lot give her some better ideas?

Thanks a million!

Help! / Converting Mpegs to movs?
20 March, 2005, 11:47:15 PM
Hi folks, sorry to bother you.

I want, (sorry need!), to convert some mpegs and avi's to quicktime movie files. Is there any shareware that's free (and easy) that I can use?

As a way of saying thanks, check out the link below to get to a seriously frustrating yet addictive riddle site.

Help! / AT-AT needed.
23 February, 2005, 01:26:12 PM
It's my little boy's birthday next week and I would LOVE to get him one of those AT-AT toys I had as a kid (the boy has taste and Empire is his fave film!)

I got into a huge bidding war on one in decent condition on ebay yesterday and missed out in the last minute and have since trawled the net trying to find vintage Star Wars toys stockists in the UK that have any. Does anyone know a reliable place where I can find one (that won't cost a gazillion quid?)

Thanks everyone,

Pete.

Help! / I need a cartoon Dubya!
12 January, 2005, 04:08:55 PM
I need a characature of George W Bush and amazingly I can't find a decent one after about three quarters of an hour searching on Google! Has anyone got a decent cartoon they'd post or email me?

Thanks a bazillion,

Pete.

Help! / Macromedia Director help!
03 January, 2005, 10:32:19 PM
Sorry to bother you folks but I'm desperate!

My bro and I are doing an interactive book (I've wrote it, he is doing the animations) but unfortunately (for me!) he's done the animations in director and the file sizes are proving to be astronomical due to the huge resolutions he's used for his drawings.

Can anyone tell me how to convert his director movies into something smaller please or point me to a newsgroup type thingy where someone can help?

Sorry to be a pain and happy new year!

Help! / Devlin Waugh GN!
07 November, 2004, 10:29:01 PM
Were the f**k can I but the new Devlin GN online. I was SO happy when I found out we were getting a shitload of 2000ad graphic novels but am getting increasingly pissed off by their lack of availability!

Rant over! Can anyone help?

Pete.

General / Giving my collection away...
27 October, 2004, 12:14:09 AM
I'm moving in with my lovely lady this week and need to get rid (sniff!) of my 2000ads and some other comicy stuff. They're only the the more recent issues (about the last six years worth) and are in various conditions but there'll be some graphic novels and other goodies in the mix. Anyone who wants to take them off my hands and can get up to Washington (in the North East of England) BEFORE FRIDAY please email me off list and we'll sort something out.

First come first served I'm afraid!

Help! / Dredd trading cards NEEDED!
14 September, 2004, 11:37:54 AM
I was cleaning out today when I came across my treasured old Judge Dredd trading card sets. I loved reverting to my childhhood when these were out (it was like collecting Return of the Jedi stickers all over again!) and look forward to the new set coming this year.

Anyway, I didn't realise this but I am missing two of the chase cards. They are:

Judge Dredd: Legends - Number 13 Sagbelly by McMahon.
Judge Dredd: Movie - Video game 9 Zed.

Completest that I am, I'm going out of my tiny mind here! Has anyone got any spares they'd like to sell, also if anyone has got the official book to keep them in I'd love to buy that too!

Thanks folks,
