Whoopie & Wow

Was that the merger where they gave free cover gifts of faces printed on cardboard, but with a little chain where the nose should be so you could 'finish' the drawing by shaping all sorts of ridiculous schnozzes?  Or was that the merger with School Fun?

I think what you're really thinking of is the merger of Whoopee with 2000AD, where Sam Slade's pilot, Captain Kidd, is hit by a time reef and reverts to a baby - Sweeny Toddler.  And the Dead Man turns out to be Hit Kid.  And the Slimms get belliwheels, and Meltdown Man turns out to be related to Fusspot....

2000AD and Starlord.

That's a great-looking cover.  I particularly like the reflections, of both the Sov Judges and particularly Dredd & co.

Great piece by David Roach on assembling the Bolland Apex Edition:
https://www.tcj.com/creating-the-brian-bolland-apex-edition-a-how-to-guide-for-the-rash-and-enthusiastic/

that's a great article.  It made me interested in getting a copy, but it doesn't seem to be available on the webshop anymore.  Ah well, you snooze you lose.

News / Re: Hiya Toys Judge Dredd range?

I know I'm just moaning but Hiya are just covering ground 3A did.  And now they've got Death, Fear and Mortis announced, are they going to do Judge Fire?  No, they're going to do Death, Fear and Mortis in a bigger scale.  I'll be very interested to see their Lawmaster, but I'll be even more excited if the line gets to some characters we haven't seen before.

Speaking of "Judge Fear's Big Day Out", I love the Dredd image they've picked for the cover, but one thing has always bothered me about it:

Looking at the sides of Dredd's helmet, you can see that the left hand side - the side closest to us, finishes up roughly in line with his mouth.  Dredd's jaw and some of his cheek are visible.  Looking at the other side of the picture, the right hand side of his helmet extends down past his chin.  Even given our POV and that Dredd may have his head tilted somewhat, there's no way he could cock his head enough that the bottom edge of his helmet should be visible below his chin line.

There's a couple of fonts they're consistently using for the novels (titles/authors).  You can see one example there in the "John Ware" on the Apoc War Dossier.  See also the "Judges" line, "Judge Fear's Big Day Out" and the "Fit for Duty?" strapline on Meg 436, etc.

One or two niggles aside, I really like these fonts.

General / Re: Specials or Regen Progs 2022
« on: 14 February, 2022, 01:55:16 PM »
There are two collected Regene trades scheduled for 2022.  I don't know how many Regene progs are covered by a collection but the page count on the trades is:

1 - 128 pages
2 - 144
3 - 112
4 - 112

If we know how many Regene progs are covered by volumes 1 & 2, and how much material has come out in prog format but not yet been collected, it may give something of an indication.  Though I suppose Tharg is not so big a chump as to publish material in a collection that he's only just put out weeks earlier in a prog.

General / Re: The Strontium Dog is Judge Dredd's future topic

I vaguely remember a Dredd story about a Brit-Cit agent (based on a young Ipcress File type Michael Caine, - or perhaps Alec Guinness Smiley?) trying to find out some details in MC1 in order to avoid it happening in the future - at least in this dimension.  Didn't that imply there were different timelines and it wasn't necessarily something that happens in the future of Dredd's version of the world?

Department K: Interdimensional Investigators - Paperback, 80 pages, 8th November 2022

Tech Whizz Cadet Afua is the newest intern at Mega-City One's Department K. A team made up of geeks, robots and misfits, their job is to protect our dimension at all costs!
