Yes I'm sure Goldman Sachs Bankers tell themselves that story when their shafting their 'Muppet clients.' Their not going to announce anything about the Movie. It will be Comic related to do with KAPOW or some such thing. Maybe Colin Wilson's coming back?

Woah there! People are getting a bit carried away with wild speculation, and I'm just reminding them that the last time Molcher teased an 'exciting' announcement it was a bit tongue in cheek and turned out to be something quite trivial.

I'm hardly being miserable, and look forward to the announcement, whatever it is. Either of the things I guessed at would be great news for 2000ad.

QuoteI reckon it's either an announcment about a new film project or an imminent Dredd trailer.

If that were the case, wouldn't this thread be called 'Dredd Movie News' or 'Dredd News' rather than '2000ad News'?

Also, I think it would probably be the movie producers or distributors making the announcement rather than Rebellion themselves.

I would love to hear an announcement about the film, but I imagine this will be something to do with the comic side of the business.

You should go electric.  Although it does somewhat constrain bathtime fun.

As for the teaser - if it is related to the movie, announcing some forthcoming news in a movie thread would give too much away, I guess.  My money's on a Space Spinner with a forthcoming Prog.

I'd quite like that - and my boys would love it.

Please?

It's probably a pack of Hubba Bubba, under health and safety giving away a space spinner would be deemed to much of a hazard potential.

Yeah, I don't think a Dredd trailer is likely but it's the most exciting news that most of us can imagine at the moment.

Maybe a new Dredd title is being launched to cash in on the new film (also unlikely).

Still reckon it's another film announcement.

ISTR that there have been hints that there are three 2000ad properties currently in various stages of movie production. Taking the perpetually-stranded-in-development-hell Button Man out of the equation (apparently that is not one of the three), we know that Dredd is in the can and Rogue Trooper is at the script stage...

Could it be we're getting confirmation of what the third is?

If there is a Strontium Dog film in the works (and this is speculating about a speculation so I've donned my speculating underpants), can everyone please prepare themselves, right now, for a drastically different version from the strip?

Say goodbye to aliens, time travel, space travel, Gronks, yellow body armour and big bulky headgear because I feel confident in guaranteeing that none of those things will make it into a film adaptation.

I imagine it would be a pared down 'gritty' (that word again) version, set on Earth and focusing on the 'mutant as under class' angle along with Johnny's bounty hunting.

Sorry for the wild and unfounded speculation, just trying to minimise disappointment and associated whinging at a later date.

Fine but it would be A Big Deal and help get in a lot more readers. Not every important announcement is aimed at the hardcore fans.

Avatar have had a digital announcement in the pipeline for a while:
www.bleedingcool.com/forums/digital-comics-webcomics-related-devices/47810-avatar-digital-comics.html

My guess is that comiXology and similar services have gone after the Big Two hard (and presumably the Big Five or Six - as they have a lot of licensed comics that would do well digitally), with lots of sweet deals and have been making sure they have the back catalogues available and everything is running properly before talking to smaller publishers. I assume the next year or so will see a lot more of the smaller publishers appear on the major digital comics sites and I'd hope 2000AD would be one of them.

However, would that announcement be so big it'd require its own teaser announcement? I am unsure. We haven't had one before so it'd surely be a "break the Internet" kind of news, so I might swing my vote back behind Zenith - Grant got a nice interview in the Megazine about his book along with Frank Quitely about their Flex Mentallo release (that I Must Own), so could that be the first sign that everyone is now on the same page and we are just waiting for them to cross the "t"s and dot the "i"s? It does feel 'right' to me - my speculation trousers are humming like a contented cat. Oh wait, no, that is something else...

Oh yeah, it would be cool for the comic but after all this speculation about exciting things, it would be like opening a present that you think will be a cool toy and then it's just some socks.

Plus, it's so far only been teased to the fans who follow the comic on Twitter and Facebook so I'd expect this to be of interest to us geeks.
Title: Re: 2000 AD news ...

Well, it would certainly be good for - I don't have the space for back issues and having a digital archive on tap would be great, and trades for anything I fancy a hard copy of.

Zenith rights being sorted would be top as well.

A Stront or Rogue movie, even better.

You, sir, must get your speculating trousers at Saville Row!! I could imagine an outbreak of double (or triple) incontinence at that news, unfortunately, it seems highly unlikely. Slightly more likley would be Leah Moore and John Reppion scrpting the return of halo Jones to Alan Moore's plots (as they did in Albion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albion_(comics))) with Ian Gibson making a triumphant return on art duties. However, I don't think I'd bet any money on it, even though the announcement of a Moore/Reppion TftBM makes it a teensy bit more likely.

Whatever the news its jolly welcome. It will serve to lift us out of the Dredd movie limbo we are currently in.

Unless the news is headlined "Molch-R distracts 2000AD fans from Dredd movie speculation."
