Messages - judgefloyd

We (son and I) thought the penultimate episode was a bit too rushed, like they had a lot to get through, and the last episode was total genius.  Fingers crossed for Season 3.  I never get these things right, but my guesses are:

- Noir's big reveal turns out to be like it was in the comic
- That
peanut allergy thing
will be important in S3
- More head-exploding scenes are on their way (feel I'm on solid ground with this one)

Thanks again.  I really enjoyed Cabalistics.  Did that finish up?

Books & Comics / Re: Whats everyone reading?
04 October, 2020, 08:55:18 AM
Roight now, oim reading:

- The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu - has probably been mentioned elsewhere here. It's a really interesting, ambitious hard-science sci fi book. The writing has dorky moments, but is overall good and it's always genuinely thought-provoking.  Here's a (somewhat spoilerish) review https://www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v40/n03/nick-richardson/even-what-doesn-t-happen-is-epic

- The Listerdale Mystery, a book of Agatha Christie short stories from 1934.  Two stories in, one twee and predictable, one dead good and scary.

Gidday, gidday, and thanks again.
Buttonman's chart there is a thing of beauty.  I'm not writing in because I haven't been reading the progs for a bit, so my letters would have to be general in nature  (Dear Tharg, how do? It's hot here today...).
Nice to see some names I remember here.

Hey thank you very much everyone - very interesting and informative!
I remember Zombo being fun when it kicked off, also wondered if it could keep being fun for very long.
The first Scarlet Traces was total genius, would love to see some more
Good to see Abnett is his usual hyperactive self and Rennie is still Rennieing

Will check all this out

Film & TV / Re: Last movie watched...

The Usual Suspects is the last movie I've seen.  Stands the test of time very well, I thought.  I'd forgotten the exact denoument, so the bit where
something very clever revealed all to someone
came as an interesting surprise.  Gabriel Byrne was brilliant.

Good point! Justice League is a much better comparison, and they've got the talks-to-fish guy.  On the other hand, more of my audience would have heard of the Avengers.  The review is far from perfect - should have run it past this board.
I didn't find the dissimilarities with the comic distracting in S1, and was pleased by how well they went - if  the comic was a frame-by-frame reproduction of S1, it'd still be a very good Ennis comic.  That said, I'm totally with you on S2 - Trump parallels are very obvious and all up I'm loving it too.

General / Think a decade younger and tell me....

I've been away for yonks, ie just over a decade.
Last time I was around, Dredd had some promising young clones coming along, having their own personality, teasing us about would one of them take over from him...
Stickleback was, I think, still around

I can't remember much else.  The progs were mostly awesome.  Can anyone tell me any personal highlights since then? With Dredd? With other stories?

Dredd is always good and The Pit is completely brilliant, can vouch for that.

IF YOU KNOW DREDD A BIT...
The Pit (sector house procedural),

and - where are my manners? - thanks for the welcome backs!

I don't think I'm anyone's arch nemesis!  Good to hear the progs are still good - I never doubted that for a moment.
Since last being here, I've become bionic, via a metal heart valve drama, putting me in a bit of a bucket list mood.  So I've been to the UK twice and visited the Isle of Man to speak Manx, and got to meet someone from this board IRL (Gary W in Lincoln)
I'm watching The Boys with my son now, which is pretty 2000 AD adjacent.

Are you Buttonman's arch nemesis?

Welcome back, hope you have fun. Have you dropped of the Prog and Meg completely as there's so much great stuff but as Bolt says best place to start to current Prog, or 2200 as a nice jump on and the Meg with 424 as also a jump on for its 30th maybe?

(Schwarzeneggar voice) Thanks for the tip!
(Floyd voice) good to see you again Bolt!

Hi,

Floyd here.  I used to practically live on this message board, but haven't checked back in since, I dunno, 2009 or thereabouts.
Dunno where to start really, but, ummm, hullo.  What's good with Dredd and 2000 AD stuff in general?
