Welcome to the board / Re: Fastyr Mie!

Thanks Emperor, I'm off and icon-ing!
I should have a look at the progs again sometime.  All this prog-selling is making me quite nostalgic.  When I last looked, I thought things were on a bit of a high - Dredd had clones, Dante had just lost the weapons crest, there was an occasional Strontium Dogs, which was a real treat and, ummm, well I can't remember much else but I think all was good.  These days the only comics I read are Doonesbury and Frew's The Phantom, some of which are written by David Bishop.

I look uncannily like a bald 49 year old.  I used to look like Robin Williams, then, as my hair receded, like Tom Hanks.  Now, I think, I just look like me.

Holy crap guys, I just checked this out, and Fonky was right! There was a politician named Hitler (in the 60s or something, I forget) and he DID kill loads of people! They should teach this in schools or something, people need to know!

Who knew Australia could produce such an evil man....

Hilter was probably from New Zealand, but he moved to Australia early in his career......

meanwhile, can someone with more web-searching skills than me please find this Graiunidad review and put it here? It was quite interesting.

yours hoping that Hawthorn will do something truly theological this season,

Floyd

thanks Pete and Tordelback, I remember you!  Cheers.
I used to keep count of my letters but haven't done so for ages, so perhaps that makes me a recovering complete nerd.  Or maybe just a nerd whose nerdiness has moved on.

All good points.  The review  (which I still wish I could find) said that 'As If' went into the creative side of fandom - that it was a more creative approach to cultural material than just consuming it.
I remember an Onion article titled something like 'Sports nerd looks down on Star Wars nerd', making the point a few other people made about sports nerdiness.  I think it's seen as somehow active because the sports people themselves are active, although a lot of the fans aren't.  The former fact seems to make up for the latter in some mysterious way.
Certainly it's possible to like football and comics.  I love football, me, like a lot of Melbourne people.

Just read an interesting review in the Guardian's international edition, of a book called 'As if'.  It's nothing to do with whatsername from Clueless , but rather is about the history of fandom, starting with Sherlock Holmes enthusiasts and HP Lovecraft buffs.  Part way through the review, the writer observes that many people would tell the fans to 'get a life' and comments 'they have a life' and that it's a more creative one than most people.
  Anyone seen it?

greetings latest Aceface!

I'm ashamed to say I don't know Day of Chaos, but, yes, back issues are always worth getting.  Sin and Dex made me chuckle too.  I remember the guy who was so dumb he thought irony was Reagan's biography.

cheers

- no idea where I stand in the letter writing ranks

oh and hurry up and buy all my old progs

cheers

Welcome to the board / Fastyr Mie!

Hi there.  Floyd here.  Don't know if anyone remembers me, but I used to pretty much live on this board up until about four years ago.  I still think the progs are awesome, but don't read them as often as I used to.  Progs aside, I teach English to migrants, study aesthetics, learn Manx, keep fit, watch a bit of Dr Who and read a lot.  I actually tried out a Who board, but it wasn't the same (too determinedly civil).
So what's up?  Did Dredd get replaced by Rico?  Are there any good new stories going?  How are things on the board these days?

cheers,

Floyd

Hi there,

It's my first time on this board in,ooh, must be four years.   Gidday.   Anyway, I'm selling my 2000AD collection, which is currently taking up most of a wall in my front room.  In general, the collection includes:

Everything from about 1997 to 2009ish
A fair bit from the early 90s
a few progs from the 80s
A bunch of collections - Young Death, The Judge Child etc
Heaps of Garth Ennis stuff
5 Doctor Who comic collections
Two Judge Dredd annuals
and a partridge in a pear tree (not for sale)

I'm putting them here box by box and using Wake's handy price guide, but feel free to inquire about the rest.  Postage, you pay.  I live in Melbourne Australia.  The prices are in pounds, but for anyone interested in paying in sunbronzed Australian dollars, just double it.
