Good cover featuring rampaging Tree-People, by Cliff Robinson and Dylan Teague.

Dredd - Planted,: Action heavy finale to this two-parter. There's also a small appearance by a small battalion. Great artwork on this.

Lawless - Ashes to Ashes: Grandma Lawson has a productive and informative chat detailing the true nature of the Zhind. Things seem to be taking another interesting turn. Maybe the Old Ma Lawson thing is a bit of a red herring.

Storm Warning - Green and Pleasant Land: More Tree-Hugging hippies and a trip around the Hanging Tree. Love the artwork on this series. Brit-Cit Lawmasters look like a bit of a handful when it comes to driving.

Blunt - Book 2: Good episode which reveals a bit more about what's actually going on. I could tell you all about the crystals but you'll just have to try and read my mind. This episode also features some excessive chinnage. Bruce forsythe and Jimmy Hill are mere pretenders to the throne.

Dark Judges - The Torture Garden: The crowning jewel of the Megazine! The survivors go for a run in the woods, with horrifying consquences. This series is excellent and once again we see how a new Dark Judge can be done right (see also: the glorious, Deadworld).

The Zhind seem to feature quite a bit across this Meg. Could it be building up to something more?

There are also four text pieces - A crowd funder Horror comic, GRYYYM. Interrogations: Dan Watters, comic writer. Casper Wijngaard, artist and a classic comics picece featuring Tammy and Jinty.

Great Meg!

Cheers

Yes. I wonder
if rather than us worrying that there was going to be some timey-wimey shenanigans with the Zhind sending Lawson back, they've in fact pulled her mind forwards in time to show her what she needs to do. Remeber that we'd all pegged this as some kind of Zhind mind trickery/torture when the jump forward first happened — it would be a kind of neat subversion of expectation if that's more or less what has happened but for very different reasons.
Totally agree. Torture Garden has been a great, deep series for the Dark Judges (a very interesting, philosophical take on them), a good spooky new Dark Judge and terrific, insanely detailed art throughout!

Bit of a mah Meg for me alas.

The Dredd ends with all flash and fury but nothing more really. A distraction and a little disappointing.

Lawless has a great episode - which by its own standards was a little disappointing BUT by George I think Jim has called it.

Both Storm Warning and Blunt have kinda lost me now. The key difference is I'm engaged with Blunt enough to be really looking forward to reading it again. Storm Warning I'm just not interested in this time.

Torture Garden has a quiet menance all be it with a new Dark Judge I'm not convinced by the scene with Hershey at the end was creepy as hell mind.

Text features didn't really grab me this month and the interview with Casper Wijngaard made me sad as it seemed to confirm we ain't getting any more of his and Si Spurrioso's wonderful Angelic - this makes me very sad.

The floppie remains okay as all of these Operation Overlord comics have been. I applaude the idea wholeheartedly even if I've not been blown anyway by the choice of series. Which given the series is right in a wheelhouse is a real surprise - ho hum.

There's a tendency for some comic fans to decry work-for-hire contracts as an evil force in the comics industry and claim that creator-owned is the way of the future. I can, off the top of my head, think of half-a-dozen well-reviewed, at least moderately well-selling, creator-owned titles that made their creators more-or-less no money at all.*

Here's the thing those fans don't seem to understand about creator-owned vs WFH: reward is a function of risk. WFH is about eliminating risk for the creators — the publisher takes the risk of the title making no money and the creators get paid regardless. Yes, it's true that creators often get screwed when a property takes off and there's suddenly TV/movie money up for grabs, yes, there should absolutely be a more equitable way of distributing the spoils of successful IP...

But the idea that publishers shoulder all the financial risk while creators get all the financial reward is not one that suggests a long and happy future for the industry.

* I didn't work on all of them, before some smart-arse tries to work out which books I'm talking about.

Enjoying both Lawless and Torture Garden. The rest of the stories where readable but nothing spectacular and the meg feels like it is in little dip.
When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in his car.

I tried a different approach to reading my Meg this month. I got out the last two months and read each story as a complete 3 month piece (part from Lawless which didn't need that approach).

It takes more time but it was well worth it. Even Blunt made some sense, Storm Warning was good and the Torture Garden was just great.

Lawless remains the top thrill and is the best thing Tharg is publishing right now given Brink and Machine Law have finished.

So all in all a great Meg.

Argghhh...where is that modify button when you need it?

Meant to say I completely agree with Jim's theory re Lawless and I really do hope that is the case. The last two panels certainly seem to support that.

Read Lawless and had to hop on here to see what people are thinking...

... yup, like that thinking!

Why the swearing in Lawless? I don't understand what it adds.
