Film & TV / Re: Independence Day: Resurgence (2016)

When I popped into HMV this morning they had the 20th Anniversary Edition of the original film on Blu-ray as one of the impulse buys (£4.99 with any purchase), so I picked it up when I bought the original Quatermass and the Pit.  If anyone wants the code to download a digital HD copy PM me (offer valid until 31/12/2019, only whilst stocks [one code] last).

Erik Bauersfeld, aged 93.  Who you ask...   Only the speaker of the most iconic and most quoted Sci-fi line ever - not a trap, honest

Yep, it's identical to the normal trade (The Pit, True Grot, Unjudicial Liaisons, Last Rites, Declaration of War and Bongo War) plus a covers gallery.

It's a pretty decent series, starts off as a normal boy-meets-robot-girl story before moving on to things like what does it mean to be sentient, what sort of rights should robots have, and should people be afraid of A.I.s.  There's probably some allegories about human rights and the like in there as well.

The art is very clean, not exactly minimalist but uncluttered.

Thanks Colin_YNWA, they're pretty good shelves but not quite perfect, the spacing holes for the shelves don't allow for three rows of full sized trades (as you can see though the middle shelf is ideal for smaller books), and they're quite deep so books can be pushed back if you're not careful (I use the boxes from the Star Trek Starship collection to keep books to the front, two rows of boxes are the perfect size).

Not sure about Mr Simonson's work of Warhammer, he's certainly not listed in the two books I've got.

Cheers guys.

Tordles: Hack/slash is a bit hit and miss, some stories are pretty good, others not so good and to be honest I've only got about half way through the third omnibus, I might give it another go soon.

Hawkmumbler:- The Wh40k books were published by Boom! back in around 2007/8 I picked them up from the clearance section in Forbidden Planet a few years ago so they're possibly out of print now.  The bigger Volume "Only War" has stories written by Dan Abnett and Ian Edginton whilst the other is actually the fifth volume in a series about the Ultramarines.

I'm glad someone rebooted this thread as I've just done a bit of reworking in my library.  A tall bookcase I had was starting to come away so I decided to buy some new, shorter, ones to replace it.  Rather than lug them all the way home in a taxi I used Argos' Hub-to-Home same day delivery system (little plug for my employer there).

My family has a couple of (fairly loose) connections to Paul Daniels.  His father threw my father out of the local cinema on a couple of occasions*, and back in the 80's my older brother worked as a roadie for Daniels' son Martin for a while.  Sad week for entertainment all round.

*Dad swears he was innocent and that it was other people causing trouble, throwing sweets at the screen, and than Mr Daniels Senior was just heavy handed.

The top one's from part two of "Six", a P.J. Maybe story from Megazine 221 and 222, based on the Lawmasters I'd say the second one is from one of Movie!Dredd stories.

There's a new English-language version of the Nikopol Trilogy coming on April 12th.  This is a series I've been curious about ever since I saw a few panels on the old documentary "Comics Confidential" years (decades?) ago.

I mentioned it over in the "comics for 2016" thread and I'll repeat it here - Vol.1 of Namibia and Vol.3 of Survivors are both due on the 3rd of March 2016.

They haven't been on the shelves of the Middlesbrough WH Smiths for at least a month now, I get mine put in a drawer for collection.  I did see a small stack of them on a shelf in the stock room of FP though so other people may be ordering it in through them.

Lying on the bunk in my hut, radiator on, listening to the Last Night of the Proms over my digital radio and reading Voltaire's Candide on my Blackberry. Surely this is the best of all possible worlds...

Does Mrs Radiator know you've borrowed her husband  :P
