General / Re: The 2000AD Advent Calendar 2017!
26 December, 2017, 01:30:50 PM
Hey all.
Haven't posted on here in a looooooooong time due to life and shit, but I stumbled across my advent calendar entry from 7 years ago (yes, 7 years ago, I can't actually believe that) the other day and I reckon there's probably a lot of people here now who never saw this before so I thought I would post the link to it again.

A lot of work went into this 'choose your own adventure' type thing and a lot of forumites (I'm sure the majority of them are still around) did some amazing artwork for it so if you haven't seen this before might be worth a few minutes of your time.

Happy Christmas everyone, hope you are all doing well.

Dirk

I just saw this news this morning, having first seen the news about Logan, and to say I am utterly stunned is an understatement. I worked with Stephen for over a year on Icarus Dangerous and he was an absolute gentleman, a brilliant collaborator and an amazingly talented individual. His loss is a great blow to the small press and to comicdom in general. He loved drawing the Icarus strip and had mentioned a few times to me about wanting to do more, even coming up with some story suggestions himself. I never met him in person but will miss him greatly nonetheless. RIP Stephen P.

Cheers guys, hope you like the book! Ive had a sneak preview from Davey and it looks the business, very professional production. Its amazing to actually see this. It was written over a period of 2-3 years with large gaps between installments, so Im looking forward to reading it back from the start as well! I tried to make this script as fun and bizarre and 'epic' as possible, most of all trying to include as many memorable characters as I could. IF anyone remembers an anime from the 80s called Space Firebird, that was one source of inspiration for this - take a bunch of completely different, wierd and wonderful characters and throw them, unwittingly, into a dangerous adventure that very few of them - if any -  are going to walk away from. Its by far the largest cast of characters Ive ever had to handle in a story and, obviously, by far the longest single comic story Ive written. At 72 pages long, its a far cry from the self-contained 6-8 pagers I normally do! The art by Stephen Prestwood is fantastic to look at. The lettering by Jim Campbell is as good as ever. The covers by Matt Soffe are divine. There's a couple of bonus pin-ups also drawn by Stephen. And hopefully the story's pretty good too! Its a big, meaty read for a couple of quid and it looks great. You cant go wrong! Give it a try!

Yeah it was a cracker of an ending, great season overall. Looking forward to 8. And yes, it is definitely the last. There's a couple of teaser trailers knocking around, which look ominous!!! Cant see there be any happy endings for anyone in here!

Thanks fellas!

Greg - gladly! :)

Here's the cool greyscale cover by David Blankley, showing off our resident one-eyed donkey assassin Duncan  and his companion Jamie Swift. In issue 2,Duncan had to save Jamie from a gang of ruthless bandits...this time round, Jamie has to return the favour. :)

Hi guys

Just thought Id throw out a little mention that Edition Three of our anthology comic Vanguard is now available, both in print and digital format. I know a bunch of you guys here picked up the last two issues (thank you!) and may have been wondering what happened to 3. Short, boring answer - a few of us involved had 'personal issues' that simply got in the way of fun comic-making. Stupid personal issues!

Anyway, we got there in the end and we have a cool comic to show for it, 32 pages this time, all-new comic material featuring the continuation of all (bar one) of the stories that appeared in issues 1 and 2, and a few new stories kicking off as well.

The comic features artistic contributions from forum regulars Bhuna, El Chivo and the artist currently known as Prof T. Bear (I think!), as well as some other incredibly talented 'pencil-monkeys'.

In true anthology fashion, there is 'something for everyone' - gothic horror, action/adventure,  sci-fi noir, time-travel shenanigans, black comedy, supernatural heroics and zombies. Well, no, there's not actually any zombies, but there probably should be, because everybody always seems to want zombies. We DO have a 'back from the dead' serial killer though, does that count? :)

Plenty more info, including sample pages of ALL the stories in the mag, can be found on our blog here -
http://vanguardcomic.blogspot.ie/

The comic is available on comicsy and lulu (info on the blog) but if you order from me you get a set of 4 free postcards, featuring some of the comics characters by guest artists (including other fellow forumers Chris Askham and Tony Rothwell.) You can check out the artwork for these on the blog. I only have a handful of issues and cards left myself, and I am leaving for Japan in a couple of weeks, so if you'd like to get your hands on a set you'd need to contact me asap. Once they're gone, they're gone, and they really look good. I also have some copies of the previous set of cards (that went out with issue 2) that I can throw in, for anyone who didn't get them first time round.

Anyway thats enough shameless pimping from me! As you were! :)
