News / Re: Is Judge Dredd available in Germany?

He is not being censored; he just can't find a German publisher.

He is so ignorant, and wants to keep his "cool" looking ss in his comic; he has to live with it.

Then it is justified.

Using Nazi symbols for entertainment and marketing purposes is vile. Any computer game, book, or comic that needs nazi symbols is not worth the money.

But that's a clear personal preference I suppose. I hate the stuff. If somebody uses them, they should have a good explanation and a good cause.  This ^^ example  is NOT a good cause and its a "no purchase" for me. There is no need for the use of the SS-Symbol.

Still, no content in Dredd is subject to censorship in Germany.

Seeing as the light flashes on Dredd's helmet resemble the SS symbol, would they allow them, censor them or downright ban Dredd all together?

Erm... No, Dredd is not banned in Germany.
And the flashes do resemble the S of the SS symbol, but the two Letters must be drawn/writen/depicted together, to form the SS symbol. So its a borderline thing.

I bought a Dredd3D blue ray from Mediamarkt around 2013...

Considering the backround of the comic, there is nothing to censor anyway.
As far as I know, 2000ad and Megazine where available untill the 90s here in Germany, but dont nail me down on that.

If I want a paper copy, I can order one from a few comicbook shops, but it would arrive weeks later. So I prefer the digital issue. It is actually hard to get. I was at a comic con in Dortmund in December. There was nothing 2000ad/Judge Dredd related. No merchandise, not even unathorised junk. No-thing.

I thought this is the "2000ad advent calendar",
not the "Burdis advent calendar"...

The speech patterns of that character don't match Dredd, neither do the gloating tone nor the broad, toothy grin. The page following that scene, where Dredd describes his preferred method of putting the fear of Grud into juves as fixing them with a silent stare is much more in character:

Yeah, I never once thought that first judge in America was meant to be Dredd. Doesn't sound or act much like him, and there's no mention of that encoounter when he meets Beeney and America years later.

I wasn't sure about it, thanks for that guys.

Also I think he grins at America in the first episode of America when he's being sarcastic and mean to her.

Yes, but is it Dredd, or rather an other Judge? I remember that you can't see the badge.

I forgot about that one!  That was during Alan Grant's weed-obsession phase; and was a not-very-good story featuring a stoned Dredd giggling uncontrollably throughout.

Except, of course, it wasn't.  That was a different one, which I can't find in my Megs for the life of me.

And I seem to remember a hint of a smile on Dredd's face when he first contemplated the tight boots option.

Great stuff!  Mind you, I always thought it was a bloke who got powers from the gods in the Grant /Fabry one, not a woman.

It IS indeed a man.

'Twister', prog 588, the last B&W page before the Full Colour Dredd era, I believe!

Yes it's Twister - last page. Impressive :D
