Anyone got some love for the guitarists phat-fingering siblings?
Dunno about greatest evers- too many good ones too choose from, But I love the bassline from Flux of Pink Indians 'Myxomatosis', every time I hear it, up goes the volume. Simple as hell- but bouncy and catchy.

Surprisingly easy thread this one.

Phil Lynott's opening to Dancing In the Moonlight gets my vote:

Then there's the fast and furious bassline in Ace of Spades:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aSsqavYIgNc
Then there's the absolute bass genius of Steve Harris. Being the creator and driving force of Iron Maiden, he makes sure his bass is at the forefront of most numbers. Here are some superb examples:

Good choices SM - I love how absurdly busy Steve Harris' bass playing is when you strip away the song.
IT HAS NO BUSINESS BEING THAT BUSY but its wonderful.
Surely Alb has some good 'uns to throw in here - A juicy Claypool?

I love Bootsy Collins so much I named my daughter after him. The great man himself tweeted her mum a fortnight ago on my little 'un's birthday to wish her all the best, then tweeted her mum again ten minutes later to offer her a Bootsy goody bag. What a guy.

As for rock you can't beat the late Mr Entwhistle:

Or Flea:

As for funk I agree with Mr Fox; Bootsy is a God but there was also the late great Bernard Edwards:

I have shaken these very hands as a youth, as perhaps have other boarders. Bruce was staying at the same hotel on George square during GLASCAC one year. So naturally you can't help but shout "BRUCE FOXTON" and start gibbering about the Jam. He seemed quite pleased, as it goes.
Sadly, none of his musical talent rubbed off on me. That's why I play the drums.

I love Bootsy Collins. A few pals and I once drove from London to Brighton dressed as the Clones of Dr Funkenstein, blasting all the classics, and only got stopped once by the police. Not for fancy dress, for standing up on the A23 in a topless Citreon CV. No-one had a clue what we were doing, but we were happy.
So your daughter's called Bootsy?
