Stop pre-ordering games

Why?
I've pre-ordered a few times, and every time it's bagged me some sort of freebie. And the chance to pre-download the game which doesn't hurt.

If you know you're going to buy the game upon release, then pre-orderings a pretty sound option IMO.

I don't think I will be pre-ordering this one, might wait until it's half-price, myself.  Relieved to see it's been ported to PC, because I was very nearly going to purchase one of the latest consoles for this, but was going to anyway.

Waiting for reviews of this as though it looks great I'm not really sure how much actual "game" is in there.

This. I can't help but feel it looks like a dull demo. The game seems to involve wandering aimlessly and looking at the pretty pictures.

Now, the recently announced Wonder Boy V (or is it 6) and new Pang... That makes me excited

For real?! Was it Booths or that manky arcade on Buchanan Street that had Pang? I was a pretty handy player at one time but never did make it all the way round the world.

My main interest in No Man's Sky is that one of my favourite bands, 65daysofstatic, haven't released an album for about four years because they've been doing the soundtrack for this.

The manky one was Enterprise. But it was Booths.

The official PS blog has the skinny on the new Pang and Wonder Boy.

New Pang, April 19th (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2016/03/07/the-balloon-busting-pang-adventures-hits-ps4-on-april-19th/)

Enterprise had Double Dragon & Operation Wolf but Booths had Smash TV & Narc.

And where the fuck is my Toki remake Golgoth games, its been 5 fucking years  :'(

ahem, Pang you say...interesting.

Jeez, I was so bad at Pang.

However, I'm a reasonable pilot, and I love exploring strange new worlds, so I'm going to get No Man's Sky.

No Man's Sky looks a bit boring but I'm willing to reserve judgement. To be honest I'd really like to see a new Colony Wars or Rogue Leader.

Pang is a cracking game so very pleased to hear we're getting a new version (there was a pretty bad DS version subtitled 'Magical Michael' in which the game was reimagined with a magician as the main character - hopefully this one will be better).

I'm really hyped for the new Wonder Boy - or Monster Boy as it's called. It's a shame they dropped the 'Wizard of Booze' subtitle - I thought that was great. Personally I think Wonder Boy in Monster World is one of the greatest games ever made so I'll definitely be buying this. Fingers crossed for a physical release.

Just by watching the videos I've seen of this game, I sometimes wondered if this was the game that Spore should have been.

I'll believe Toki is happening when I'm playing it and not before. cheers for the link though as there's a few screengrabs I haven't seen before so maybe they are still working on it.

Mate was talking about No Mans Sky last night and it sounds a lot more interesting now so will have a snoop about for some vids at the weekend. I think the problem is that they revealed it way to early and I can only sustain my hype for so long before something else grabs my interest.

I've been swithering about getting a PS4 since the start of the year. Reckon I'll buy one at the end of the month if I can make it through the next two weekends without going crazy on champagne and oysters.

Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne are the big draws but it really seems like Sony have managed to pull back all the ground they lost to XBLA on the 360. Nobody seems to mention PS4 without banging on about Rocket League.

Haha - secret retro gaming thread.

Amiga was all about Speedball 2 and Supercars 2.

Yeah Ps4 is really coming into its own, next week I cannae wait for Day of the Tentacle remake.

and I will state in writing that Bloodborne is one of my top 10 games ever.

I meant to say Toki was the best arcade conversion on the AMiga

It's gorgeous.  Intended to play for a while last night, and was captivated for hours.

I discovered a species of llama with a tongue for a face, and a terrifying, fat, six legged camel with a strange doll head.  I've hidden in caves to try desperately to keep warm, and fought off space pirates in a dogfight.  I've discovered strange alien artefacts and spent ages shooting at rocks.

It's clearly a game that's going to divide people between "but what am I supposed to do, there's no plot its just collecting things" and "my God, there's so much to do".

Seems there are some pretty big issues with the PC version but I downloaded it for PS4 last night.

It's quality. I've played for about four hours and haven't even flown my spaceship yet. Just wandered around the first planet giving animals stupid names.

Too early to say, but the 'not much game' criticisms may be reasonable. Don't bother me too much. I could play Flow and Fantavision for hours on end.

I'm loving it, although the scope of it feels a little overwhelming at times.  Also, the galactic map is a bit of a pig to navigate - I flew from my starting system to a second one I randomly picked and then couldn't find my way back to where I started from!

For the first time in the game, I have arrived in a star system someone else has discovered before me. The wonder and excitement of crossing paths with another voyager of the interstellar void was only slightly reduced by discovering they'd named the place 'Poop'.

Ha ha. It wouldn't let me use the word "bass" when renaming stuff.

I haven't had this yet. Mostly because I'm so obsessed with mining stuff that I still haven't left the first system even though I've had the hyperdrive ready since Monday.

PS - anyone finding it hard to track down all the animals on a planet? I finally got the 'naturalist' title by uploading a 100% planet, but only because it was an arid rock with no indigenous life on it at all!!

I couldn't use "screaming".

I'm sort of glad that the game has no real multiplayer.  Every multiplayer experience will eventually be ruined by a cursing twelve year old, desperate to prove his manhood.

The game is really opening up now, with varied creatures on lots of planets and different types of systems.  Finding the resource I need and just surviving has become hard.  A lot of the reviewers who complained about the lack of variety clearly hadn't played for very long and wanted wondrous worlds from the outset

Yeah, I've always been missing at least two.  Is it just me having problems tagging birds?  They're usually too fast and far away to get a lock on.

Definitely not. Can't get a bead on the small, nippy ones for long enough. Saw a recommendation somewhere else to try shooting them and scanning the corpse but even that's too much for me. The one planet I have managed to 100% had some Neverending Story style flying dragons instead of birds.

Oh, and it was "baws", not "bass" which their profanity filter rejected...

This.

Playing Call of Duty online eventually made me question my own sexuality.

I mean, with so many American teenage boys telling me I was gay, maybe majority rules applied, and they all knew something about me that I didn't.

Wow, after a long lengthy grind.  I was offered the blueprints for a hyper-drive. Which reminds me of how I lost my virginity, but your have to work that out for yourselves  since I'm not to divulge any more on that.

One of those Korvax finally took pity on my seemly fruitless work and gave them to me much to my surprise & after al, I almost didn't realise what I was given. Since the amount of reading was starting to bore me.

The game is alittle more interesting, but a unforseen problem forced me to uninstall the game from my Steam list and I just can't reinstall it completely for the time being.

I appreciate that a lot of people have moved away from No Man's Sky in frustration/uninstalled/smashed their discs and joined the howling internet rage calling for Sean Murray to be put to death.  But...

It turns out Hello Games have been working to bring NMS up to the standard they wanted.  The Foundation update improves graphics, changes the UI and unlocks some of the variation possible.  It also adds base building, upgrades space battles, a survival mode, photo mode, and changes the way the game feels and plays.  Remember how you could throw a rock and hit some essential plutonium?  It's all gone.  Bases are rarer, animals seem more common.

I've just started a new game in survival.  I spawned a ten minute walk from my ship, and have spent the best part of an hour trying to get to it.  I've died four times.  I feel like Matt Damon.
