So this looks like a great excuse for another aborted attempt at a get together.
Let's start by noting who is interested in coming along and then we can work out a date. We have a six month window for this so should be able to manage one or two dates that mean different gangs can turn up.
My thoughts for the sort of day would be:
1100 - Meet at Gallery for a coffee
1115 to 1215 - wander round exhibition
1215 to 1230 - gift shop
1230 to 1400 - the 78 for lunch and beer
1400 until going home time - a West end pub crawl.
Or something like that but better.
So who is in?
I think you should have stopped having fun when I emigrated.
A fiver! Help me boab!
Fortunately this falls just after my birthday so I should have the bawbees. I have very little in my diary for the period of the exhibition so I'm happy to be guided by those with busy and interesting lives!
Count me in
Aye, count me in! I can always go with the 'Fick method later on ;)
How's about the first Saturday it's on?
8th April. Who can/can't make that one?
Greenie Droid please insert caustic comment here:
Hmm, didn't realise Huffsters going?

I'm happy to say I have no idea WTF that is :D
* Minor impediment alert *
Think I'm in.

Any more?
I'm I counted in your Famous Five Tom? Will certainly come along. Can we firm on a date so the tickets can be bought? 8th April good for me.
How could we do without that strange sexual tension you have?
I can't do 8th April as I'm away in Arran.
But don't let that stop you. It's on for a while so I'm sure we can do a second date.
Begun it has.
I love you all
:P Got another date Tips? when you're not at another fecking wedding/barmitzfa/ boat launch?
I currently have nothing in the diary for April!
Not the 22nd please as that's my birthday and I'm sure to be reflecting on my wasted youth doing something super exciting.
Assuming we want to keep it to a Saturday and avoid Easter weekend itself, would either of these suit:
- 29th April (note Bank Holiday on Monday 1st may)
- 6th May
29th April sounds fine :P anyone not able...
OK for April 29.
Rejigged my brain on the website - be warned the fiver entry is one of those fashionable-these-days 'early bird' deal gubbins. Ends after January. The horror of 'normal pricing' then applies - no further details :o
Let's keep the logistical grief coming.
29th works for me
But'Man you in?
Paging Dr X to the thread...
I'm game!
My friends photos are on at the GCA too so it will be a cultural extravaganza! No often one can say that in Weegeeville ;)
Has anyone one reached out to the great and the good about this?
If I'm a good boy, can I tag along at the back o' youse :)

I'm on a night out the night before, and also have to travel from the Eastcoast Safezone, so don't expect me before lunchtime...at least.

Want to met there or is there a handy bar? Mother India would be nice for a scran too.

Okay- sorry lads, I'll have to cancel as I'm skint and you're all too far away. Job done, all in one sitting.

Frank Quietly: The art of comics, in conversation
Scots comic book artist Frank Quietly shares some superhero secrets and uncovers who inspired the Scottish comic creators of Batman, Superman, X-Men and more. Audience superhero dress up is encouraged. The talk is in partnership with the exhibition 'Frank Quietly: The art of comics' at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum (April to October 2017).
Wednesday 19 April
18.00-19.30
Free.
Book 'Frank Quietly' on Eventbrite or phone 0845 366 4629.
That's four Quietlys :o :o :-X :o
Relatedly, hope I can make this (the exhibition). In a very CalHabber move, I have been cancelling *everything* in recent weeks for reasons I won't bore youse with. Fingers crossed. Kelvingrove is grand.
Yeah, cut and pasted from a website ::)
the exhibition was reviewed on Radio4 on Saturday by one of their high-brow arty panels - all three guests, though knowing very little about comics, absolutely raved about it.
Right then ticket is now bought so you's bums had better show face
Enjoy my birthday. Those of you who don't cancel.
I'm still in. Though I may be on the train back to Edinburgh with The Huff as I need to be at work in Edinburgh at 0645 on Sunday 30th....
I've got my ticket :)

Oh no!
I have the Rangers v Celtic game on the 29th!
Bigotry, hatred & petty jibes - and I have to miss it for the football!
The game has a 12 noon kick off so I should be able to make it for 2.30 or so. What is the preferred meet up time? Happy to book a ticket but no point if you'll be done by then - I could just meet up for the post cultural drinkies?
Someone chose a time? then we can all disagree
How about this...
1300 - meet for a pint in The 78
1430 - into the exhibition
1630 - pint in another pub
1800 - mother India for beer and curry
2000 - whatever seems most fun...
And of course is anyone knows and wants to invite Frank himself along, feel free.
I'm sure he'd love the opportunity to discuss his work with drunken fans. :)

This works for me apart from the first bit - I'd just see you at the museum - unless you are all pissed in which case I'll run away!
OK, got mine booked - it says pick up at the box office - does anyone know if that's at the museum? The office address they give is for the Concert Hall in the city centre.
Forget that - the confirmation email says you can get them at the box office at the venue.
That should work for me too, I don't think Fin will be joining us, but John McShane said he might pop along.
Has anyone asked Alex?

WTF!!! I knew him organising was to good to be true.
We went along to this at the weekend and loved it. There's much more in there than we expected, when we got into the first room we sort of assumed that was it but more space and more areas kept revealing themselves. We spent probably an hour and a half wandering through and we didn't really do any of the multi-media stuff (there are screens and headphones with documentaries and things).
Well worth a visit, especially at the price!

That should be do-able and avoids the fitba madness, Dode up for it too and possibly a couple of others...
Tips, 78 says booking advisable at the Weekends? whatchafink?
Menu looks great BTW
So tempted to get a vegan burger just so I can complain about it no matter how good it is for the rest of my life. Which is not that long obvs.

Well my project went to hell in a handcart this last two days... the good news is I don't have to work Sunday so can drink more.
So see you at the 78 at 1300.
No call offs? How very not us! See you at the exhibit at about 2.30. If the game is close I may not leave until full time which may mean a queue for the subway - 3pm latest!

And what a fun day it was! Beer, exhibition, beer and a curry - the kind of excitement the Souther Softies can only dream about.

Finally home for midnight...those border checks in Harthill just get worse!
Nice report there BM, there should be a letters worth in there at least.
Great seeing aw'body and some stunning art... almost convinced to read that Superman book!
Smashing day oot & company :)
Those digital blow-ups of the art that covered most walls were inspired. Can see why many of the norms would spend time peering at these - a great way to appreciate Frank's art all the more.
Somebody has to write the inevitable Batman v The Broons crossover. The Bairn as new sidekick, even.
I'm off to dig oot my Flex Mentallos.
Yes, good day with great company. Thanks.
Quitely really is a genius. The words that apply and make him so are; perspiration, anatomy, perspective, characterisation and dynamism.
Guys, looks like you all had a grand day out, and the exhibition looks superb!
