Announcements / Judge Dredd: The Cursed Earth card game
05 December, 2017, 09:45:08 PM
Surprised no-one's picked up on this here yet, unless I missed it. Looking forward to there being a JD game that is neither miniature-based nor RPG so I can play it with family members. The upcoming Block War card game looks like it will be a lot of fun but it's only for two players, whereas this is for more. Also, the artwork isn't pilfered from past publications, it's specially commissioned. Based on a game I've never heard of called The Lost Expedition.

Here's a couple of links:

There's lots of Dredd in the pipeline for tabletop gamers at the moment.

I don't mean in the sense of "what's the best scene?". The more I read the comic the more I come across scenes where I think: that's sick/depressing. Then I think about it for a while and realise how original these ideas are and it makes me appreciate Dreddworld even more.

So, which scenes have made you put down what you're reading just so you can take a few seconds to let the implications sink in?

I originally wanted to say "shocking" instead of "surprising" but I think that veers towards the negative and undermines the range of genres the strip can accomodate.

General / Rogue Trooper: Tales of Nu-Earth v. 3
30 August, 2012, 08:25:57 AM
I can't seem to find an existing thread on this with the search function, so...

I have two questions, if anyone would be kind enough to oblige.

A third Rogue Trooper collection is being released in November but as yet information is thin on the ground. Since Chris Weston's name is visible on the cover, does that mean it will contain any of the Friday stories?

What I am searching for is a copy of War Machine whose price isn't in the double figures, but I assume that if Will Simpson isn't credited on the cover of volume three then this story isn't in it. Does anyone know?

Film & TV / World's End
12 May, 2012, 10:02:48 AM
I thought I'd start a thread for the last in Pegg and Wright's Blood and Ice Cream trilogy, perhaps prematurely, since filming starts this autumn:

http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/1365206/edgar_wright_and_simon_pegg_filming_the_worlds_end_this_autumn.html

There was a time when I clamoured like a misguided fool to see further Spaced/Shaun/Hot Fuzz related material but Pegg's output since Hot Fuzz has dampened my spirit to say the least. Pegg and Frost only seem to make me laugh when they're under Wright's direction. Since they've pastiched the horror and action genres, this one seems like it'll head down the sci-fi route.

Is anyone still looking forward to this or do you share the opinion of the DoG commenter imagestic (see link) that "it's gonna suck big hairy donkey balls"?

Books & Comics / How can this price be real?
12 February, 2012, 06:21:53 PM
Does £999.99 seem reasonable to anyone for the fourth Stronty Agency Files?

http://www.play.com/Books/Books/4-/3490888/Strontium-Dog/Product.html?searchtype=allproducts&searchsource=0&searchstring=STRONTIUM+DOG&urlrefer=search

How can this happen, as it must be an error? At least it's free delivery.

Off Topic / Etymology thread: Arsom
24 January, 2012, 01:24:09 PM
This might be a short-lived one but being relatively new to this forum I'm curious to know why you lot use arsom (awesome) as an adjective round here. I bring it up because (1) I'm nosey, and (2) I noticed a judge named Arsom in Case Files 14 and it struck a chord. Is he owt to do with it?

Books & Comics / Cheap online stores for trades
19 December, 2011, 05:10:21 PM
Do any boarders know of any websites other than Ebay that offer cheap prices and international P&P on 2000ad trades? The reason I ask is that, not being UK-based, Ebay is only really the cheap option at holiday times when I can get to the UK to pick stuff up (thrilled at having just picked up DW Red Tide, JD Henry Flint Collection, America and Mandroid for just over a tenner on Ebay, though).

I'm discounting Amazon, Book Depository, Play and Aphrohead here. Apologies if this is a commonly repeated thread, I did search for suchlike but found nowt.

Welcome to the board / Intensive lurker decloaks
17 May, 2011, 10:05:26 AM
Hi to all. I've been a fairly intensive lurker of these pages for a few weeks and felt I should pop in and say hi. Also, to say thanks to the posters whose opinions led me to make some purchases. The fact is I feel a little bit silly being interested in all this again as a "grown up", a sensation fuelled by my wife's wordless reactions when she sees words like "Portrait of a Mutant" in the Google bar.

To not pay P&P for something on Amazon I added Slaine Warrior's Dawn based on memories of Mike McMahon's artwork from when it was filler in some Rogue Trooper collection (I think), placed in my hands during a service station break one childhood car journey. When the new book arrived I at first felt embarassed to be reading it and I didn't much like Massimo Belardinelli's art (sorry, but for some reason the faces reminded me of Roy of the Rovers). But the seed of interest has been planted. Or is just nostalgia?

Years ago I had been morbidly fascinated/terrified by my older cousin's 2000AD covers and Iron Maiden posters all over his walls (and team of judges for Warhammer's Blood Bowl). How could something so weird that made no sense be so fully developed and well executed? I joined in on the prog/meg fun in earnest just before the Judgement Day series and stopped when Melody Maker seemed more interesting. By sheer bad luck, from lurking here it seems that people regard this as the worst period ever for the comic. E.g. I liked Khroncles of Khaos best back then, but everyone on here seems to think it is weak.

I've just bought JD CF14 purely based on memories of those Dark Judges covers, along with Dead Man and Slaine The Horned God. If I still like it, I'll probably get the second Strontium Dog collection, since I remember most of the 3rd volume from another one of those summer collection comics. What does anyone think, is the second better than the third or are they pretty much the same quality?

Thanks for reading my rambling.
