As a rabid little englander (rembering that the phrase was first use to described those who wanted to say screw the Empire let's make the people of Britian's life better) I love the Eurovision song contest as every year it shows how little we have in common with Europe and destroys the myth that we're europeans (plus it has Terry Wogan) so I loved the nil points.

P.S. We won't get relegated because we pay to much to those who run it (like everything with the word europe in)

"Do you reckon the mills fan is really Mr. Mills himself? I've noticed a bit of Mills promotion on the board recently, and that letter in this weeks prog was down right suss, "oh i'm trying to remember a Slaine story that featured Cythrons & the Guildig, is it available as a Graphic novel as I haven't seen it reprinted" Nice timing Tharg!"

I'm not Pat Mills promise!. The only reason I suggested him was that he had written a screenplay for the ML film. Its quite obivous that Wagner & Grant would be the best to script as they have the most experience of the character.

"do you still get Torys? werent they all burnt at the stake or something?"

Hey

"So william i'm guessing you don't like much else thats in the prog, much ?"

You kidding? I thought this prog was great (as they all have been since prog 2003) fav stories ABC Warriors and Snow/Diggle

General / Dredd Screenplay

Reading Marshal Law yesterday (great by the way) and in teh back it says that Pat Mills wrote the screenpaly for the movie that was planned. This got me thinking, Mills always wrote Dredd as a hero which is what is needed in the film so why not get Mills to write it?

Well its an idea.

"++And believe me as a Tory atheist I am not Pat Mills ++

so why do you like his stuff so must ? it about everything your not?

S.Ceptic "

Well there's christian bashing which I'm always up for. And after I just enjoy the stories/characters etc you see being a Tory if you want to enjoy any good pop culture you pretty much have to leave your politics at the door. Plus I'm pretty open-minded about political views so I cope. Although I haven't read WW3 or Finn so maybe that would have tested me.

Admittedly it was Wagner's original idea but I just ask you to consider what type of character we would have without Mills. Wagner imagined it to be a more contemporay character than it became and it was thanks to Pat that it was moved to the future. Also although its true that he wrote relativly few Dredd stories he got the most popular Dredd stories of 77 and 78 and was responsible for popularising the character.

"Of course Dredd really became exceptional when Wagner started writing again and gave it some edge."

Not true the Cursed Earth was the result of John loosing it in luna

"And finally, as a writer Wagner rarely misses the mark and still gives us some genuine surprises after all these years (Sin City, Trial of Orlok and (hopefully) the Chief Judge's Man). But the best thing that could be said about the recent ABC Warriors story is that it's hit and miss."

Fistly the ABC Warriors are kick ass at the moment (then I again I would say that) and as for Wagner.. 3 words

angel family resuurection

Seriously Wagner is Dredd and all but Pat certainly had a big big part in Dredd that deserves some crediting (maybe instead of co-creater "developed by.." on the credits).

On another note does anyone know why Pat portrayed Dredd as a hero? It kinda goes against his other characters.

"HELLO WELCOME

for a moment i thought you where pat mills. but then i read your intro.

useful thread here take a look.makeyuo feel right at home."

Ah your too kind.

And believe me as a Tory atheist I am not Pat Mills

General / Pat Mill's as Dredd creator

Now I know some of you think that Wagner is the only one that can write Dredd as he created him but surely Pat Mills had just as much a part to play as Wagner and Carlos. From the Mega-History and TPO you read that he came up with both first and second, decided what year to set it, decided to accept Carlo's design despite Wagner's protests, develop the back story of Dredd (Return of Rico) and Mega  City One (the cursed earth) and wrote the opening stories.

Now I was thinking that surely this is enough for Pat to be recognised as Dredd's co-creater with Wagner and Carlos.

P.S. Quick hello to you all the name's William and I've been a loyal squaxx de tharg for three years (I had read when I was younger but dropped it).

Prog / Re: 1341 - The final countdown!......
22 May, 2003, 03:15:42 PM

Thoughts on Prog 1341

Dredd: Good end to a good tale. Robbie wrote a deep script and some of the line's from Dredd are quite touching. Nice art too.

ABC WARRIORS: Guess. Good ending to a good run with Mills back on near to top form and producing a quality, fun strip which is miles better than the rather po-faced previous run. The characterisation has been good espeacially of Mek-Quake and Blackblood. Some great lines in it as well. I'd agree that's quite camp but as an Abba fan (nudge nudge) I can live with that.
The artwork's been good and if go back to Carlos's previous ABC Warriors stuff it stands up well although I'd personally like to see Jock do the next book.

Interceptor: Its a sci-fi soap! I'm enjoying it even if the idea of aliens using earth as a dumping ground is nothing new. Nice art.

Snow/Tiger: Lots of fighting little politics. Which in many ways is good as I (slightly) disagree with the politics of the piece. Good script and great art although I think it would have been more interesting to have the muslim women as the hardline neo-conservative (anyone see Panorama on Sunday? Those guys are scary) and the man as some angst ridden liberal.

Plus I would have rather had 50 pages of Lenny Zero.

News / Re: Scarlet Traces Hardback Collec...

Loved Scarlet Traces although I wish Edington could have been more of a victorian politics buff. I would have so marked out if they had of put Joe Chamberlain as PM (representing the fact that the new weapons makes Britain self confident enough to have THE Imperialist as PM) instead of that Gladstone clone.

Seeing as you know could you answer a question for me? Is he right wing politically? Because alot of his stories (i.e. Preacher) do have right-wing subtexts and I was thinking that maybe these including a liking for the character (off the top my head he is the only Dredd writer I have ever heard say they like Dredd as a character/person)wing politics) is what grates with people.

Personally I love his stuff especailly Emerald Isle and Death Aide.
