Title: Greetings. Been out of the game a while.
Post by: 8-Ball on 03 August, 2012, 08:20:43 PM
I just wanted to say hello to my fellow thrill-guzzlers. I am a thirty-three year old civil servant from Scotland who read 2000AD every week from 1991-1994. I first encountered 2000AD in a dentist's waiting room in 1989 and I read it semi-regularly from prog 650. Girls, Stallone's Judge Dredd and the NME pulled me away and, I will be honest with you, it took the impending release of Dredd to bring me back. Since July of this year I have purchased volumes 1-14 of Judge Dredd The Complete Casefiles, the two Judge Anderson Psi Division volumes, The Pit, Brothers of the Blood, The Deadman, Origins and I am patiently waiting for a new edition of America. I also cried when Judge Corey shot herself. So there you have it, I don't post much so you won't see my name a lot but I will put my tuppence worth in from time to time. Again, greetings.

Thank you. I decided to catch up to the point where I started buying the Prog on a weekly basis. I'm really looking forward to a Day of Chaos collection. Can I also say that I have enjoyed reading your Cellar Of Dredd blog. Nice one.

Welcome eightball, all that since july is impressive, good on you. Enjoy your stay here, and glad you're buying the prog as well as the trades. Despite current evidence to the contrary, there's much more to 2000AD than just judge dredd.

Welcome aboard, gave fun.

So is Eightball a pool reference or a Daniel Clowes reference?

Ahoy-hoy.

Sounds like you've just been reading Dredd-verse. Have any other thrills tempted you?

Rogue Trooper War Machine. I got the one and only (I believe) Annual as a christmas present. I loved the spread where they compared the two iterations.

I bring shame on my family with my lack of 2000ad credentials there...

Like I said been out of the game for a while so its mainly the staple thrills: ABC Warriors, Strontium Dog etc. I also have a soft spot for Button Man (the head... in the fishtank), Time Flies (the guy with the gogles being kneed in the goolies), Dead Meat (Inspector Ram) and Bad Company (Kano). There is undoubtedly lots of other amazing stuff out there but for the time being my frame of reference is the stories from the late eighties and very early nineties. Looking forward to catching up. :)

Not at all. I've always loved Will Simpson's art for Rogue Trooper War Machine and it was the first thing that came to mind. Thanks for welcoming me back into the fold.

Thanks Pete. Your blog has been invaluable in bringing me somewhat up to speed. Thanks to you I've now got that gorgeous Dredd & Rico Judgement Day homage as my desktop.

A fine desktop indeed! I've been trying to write a synopsis on the blog when ever strips return to try to help folk get up to speed, as well as sort out my muddled brain!

Oh, please do. Also, I had a rummage through your archives and I loved the piece on Carlos Ezquerra.
Carlos Ezquerra is my number one top favourite artist. The blotchy outlines, the chins, the noses and that very particular way that he draws women. It's a very European style that, as a eleven year old boy raised on Transformers and Action Force, blew my tiny mind.

Welcome, citizen.

Stay out of my sight and The Law will have nothing to do with you. Do an error, and you will see me if you are lucky enough or my Lawgiver MkII canon in the worst case.

Now, move. Perp.

Yes, sir. Right away sir. I don't want no trouble. I mean it's not like I've hurt anybody. Certainly not that annoying juve from Tina Turner Block who throws mutie eggs at me. I would never think about throwing back something heavier. :'(
