General / Mega City Timeline
26 October, 2001, 07:42:21 PM
According to the timeline published in the Judge Dredd RPG, reprinted on this very website, Mega-City 1 was built between 2023 and 2031 - at which point Fargo was the first chief Judge.

President Booth started the Atomic Wars in 2070, a few years after Judge Dredd was cloned (in 2066).

If you write a readable screenplay then I would be more than happy to publish it on this website, where 2000AD droids and fans can read it.

What about Si Spurrier? He only started this year after co-winning the Pitch Fest at DreddCon:1  with his Old Red/Moby Dick story.  Since then he has had several future shocks...which might pave the way to a series.

The general feeling of the Scriptdroids Yahoo group is that the road is tough, but not futile.

One reason you see a lot of work from a fairly small batch of writers is that they are prolific. Steve Moore's stuff may not be the best, but it fills the space. John Wagner, Alan Grant, Pat Mills, Dan Abnett, Gordon Rennie, John Smith, etc can all write classic stuff. Just because not everything they do is excellent, doesn't mean that a novice from the scriptdroids group could do better. Even Si Spurrier's recent future shocks haven't been as good as his first one.

Personally , I like SinDex as one off gags...though some are better than others. The Metal Hammer 1 pagers are cool because they condense the story down to it's bare essentials.

I say hello is currently on the top 10 thrills list...more votes on old classics are needed to make this list work.

reassign means move, not delete.

I could reassign all messages in the database which are appear to be from you but have 'scojo' in the message body. Would that do?

I was more referring to alt.comics.2000ad than my contributions to 2000AD in cyberspace.

I sometimes wonder whether the Internet has had an influence, since it has brought creators, fans, editors and now the owners together. Never has 2000AD had so much feedback so quickly.

It may be because he hasn't registered yet, so he can't post to this board.

The unit of measurement is a set of episodes which appear in contiguous magazines. For example, Mercy Height is split up as follows:

Mercy Heights 15 episodes (Progs 1033 to 1047) 91 pages
Script: John Tomlinson, Artist: Various
Featuring: Tor Cyan
Art by Walker/Sullivan/Currie

Dead of Winter 1 episode (Prog 1124) 10 pages
Script: John Tomlinson, Artist: Googe, N
Featuring: Tor Cyan

Mercy Heights Book 2 Part 1 5 episodes (Progs 1133 to 1137) 30 pages
Script: John Tomlinson, Artist: Trevor Hairsine
Featuring: Tor Cyan

Mercy Heights Book 2 Part 2 10 episodes (Progs 1139 to 1148) 61 pages
Script: John Tomlinson, Artist: Various
Featuring: Tor Cyan
Art by Lee Sullivan (6-10)

Because it didn't appear in prog 1138, Book 2 has two entries in the database and therefore you can record 2 separate votes, whereas book 1 was printed in a single run and therefore can only be voted on once.

I did consider making a new entry every time one of the creators changed but that would have been a nightmare on those stories which have a different artist every week or two artists alternating.

I also considered not spliting stories at all, but then I would have had to code which progs each story skipped to avoid it showing up on the wrong prog profiles.

One day, when I have time, I'll deal with the 'various' entries in the credits in a similar way to the costars.

Yes, voting is done on a 'by story' basis. This means that if you vote for the same story several weeks running, only your most recent vote will count.

I'm sorry that you can't dial up a batch of votes and submit them all in one go...to make this possible I'd have to make a major redesign to the scripts.

Other Reviews / Message Board quirks
11 October, 2001, 08:35:17 PM
The cutoff message were multi paragraph ones I pasted from the old board...I think I've sorted them out.

Test new paragraph!

The layout can be changed if it doesn't work...for example at the moment the most recent messages are at the bottom of the page. I can easily reverse this...but that would make replies appear before the originals. I could do something about this but it might slow down the page a bit. The problem with the old board was that all the message title were just stored on a web page, but this one puts them in a database.

Website and Forum / Usernames
11 October, 2001, 03:50:25 PM
This board is now set up so that your posts show your username, rather than your real name. The intention is so that people can continue to use Droid names and pseudonyms, though you can now only have one at a time. If you have registered already but want to change your username you can do this on the change details page. However, you can't change both your username and your email address at the same time. When you change username you will have to log in again, and when you change email address your password will be reset.
