There's an interview with Karl Urban in The Gruaniad today:

I'll save you a click:
QuoteAre you going to be part of the planned Judge Dredd TV show? He perks up a little. "Regardless of whether or not I'm involved with it, I think it's such a wonderful property. John Wagner and his entire staff of writers and illustrators have created so many wonderful stories that I, personally, as a fan of Dredd, would love to see. I can't wait to see what they do with it."

I heard a rumour Disney+ is going to continue the series with the same cast?

Hulk vs Thor: Banner of War Part 1 (Cates, Cóccolo, Mayer, Anderson, Sabino) and Thor #25 (Cates, DeFalco, Shammas, Cóccolo, Frenz, D'Armini, Rich).

I've enjoyed Donny Cates' Thor run to date, so I was optimistic when he took over from Al Ewing on Hulk. Ewing's run started with a bang, but had long run out of momentum by the time it finished. The time was right for a fresh start. Unfortunately, I lasted 3 issues with Cates' Hulk-as-a-spaceship-piloted-by-b=Banner concept. It was a bad idea, and it didn't get any better. Disappointing stuff. Unfortunately, this has now bled over into the Thor run I'd been enjoying with a very, very dull Hulk v Thor fight.

Fortunately, Thor 25 is an anniversary issue which also includes a fun retro DeFalco/Frenz story and a well executed Shammas/D'armini spin on a myth, reminiscent of the current Dark Horse "Norse Mythology" series. Both of which have the unfortunate effect make the main feature look pretty flat in comparison.

I'm now wondering whether to persist with this run.

Back when I lived in Edinburgh, I went to see the band Preston Pfanz & The Seaton Sands a few times, and I always got a chuckle out of their name. It was basically the same guys as Les Bof! (Edinburgh's best French garage band), but with a different singer.

Anyway. Sorry for the digression.

Oh ffs! Will need to check last train times, to Edinbra and then North Berwick... pity we never had our own 2000ad train driver to get me back!

The 124 Bus runs pretty late if you don't mind going through the Pans late at night 😳

Its full name is: "the Pans, eh".

I doubt there are many people under 40 who have a clue who Dan Dare is. Its telling that my first exposure to him was through a ZX Spectrum game, not a comic.

I made a trip to my local independent cinema to see the remaster of Robocop (1987). What an absolute delight. Verhoeven revels in taking everything up to 11. So many classic moments that I've finally seen on the big screen, and now in glorious detail.

Observations from this umpteenth viewing: Peter Weller looks and acts like an alien. It's totally disconcerting but works well within the context of the film. Nancy Allen is brilliant in this and her Officer Lewis neatly avoids all the usual tough girl cliches, while being believable as a cop and very able to handle herself. And, of course, Kurtwood Smith is the real star of this film.

Corralling any genre (but let's pick on Marvel, because it's on topic) behind "not for you, this" signage surely only plays into Scorsese's notion that they're "not cinema".

I agree with that. But, when I hear the same "MCU is boring/derivative/cynical commercial shite" points being made about every Marvel movie, I tune out and just want the debate to move on. I completely understand why some people don't like them (I don't like lots of the MCU films), but maybe we should just give it a rest.

I enjoyed Dr Strange, but then I like Sam Raimi, Marvel and Marvel movies (in that order). If you don't like those, then I'm not sure why you'd stump up your hard earned cash for a ticket.

We watched the first two of those Corpse Talk shorts last night (Cleopatra and Mozart). They went down very well! Good quality stuff.

Ricky Gardiner, guitarist on Bowie's Low album and Iggy Pop's Lust for Life.

That's an incredible couple of years he had: Sound+Vision, The Passenger, Lust for Life, Speed of Life and many others.

Dogs of London (Milligan, Artecida, Bianconi, Steen). On the surface this is a gangster tale set in 60s London and Soho (which reminds me I still need to see that Edgar Wright film) with hints of the Krays. This is Peter Milligan, though, so there are suggestions of experiments, revived corpses and other  strange goings on. I haven't come across Artecida before, but their work is impressive. If I have a criticism, its that it is very static. I think they come from outside comics, so maybe that betrays a slight lack of familiarity with the medium.
