I like my job.

Except when I have to do two or three 17 hour days (and counting for tonight) on the trot.

I hate e-mail.

And the Edinburghian/ Dutch folk who are filling my inbox.

Why won't they leave me alone?

For a bet (honest) I submitted a letter to Metro. It was published today- in Scotland at least. Only thing is, I was off so I never got to see it. Bummer.

It's the one from "The Enigmatic Dr X" for those of you who have it

The football world is set to be rocked again as it has been revealed that pop star Sophie Ellis Bextor was found dead in a French football star's hotel room.  A police spokesman said i think it's a straight forward case of...

Off Topic / Kill Kill Bill
13 October, 2003, 04:29:02 PM
I just found out that the studio behind Kill Bill have decided to split the three hour film into two. Why?

1) Could they think, following LOTR and the Matrix, that audiences are willing to see episodic films (despite those two actually being written as separate films)?

2) Do they want to make more money? They certainly won't let you see part 2 for a cheaper amittance price.

3) Do they want to make even more money? Call me cynical but what happens with the DVD? Do they plan a series of DVD releases, first the two "volumes" as stand alone product, and then a combined "box set"?

4) Do they want to make even more money than that. I read in Empire that the film has some sequences in black and white, to cut down on gore, and apprently Tarintino was told to cut scenes out. Why? The film is an 18! Could it be that the studio wants to release a "special edition" in full colour and with extra bits put back in?

All in all I am upset at such blatant cynicism from a film studio, which is probably niave. Anyway, I for one won't be going to see it - but will probably buy the combined Director's Cut DVD box set in ... oh ... 2006.

General / Toof habits
24 September, 2003, 10:14:00 PM
There I was walking along, just ten minutes ago, chinking half a dozen pound coins in my hands. And then I thought to myself, "now I know why Chinky Goober liked this."

Surely this is not rational behaviour? Or does anyone else adopt the irritating habits of one-off villians from 2K?

I just got an email from the Mighty One, telling me all about the next Meg and how I'm getting a special cover.

So what? Bet you all did.

Thing is, he sent it to my home e-mail and I only gave him my hotmail account.

I saw this when I was about 9 and it really scared me.

Haven't seen it since, but I see it's got a James Cameron connection...

could it be as good as Piranha 2: Flying Fish?

Off Topic / Alien Quadroligy (sp? word?)
15 September, 2003, 06:26:56 PM
This is a new box set of the alien films, due out in December.

As far as I can tell, it's nothing too special over the existing DVDs. I think there's a verion of Alien with the deleted scenes on the current DVD inserted into it, and I know the version of AlienS simply allows you to choose between the original cut and the director's cut.

However, there is a version of Alien 3 with an extra 1 hour and 10 minutes of footage (2h 50m, verses the current 1h 40m).

Does anyone know what is in the extra hour and a bit?

General / Getting it more than once before breakfast
12 September, 2003, 02:52:44 PM
Having returne from my hols on a Monday morning, I had the pleasure of not one, not two, but three (count 'em) progs to read.

Which is all very different from when I were a nipper - back in those days the annual trip to Spain was a fraught time, when I was never sure if I would have any 2K to come back to. Our local newsagent would throw away stuff if it was out of date.

Now, aside from the obvious moral - everyone should subscribe to avoid ruining their holidays - I did wonder how everyone else managed to get their progs while off on holiday, back in the bad old days when subscriptions were unknown.

PS Anyone kill-filed me (heh, not that you'll see this if you have, ya big jobbie-lickers)

PPS Anyone checked out the 2000AD football league? I feel like Martin O'Neill, Alex Ferguson and Wenger rolled into one. Dunno if that's a good thing or not, but everyone eles in the leage seems... rubbish.

I depart later today to supervise the Italian arm of my operations. This is scheduled to take place in Rome and Sorrento over the next two weeks. As a consequence, I will be unable to post due to being bloated following the consumtion of vat quantites (and I mean vat, not vast!) of red wine and pollo cacciotira.

This also means that the brave few daring to stand against my might in the football league will have something of a head start over me.

Anyway, I leave you with details of my next holiday destination - check out the questions and DON'T TELL MRS X!

General / I am confused by Slaine
12 August, 2003, 02:52:30 PM
On reading yesterday's prog, it occured to me that I don't really know what's going on in Slaine. Is it just me, or is the whole story a bit difficult to follow? Maybe this is a result of it being told in books, but anyway could anyone tell me:

1) Where's Ukko?
2) Why, exactly, does no one take Slaine's side? After all he's done?
3) Does this fit in, in any way, with the early episodes? THere were references to Sky Chariots? I thought they were in the past?
4) Is Moloch et al any relation to Elfric? If yes, what do the Fomorians have to do with the Cythrons?
5) How can Kai be a child if Slaine has gone into the future, after being killed?

General / A Second Golden Age?
08 August, 2003, 03:35:44 PM
In an attempt to draw together a few of the more prasiey (I just made that word up, so its (c) me) threads, I do declare that we are curently enjoying a second Golden Age in 2K tales.

It's a veritable Aucthung Baby of a comic just now - a couple of stand out tracks, and the rest would be the highlight of a weaker edition.

Not since the heady days of the early 80s has each story in the comic, in my view anyway, been so consistently good. Sure there have been good storie, but for every Zenith there is a Time Flies.

For me, this weeks prog was almost on a par with the might Prog 224 - which not only was the first prog where I made a point of buying the next issue (I whored myself for the earlier Buck Rogers sticker album), but also featured some consitently good tales, inclding Judge Death Lives, the first book of Nemesis and Meltdown Man. I even liked Mean Arena at the time.

So what do you consider to be the First Golden Age?

And do you think we will need to sink to the 700s style pant-eeze (also (c) me) before we see the likes of this glory again?

Help! / Pros and Cons when shopping for killer Armies
06 August, 2003, 10:50:25 PM
I'd appreciate some help from the meglomaniacs on the board, at least while they can still think freely.

To boost the numbers in my horde of chaos, I was thinking about recruiting. To be honest, this is something I think I'll need to do anyway - most of humanity will be drooling, mindless zombies by the time I'm done with my Manchurian programming - but even so I think I'd like some company to rule over.

Now, the way I see it I have two options with a set of sub-categories, all with their up-sides and down-sides. The main categories are human or non-human, and the problems I forsee are:

HUMAN

OPTION 1: NINJAS
PROS: To be honest, I don't think you can go wrong with an army of nun-chucking, shurikiening assassins. Always good for a laugh.
CONS: Where do I get all that black for their uniforms? And surely they will just get shot from a distance? Or what if one of them in American and demands a set of dosgy sequel battles?

OPTION 2: MUTANTS
PROS: A variety of twisted spawn would be quite nice. Especially if their mutations were useful, like electric killer skin or an uncanny resemblance to Demi Moore. Or Durham Red. Or Famke Jansen in Z-Men. Or... any girl from the underwear thread.
CONS: Could be psychic and read my dirty mind.

NON-HUMAN

OPTION 1: ALIENS
PROS: Always up for a bit of world-shattering.
CONS: Not too reliable, and usually have a pathetic weakenss (gold, common cold, water)

OPTION 2: ROBOTS
PROS: Giant killer robots are always in vogue.
CONS: Too self sufficient? I don't want things going all Skynet/ Replicant on me.

Anyway, what would you suggest? I've got September's "Meglomania Monthly", and there's an ad up the back for a Venusian made killer Terminator that looks a bit like Demi Moore, only mutuated to be ten years younger. Should I just go for that?
