At Glasgow Comic Con I got the chance to film an interview with the mighty legend himself John Wagner. He gave his thoughts on the Dredd film and some very revealing insights on what went into the creation process of Day of Chaos. The Button Man film and a few other things get discussed too.

The interview can be found here:

Thanks for that, that's a great interview. Interesting how much trust John Wagner is given not telling people about the end of DoC. It put some possible explanation as to why the first post DoC stories felt out of context.

How the heck hasn't John Wagner earnt enough to retire... still from a purely selfish point of view...

Thanks for posting, Gordy. John Wagner's assertion that he now prefers writing long form stories because he has "run out of ideas" is self-depracation on an astonishing scale. Maybe he means that he's all out of one-off wacky future crime strips, but most writers would give their right arm to be able to pull off the kind of tricks he has with character and narrative in his last five years of Dredd.

When he says "ideas for novels", do you think he means the graphic kind; or can we look forward to reading his equivalent of Voice of the Fire in the near future?

Johns been saying for quite a while that he fancies writing a novel.

A first chapter written in a primitve Scot's vernacular would probably confound even Alan Moore.

Fantastic interview Gordy, thanks!  What a fascinating down-to-earth gentleman John is.  To listen to him chat about Spielberg and Button Man you'd think he was talking about someone thinking of building a bungalow in a neighbouring field.

Seems like the kind of guy who doesn't like too much attention and prefers to do his own thing. Goes to show that the writing business isn't as well paid as I thought it was. It wouldn't be the reason that he's doing the conventions gigs is it?

It was a god damn pleasure interviewing Mr Wagner. A really, really nice guy and after the filming he hung around to chat for awhile. Difficult to keep it together while talking to him - just wanted to bow down Wayne's World style ("We're not worthy! We're not worthy!").

Great interview (and I think that's the first time I've ever heard Mr. Wagner speak!)

Great stuff Gordy :) you did so much fun stuff at the con!   John's a really funny guy and has a very cool american/scottish/english accent - I hope you all have the pleasure of meeting him x
Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so.

Wow, that was a great interview and what a cool guy Mr Wagner is! Thanks for setting this up, filming it and for the link :D

Great to hear him being so positive about the Dredd film too, I know it's all been in print before but good to hear it straight from the man himself!

On a sidenote it always amazes (and pleases) me how many Scots are influential in comics!
