Okay, I know I heard this was coming out, but I can't remember when and what the trade was going to be called.  If anyone has some info, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Hi All!

I just wanted to post a link to my column, Independent Forecast, in which me and my co-writer take a look at the Previews each month for independent comics.  There's a few 2000 AD picks this month.

I'd love to know what people here think about the column.

Prog / Progs 1413 & 1414
28 November, 2004, 01:49:54 AM
Anyone else get these this past week?  Or want to comment on them again? What'cha think of them?

I enjoyed them, though I honestly can't wait for some stories to end and some new stories to begin.

Judge Dredd Total War really is losing me. The subplot with Vienna and Nimrod is the only part of this that I like. But it's gonna be 12 parts isn't it? *sigh*

Faces doesn't grab me much either. I like the art style, but the story isn't my thing. I hope it ends soon. I hope the aliens destroy the humans. They deserve it.

Lobster Random is bizarre, but readable. I'm not laughing out loud, but neither is it turning me off so much that I won't read it.

Asylum 2 is over. I'm glad I got to read the first one in back issues before this second part finished. While things make a lot more sense, now that it's over, I don't think I care for it. The war between yet another group of aliens and humans really didn't perk my interest. I'm assuming they'll do a third part, but I hope they wait a while.

Strontium Dog is the only one in these two progs that I really liked. The king is hilarious.

Oh, it took me a while to understand the Droid Life in 1413, but once I got it, it really made me laugh. The one in 1414 was cute.

Well, looking forward to the conclusion of Strontium Dog next prog. Looks like there'll be a one shot for Sinister Dexter. I hope it's not dumb...

Hey, then there'll be some more Red Seas in prog 1416. I really like what I've read of Red Seas so far in back issues. And there's also Synnamon... hmmm, never heard of it. Guess I'll have to research that one. Anyone have any opinions on it?

Prog / Progs 1411 & 1412
21 November, 2004, 01:43:04 AM
Any Americans and others get these this past week?  I finally got these on Thursday, read them last night.

Judge Dredd: Total War is losing me, I think.  I'm not sure what the point is and I'm not connecting very much to the characters.  I kinda wish it was more about Vienna having to make the decision about whether to end the freak's life or not.  That was more interesting to me than the whole terrorist thing.

I liked the end of Robo-Hunter, but I wish it was continuing.  I like Samantha Slade and I want to see more of her.  I liked the humor.  It balances out the progs.

Lobster Random annoys me like Sinister Dexter.  Some things I like, but some things just rub me the wrong way.

Asylum 2 and Strontium Dog continue to be good.  Not great, but they're keeping my interest.

Not sure about Faces.  With only 1 episode, it's hard to say whether I like it or not.  So far, I'm not that impressed.

Though I was impressed by the pin-up in the letters page in 1412.  Where can I get me a poster of that?   ;-D

And there should be two more progs this upcoming Wednesday.  I hope my comic store gets them in on time.  I rather like reading large quantities of 2000 AD at a time.

General / Marvel Sues City of Heroes video game
15 November, 2004, 12:50:22 AM
I just read about this, Marvel is suing the makers of City of Heroes because people using the game are creating characters that look and have names similar to Marvel characters.

Check out the link for the full article.

I also attached a comic strip by the great Scott Kurtz.  I love his humor and it's very apt here.

General / Favorite Dredd writer?
02 November, 2004, 11:30:16 AM
I'm just curious as to what your favorite Judge Dredd writer is and which story was your favorite by that writer.  If you can, include the prog numbers that the story ran in and what it is that you liked so much about that writer and story.

Prog / Progs 1408-1410
29 October, 2004, 01:39:00 AM
This thread is for all, er, uh, the few of us who just got these three progs yesterday or will get them soon.

I haven't gotten mine yet because I got a flat tire on the way home and by the time it was all fixed and I was on my way again, the store had already closed.  Hopefully today.

But I'm looking forward to Asylum since I finally got a chance to read the first run.  Hopefully this second story will make more sense now.  (I also thoroughly enjoyed the Red Seas in the same progs as the first Asylum, 1313-1321.)

Also, Caballistics Inc ends in 1408 and Judge Dredd: Total War starts up.  Robo-Hunter and Strontium Dog continue and in 1409, we get another Past Imperfect. I just read quite a few of those in progs 1313-1321 and I'm looking forward to another one.  1410 gives us another Future Shock, of which I haven't been very thrilled by so far.  Just not my thing.

So please post your comments, whether you're reading them for the first time or have already read them.  I'll be back with my thoughts on them once I actually get them and read them.

Prog / prog 1407
20 October, 2004, 01:20:44 AM
I just got this prog  last Wednesday and was looking for the thread on it, but couldn't find it.

Anyway, I highly enjoyed this prog.

Judge Dredd was fantastic.  I love these type of stories.  Has Toots Milloy been in any previous stories?  Anyway, looking forward to Total War next prog, which I hope comes soon!

I didn't even bother reading Caballistics Inc.  I'm so lost on what's going on. I'm going to reread the whole thing once it's completed.

I'm really enjoying Robo-Hunter with Samantha Slade.  Actually, I'm laughing my ass off at the schoolgirl robots.  Being a fan of manga, but absolutely hating Sailor Moon, it's quite fun to see these robots being destroyed.  Can't wait to see how Samantha gets herself out of this mess.

Asylum 2 is very strong.  I don't have many comments. Just to say that it's very powerful and I can't wait to see the original run collected so I can read what happened before.

Again, I love Wulf. Not like the girls in this story, but he's my favorite character.  I love his humor.  It was nice to see more into Johnny history, but since I haven't read much Strontium Dog, I'm still not so sure about his character.

And it was nice to see the conclusion to Work Experience, even though I had read it online. It's much clearer to read in print.

I won't be getting 1408 this week, but hopefully next week.  Maybe I'll get 1409 as well since they often come two at a time in the States.

Prog / Reviews of progs 1397, 1398, 1400
06 October, 2004, 01:34:02 AM
I had meant to post about these a long time ago, but forgot to.

When I first started getting 2000 AD regularly, I reviewed some issues.  I sent them to a couple of review sites and also posted them on my own website.

I had meant to continue writing reviews, but haven't had the time.  Hopefully when the stories relaunch again, I'll do another review.

Finally got to the U.S. and I have to say that I enjoyed it a lot!

I was feeling pretty down so on a whim I went to see it and it provided the relief I needed. I laughed so hard! I don't normally like zombie/horror movies, but this one will be one of my favorites for a long time.

I'm looking forward to the DVD to see if there's any cool extras like deleted scenes or outtakes.

General / 2000AD books in Previews column
15 July, 2004, 03:58:04 AM
I'm co-writing a previews column called Independent Forecast.  In July's Previews, we took a look at three 2000AD trades:
Batman/Judge Dredd Files TP
Judge Anderson: Hour of the Wolf GN
Sinister Dexter: Gunshark Vacation TPB

You can check out the column for what we had to say: http://www.herorealm.com/Editorials/IF/IFJuly04.htm

I'm looking forward to next month's Previews for more 2000AD books!

General / New Reader - ? about back issues
19 May, 2004, 10:16:03 PM
Well, as the subject says, I'm a new reader.  I just finished 1383 thru 1386.  I really enjoyed the stories.  I love anthologies, but unfortunately, there's not very many here in America.  Thankfully, a friend online told me about 2000 AD.

But I'm having to deal with a catch 22.  None of my local stores carry it because no one will buy, but then no one will buy it because they don't carry it.  So I have to special order, which I did, but even then, not all of the issues I ordered came in.

I did another special order for the next batch of issues. I put 2000 AD on my saver so hopefully my store will start getting it regularly.  Though it is quite nice reading a whole lot all at once.

So now to my question, I was wondering if anyone could recommend some back issues.  I really enjoy fantasy stories. Bec & Kawl was really funny.

I have already purchased the Halo Jones trade and the Judge Anderson Hour of the Wolf trade.  I finished Halo Jones and really enjoyed that.  Haven't gotten to Judge Anderson yet.
