Books & Comics / JD CASE FILES
25 April, 2008, 11:02:24 PM
Just a quick question guys.

I am collecting all the case files but I was just wondering:  are the case files going to be printed in colour just like the originals were and how long do the case files intend to run to?

Games / XBOX 360 :-(

As I was happily kicking ass on Call of Duty 4 last night My xbox decides its had enough of this whole playing games malarky and decides to give me a little celebration of colour instead.  Unfortunatly for me this display of red colour means death!

Yes thats right I have just received the ring of death days before the mighty GTAIV is released.  To say I'm not happy with Billy Gates at the moment is an understatment.  So i phoned him and he is picking i up on monday for 2-4 week holiday.........what am I going to do? Talk to the girlfriend??

hmmmm where are those comics...

Judging by the lack of replies I get on my posts I am assuming you all know I'm a newbie, lol thats not a problem guys and my interest in the comics has started to grip me again like it once did in the early 90's.  I just wanted some info.

You all say zenith is great but very rare and will never be reprinted..........so whats the reason for this o'great ones?

Books & Comics / Thrill Power
28 October, 2007, 05:03:41 PM
Well after much diliberation (and advice from you guys) I dumped the idea of Spawn comics!
(and a good half hour waiting for someone to actually come to the info desk at Borders.........to then tell me they didn't have JD case files 4..........)

I plumped for Strontium Dog Search/destroy files 1 and Nemisis the Warlock Vol.1.

Will this be enough thrill power do you think?  Seeing as I am pretty much a virgin to both stories.....hope I'm not dissapointed!

ALSO can I just say Borders charge full rrp on comic/sci fi GN's and then cram them all in to a tiny space together!  Half of the books on the shelf were either dog eared, scratched or bent around other books. I had to go scavenging for a good copy of SD. Its a disgrace, but if you go to play/amazon etc.... the books come straight from a warehouse and touch (probably) a maximum of 1 persons hands until the book is in your hands and you also save about 30+ bloody percent on each book!!!! Fair enough you have to wait a day or too but I won't be buying any of my rising collection from a shop again!...........*lie* maybe Forbidden Planet

Books & Comics / Spawn
24 October, 2007, 01:36:56 AM
Got a couple of spawn comics given to me when I was young and enjoyed them so decided to look up some reprints.  Was just in the process of buying a couple of the reprints in the "collection" series!  Was just about to purchase v.1 and noticed that issues 9 and 10 do not feature, does anybody know why?

My knowledge isn't huge on spawn as I was too young but wondered if anybody knew!

How far are the case files going to run too?  We are at number 9 now!  I have the first 3 and was wondering if (apart from the burger wars issues 71-71 77-78) there are any stories that will not be printed in the case files?

Books & Comics / Banned Issue Advice

Really interested again in adding to my 2000ad collection and I was wondering what I would expect to pay for issues 71-72, 77-78 of 2000ad.  I know these are the rarest 2000ad's you can get but they come up now and again and I just wanna know what is reasonable.

General / I'm a smelly n00b

Hey everyone,

I have been interested in 2000ad since the 1990's but my interest wained during my late teens as it does, so I am very much behind on my reading and I would like some guidance on reading material!  I have a near full collection of Megs and thought this would be a good thing but I have been reading on here recently that it is second rate when it comes to 2000ad.

Even though I do own 600-700 2000ad's, most of them are scattered collections off of ebay in my desperate bid a few years ago to have them all, and as such were not read. Obviously I read the ones I was buying in the 90's on a weekly basis (hence my love of sinister Dexter) but I am a little bit weird on that front as I hate starting things half way thru.........So I  gave up.

What I need now is inspiration from you hardened fans.  I am buying all the case files of Judge dredd and Strontium Dog in due course but I am interested in buying into more characters as they seem to be hugely popular on here.  I enjoyed Sinister Dexter a lot so i am open to everything.  I didn't like Nikolai Dante but I have heard good things about Slaine........and ABC warriors looks amazing!  So guidance on building collections (which graphic novels to start with, chronological order etc..) of new characters and inspiration on new thrills that I have missed out on would be greatly appreciated.

Books & Comics / n00b collector
17 October, 2007, 04:38:16 AM
Hey guys,

Been trying my best to buy up lots of 2000ads, megs etc...

I recently bought a full collection of megs from Mr Bishop and happily reading through them.  I have hundreds of 2000ad's but it was getting somewhat hard and expensive to get a proper collection so I stopped!

I was very happy when I seen the Case Files coming and have started buying these at 3 a month.

But what I want to know is if there is anything I will be missing out on. I am also going to buy the Strontium Dog case files aswell but I just need to know if there is any "epics" I should be buying that will not be in the case files or the megs etc...that is essential to the time line.

sorry for being a n00b!

I'm wanting to but all the Judge Dredd case files, but I want to know is if it would be worth paying the extra few quid for the harbacks instead of the paperbacks from a collection point of view.

Hi guys, Just thought I would introduce myself and get some much needed advice from you guys.

I have always wanted to collect all of the 2000ad comics since I was introduced to the whole universe (clever marketing ploy by the publishers to pull some younger readers in) by the release Judge Dredd : Lawman of the Future and obviously the famous advert.  I have all of these stashed away somewhere.

Ever since then I was hooked and picked up my first 2000ad comic which was (I think) Judge dredd Classics.  It was the story of Chopper and it was absolutely amazing.

So in the early/mid 90's I religiously spent the little money I had on 2000ad comics. My favourites of the time for me were Judge Dredd and Sinister Dexter.  The most embarrasing moment was getting my dad to go into Forbidden Planet for me to buy the "sex" issue which was hugely forgetable and not worthy of the embarrasment when the shopkeeper told my dad about what he was buying.

Anyway last year I was a subscriber of both 2000ad and the megazine, I found the 2000ad a bit hit and miss but I do love the megazines.  My subscription has stopped but I recently acquired a full personal collection of Judge Dredd megazines from former editor David Bishop.  I pick these up tomorrow.

I also have a few graphic novels such as the Pit which i found fantastic and I have over 700 copies of 2000ad with one of the earliest being around the number 40 mark but the bulk of them start at about the 500's and are broken till the most recent issues.

I am very confused and I need a little guidance from you hardened fans. I would like to have the whole background and stories of Judge Dredd as a start but when browsing the forums I find a lot of debate about the dredd stories being published in a muddled up way and I need to know what the best way to collect them would be. I recently seen the case files novels, will these be reprinting all of the stories?

I would of course like to have all 2000ad's but this is some way away.

Obviously 2000ad provides most of the stories i need but what does the megazine and Extreme comics give me. I am of course going to keep up my collection of the megazines but are the extreme editions essential?

I do apologise if this size of thread is not the norm.

John
