General / You'll believe a pig can fly
« on: 03 March, 2006, 04:26:25 PM »
Possibly the strangest thing I've seen in a long time, courtesy of wfmu.org.  I think this is worthy of a horribly off-topic caption competition, so jump to it.  Most entertaining entry by Monday wins (a) a lifetime supply of eggy-in-a-basket or (b) whatever random tat I happen to have lying around the place.

Film & TV / Art School Confidential
« on: 24 February, 2006, 06:18:48 PM »
There's a trailer up for the new Dan Clowes / Terry Zwigoff (Ghost World, Bad Santa) movie.  Looks interesting, if a little different to the original story (which I seem to remember mainly just laid into art-school sterotypes) through the addition of a romantic sub-plot.  I wonder if it will ever get to Norway?

Off Topic / The poodle has landed
« on: 15 December, 2005, 01:46:17 AM »
Apologies in advance, but it's time for some winter cheer.

Yes, it's time for 'the poodle game'.  Substitute one word from the title of a film (or films) of your choosing with the word POODLE.  Why?  Does there have to be a reason for everything?

My all time favourites:
My Big Fat Greek Poodle
Das Poodle

Does anyone have any news about this?  Rufus?  Anyone?  To say I'm eagerly awaiting this is a bit of an understatement...

General / Giant scorpions (Flesh book II) in the news
« on: 01 December, 2005, 05:33:26 PM »
Well I always thought the giant underwater scorpions in Flesh were just stuff and nonsense, but then I read the article linked below, and now I'm converted.  I'm expecting someone to dig up big hungry and / or a one eyed tyrannosaur any day now...

Shakara! - sorry, wrong strip - I meant Aiiiieeeee!!!

Off Topic / Star Wars: Lost in translation
« on: 28 July, 2005, 03:28:11 AM »
...and here is an entertaining crop of lines from Star Wars translated into Chinese and then back into English for a dodgy pirate DVD.

I particularly like "I was just made by the Presbyterian Church"

This reminds me of an old list of subtitles from Kung Fu flicks, including something along the lines of "Ya-hah - Evil Spider Woman, I have you now by the short rabbits"

Film & TV / My Life as a Dalek
« on: 27 April, 2005, 12:36:05 AM »
I just listened to this BBC radio thing, and thought it may interest some folks here...  Lots of funny snippets about the origins and history of those scary dustbin things; enjoy!

p.s. Does anyone have a copy of the Dalek Christmas song?

I saw this and just kept wondering where Captain Haddock was.

If Ed's lurking, he might like this.

Anyone else picked this up?

Geoff Darrow's other stuff is great (Hard Boiled, Big Guy and Rusty the Robot), and this looks like more of the same!  Can we get him on Dredd, please?

General / GAME: 2000ad character asassination
« on: 09 November, 2004, 02:02:38 AM »
Having mis-read Larf's thread title, I give you this one.

I'll start.

Rogue Trooper
Well, he has a flying, talking hat and the ability to disco dance like nobody's business.  These are his good points.  A lone crusader in search of the Traitor General?  Billy no-mates, more like.

Strontium Dog Day Afternoon

Johnny Alpha and two accomplices are besieged in a bank after his attempt to steal enough money to pay for his male lover's sex change operation goes awry.

Any others?
