I, Cosh

Sad news.

An overused word, but this is a case where it is justified: he was unique and we shan't see his like again.
We never really die.

El Spurioso

I hate to admit this, because it's probably demonstrating my general state of ignorance, but up until about 2 months ago I hadn't even heard of Ivor Cutler.  Then there was a documentary all about him on Radio 4 (halfway through a long drive between somewhere and somewhere), and I was instantly hooked.  Quirky, papercut-sharp and wonderfully morose.  And yes, unique.

The sort of guy more of us should know More About... but don't.

Marbles

I got into Ivor Cutler years ago when I used to listen to John Peel regularly. Very funny, very dark, very weird poetry. Typical Scots loony in fact.

I'd highly recommend listening to next Sunday evenings Andy Kershaw Radio 3 show (its on at 10.15pm or something, I use the internet 'listen again' feature) as  I know Andy is a huge Ivor Cutler fan & I'd be very surprised if Sunday's show doesn't have a very warm tribute.

Aw, shit. This is a real downer, the guy was great and really underrated (mad as a box of frogs, though).

That's a shame he was great on stage there should be more like him, John Peel was a great fan I seem to remember

I remember listening to Ivor Cutler on John Peel's show as a lad. I'd just got my first radio, and I vividly remember hiding under the duvet late at night listening to those strange, disturbing yet warm stories. His humour, wisdom and love of language is something that's stayed with me ever since. Like Peel, he's one of those people I sort of assumed would just always be around, and it's very sad to hear of his passing.
