Buddy

Something like this:
http://vectormagic.com/home

It won't let me save the files for some reason so an alternative would be appreciated.

Can't seem to find anything similar, hoping someone with more experience than me can help out.

I always used Inkscape for that sort of thing but haven't tried it in the last couple of years. It's available for all the platforms: http://en.dev.inkscape.org/download/ but I only ever used it in linux

Plenty of tutorials on how to do a raster to vector conversion using it like this one: http://www.ehow.co.uk/how_4421430_convert-jpeg-vector-image.html - it's not hard

Always worked brilliantly for me

Inskscape in general is a brilliant piece of software.  I'm ashamed that I don't use it for vector work as often as I should, mainly because I'm just that bit faster with certain commercial packages, and time always seems to be an issue.  Self-perpetuating problem, obviously.  But it should certainly do what Buddy wants pretty simply.

Probably overkill but you could download a free trial of Illustrator, which contains a trace tool.
