Awesome. Looking forward to laughing at the weiners who find Smith "pretentious".

Love Edmund Bagwell's stuff, and always up for a bit of John Smith (who doesn't always deliver on his potential but whose hits generally outweigh the misses.)

Actually, I'm really excited about all the imminent new lineup - Dante, Zombo, Savage and Cradlegrave...? Yes please!

Looks like a great strip but how about that trailer huh! Is this the first time 2000ad has done one of these 'animated' trailers? If so great job. If not where have I been missing them?

glad you like, I did a few with the help of some audio guys a while back, but wanted to change the angle slightly so they would end up more like music vids promoting the strip. Sooo, this time around I sorted the anim stuff out and then went and worked with Top Bloke "Mechanoise" in the audio dept. We hope to keep doing them every month-6 weeks / as-and-when :)

That looks great!  I'd like to see more.  Can these be shared/embedded?  I'd love to place it on my LJ.

I have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player, and can't see anyimage, just a black screen and the controls, which don't work.

There was a full page teaser or whatever you call it at the back of the prog a year ago at least and then nothing......until now.

I was going to enquire if anyone else knew anything about it.No need to do that now.

It works fine in Internet Explorer, couldn't get it to work in FireFox.

Can't really offer any help. It didn't work on my laptop on the bus, but I can see it fine on my home PC. Both using Firefox.

Looks good.

Origins had one 2 and another supernatural series I can't remember the name of.

Chiaroscuro, and a great little tale it was too. More self-contained stuff, Tharg!

To the guys having a bit of a struggle try getting the latest quicktime. If it still doesn't work you can grab a copy at:
//http://www.2000adonline.com/trailers/cradlegrave/cradlegrave.mp4

You can do an embedded link direct to the above player should you wish by doing:
http://www.2000adonline.com/trailers/cr ... player.swf (http://www.2000adonline.com/trailers/cradlegrave/player.swf) (it's 640x480)

If you have a prob with embedding it then give me a shout and I'll do a version that's perhaps more compatible with external sites - wasn't going for that, but don't mind

My web-fu worked and I embedded it.  Just a little small, though.  That's seriously awesome, I hope the NewsaPulsaResources sites show it off.

For the record this worked fine for me using FireFox - a little too well: the autoplaying did make me jump slightly (got me again when it popped up in topic review area below the reply).

Great to see John Smith back - I feel we really need more from him and good to see Edmund Bagwell get his first full series, I'll be looking forward to this as I suspect, as intriguing as the trailer is, the series is going to turn it up more than a couple of notches.

How about a 2000 AD channel on YouTube? Let it go viral. It'd also make it easier for some of the online comics press to pick up on, as we do really want to Spread the Faith!!

It appears to be working for me today.

I haven't changed any of my settings, so I have no idea why it works today, but not yesterday.

Edit: No it isn't The play button is there, but nothing happens. The MP4 version works fine for me though.

Great trailer, great idea, hopefully a great strip.

It played for me ok in Firefox, had a big 'play' symbol in the middle just like a 'gentleman's video' *cough* or so I'm told. I do have the NoScript add-on but I allow scripts from this site or it all goes mental.

Does anyone know what the old woman is infected with ?

Its even an assumption that she is infected with something but she looks to slowly be mutating each week unless iam imagining it.

Quite honestly i have no clue because the script doesnt tell you anything and its not unreasonable to have this at least partly explained.

Also why is it that she doesnt seem to provoke extreme reactions when she is seen for the first time by anyone ?

Why is the old man sheltering her or hiding her ?

I guess it was/is his wife and i also guess that she wasnt slowly turning into plant when he married her.

It wasnt made clear why some of the characters were suckling from her either and the fact that the characters seem to take all this in their stride is surprising as if its all normal to them.

Theres far too many unanswered questions in this story and its like you are dropped into the story and left guessing the whole time.

Well... yeah. Isn't that how most fiction works up until the climactic moments?

Not necessarily no.It doesnt resolve itself until the end but sometimes you get clues along the way.

Anyway whatever.
All will be revealed on wednesday.
Its been enjoyable but i was expecting this strip to run for a bit longer than it has.

Post by: Peter Wolf on 29 June, 2009, 09:03:05 PM
Seems like Cradlegrave does not end next week.No idea where i got that idea from.

Never mind.

I suppose i am half expecting clues because i am expecting the strip to end very soon because strips in the prog seem to run for a roughly set period of time.

Given the slow pace of this strip [which i am all in favor of BTW] what has been revealed so far is fine and as you would expect if you were reading a book for example but i cant help but expect all my loose ends to be tied up in one or 2  more progs because there is another strip waiting in the wings.

I think that Cradlegrave has been a slow burner but has picked up fans along the way who have the patience for it and really at the pace it is running at i would expect it to run for another 3 months at least and would be very happy if it did.

Other than that we will have to wait and see because unlike a book you never know you are at the end of a strip until you get there.

Peter- the old man is harbouring her because she is his wife- it's evident from the story as the main characters have been known to the couple since they were really young.
They (at least) believe she has cancer, but she won't go to the hospital as she is afraid of dying in there- very common with old folks who know they are going to  die- they want to do it at home.

Whilst it's fairly obvious to us that she is afflicted with something more than cancer, he was obviously in denial and believed he could cope.

All of this has been made reasonably clear in the story- go back and read it all so far in a oner- just to refresh before the final part.
You won't be disappointed- it really is a cracker of a story.

Also, for w3bz, out of interest:
Can you reveal which software you use to make these trailers?
We do some band vids for oor youtube channel using Nero vision and Ulead. I only have a little experience at this as a former band member used to do it, but now I'm having to learn.

Finished Cradlegrave yesterday. One of the best strips I've ever read.
It reminded me of a Stephen King story called Gray Matter, where a man slowly mutates into some kind of amoeba.
I actually like the fact that you never find out just what the hell is wrong with her. Maybe it was the embodiment of all the negative feelings on the estate.
Or maybe it was one of H.P Lovecrafts Old Ones.
Loved the idea of a trailer for it. Hope to see more of those to come!

You're right Comrade! I had forgotten about that story - which was also similar to a short tale by Arthur Machen called "The White Powder". I can't recall if King said this was an influence on his story...

Never as it stands - Robo Keef says the page count isn't high enough and John Smith says that is it (at least until Tharg starts whispering of secret delights in his ear again and tempting him to brush the dust off). I did quickly brainstorm (http://www.2000adonline.com/forum/index.php/topic,29085.msg525763.html#msg525763) up some ideas for a Cradlegrave sequel though, which demonstrated to me that there are hanging threads which could be picked up and developed, so never say never.

You know, If i were going to make a really self-serving suggestion I'd point out that there's a whole bunch of Edmund Bagwell 5 pagers that could bring the page count up... not with John Smioth on writing duty though.
