Off Topic / Norton...NOT SMASH!
12 July, 2010, 03:14:41 PM
Oh dear. Ed Norton's not happy. He's been dropped from the new Avengers film in favour of Joaquin Phoenix.

This also gives me a opportunity to repost this:

Here's some bits from mine...

30 October, 2009, 02:52:21 PM
Just noticed that the picture of Zirk I had as an avatar has mysteriously disappeared. Any way of getting it back or will I have to try to find the pic and upload it again?

Cheers

Help! / Hivemind Image Request - Prog 473 Cover
08 June, 2009, 03:51:01 PM
As some of you would've seen in the 30th Anniversary Prog, Brendan McCarthy's cover for 473 is my all time favourite (as well as the lovely Malchi's). I'm wanting to have a lovely print in at least A3 of this for the wall (or even one of those huge canvas jobs), but scanning direct from the bog roll will only give really shitty results (awful pun intended, I'm afraid).

Does anyone know if there's a black line only version of this printed anywhere, that I can scan at high res and attempt the ridiculously hard job of recolouring to match the original? Even better would be if some lovely person at the House of Tharg could email me a high res version taken from the black film. ;)

Needless to say, this is just for a one-off for mine and Malchi's enjoyment alone.

Just received my latest MyFonts newsletter and it links to a nice little interview with ex-droid Rian Hughes.

Anyone else not liking the sound of this? As much as I'm not a Microsoft hater, I don't fancy everything I do on my computer in their hands.

It's not very often that reading something online gives me a fuzzy glow of happiness inside.

This is one of them. :)

Help! / Another Mac problem.
20 August, 2008, 10:22:48 AM
Booted up my work Mac this morning and something bizarre seems to have happened. Desktop, Mail & Dock have all been reset to default. I've also lost everthing in the address book and the entire contents of the Documents folder. I've got the mail sorted out, but really need to get the documents folder back if possible (it's got my job database in it). Any ideas, seasoned Mac users? I've no idea at all why this has happened.

And yes, I *am* a nobend for not making backups.

Cheers, chaps.

The proposed cull of my favourite wild animal has thankfully been rejected. This summer's otter farming will still be going ahead, though.

Film & TV / Best British Film of All Time...
30 June, 2008, 01:01:00 PM
...is apparently Four Weddings and a Funeral. [spits] The people who voted probably watch Loose Women religiously every day.

I refuse to acknowledge a 'Best British Film' that doesn't have Patrick Magee in.

Events / Après Bristol 2008
11 May, 2008, 09:52:02 PM
Well I made it home, albeit with a knackered back and an empty wallet, thanks mainly to the Ramada bar. A fantastic weekend and I evena managed not to start any fight. Great to see old faces again and meet new ones (props to Dankell and his incredibly smiley gf).

Far too many moments to list all at once, although the 2000ad panel was a definite highlight. Another brief one this morning involved a very strange, very short man stopping me to ask where I got my Doomlord t-shirt from, then just staring at me. I hope to god it wasn't a messageboarder. :s

Only really low point was the Eagle Awards. Panini Spider-Man reprints 'Best British Comic'? Fuck off.

It's that time of year again, and time to wish the most gorgeous messageboarder very, VERY many happy returns.

Happy Birthday Malchidiel, you dirty, sexy bitch!

Film & TV / Dave Grohl sues Marvel
22 February, 2008, 09:21:39 AM
Marvel have been naughty and nicked some Foo Fighters songs for their new X-Men cartoon and they're now being rightfully sued. What's the betting that Marvel will attempt to play the "we're the big boys" card again and try to completely destroy Roswell Records?

Events / Bristol Comic Expo 2008
14 January, 2008, 04:10:47 PM
Booked the hotel and bought the tickets today, so decided it may be time to start a thread.

Roll call! Who's going? Who's flogging their wares? Who's getting the beers in? Who's sharing a room with someone they hardly know and will stay awake all weekend in case they're Rohypnolled and horribly defiled?

The Expo site's a bit bare at the mo, but it's got the information and contact details for booking into the Ramada at a reduced rate and you can buy tickets for the Saturday and Sunday through the wonder of Paypal.

Guests confirmed so far are:

Jim Shooter
Walt and Louise Simonson
Yanick Paquette
Mike Carey
Alan Davis
Mark Buckingham
Mark Farmer
Mike Ploog
John Burns
Liam Sharp

Books & Comics / Jeff Hawke - Overlord
20 December, 2007, 11:21:38 PM
This has *finally* got a reprint. The page count is slightly higher than the old Titan version but I've no idea what extra content it may contain. It's set for a February release, is hardbacked and touted as £13.59 on Amazon. Let's hope that this is swiftly followed by at *least* a reprint of The Ambassadors.

General / One pound, creep!
27 November, 2007, 03:27:43 PM
Frequenter of such high class emporiums that I am, I've just noticed that the PC version of Dredd vs Death is being sold in Poundland, so now's the chance to grab it for a pittance if you weren't one of those (like me) that shelled out 35 quid for it on the day it was released.

General / A hero for Leicester!
26 October, 2007, 11:51:30 PM
Taken from Down the Tubes:

Metropolis has Superman. Gotham has Batman. New York has Spiderman. Leicester needs a superhero and Leicester Libraries want you to create them!
As part of Blam!, its season celebrating manga and graphic novels, Leicester Libraries is inviting budding comic book artists and writers to create a short comic strip introducing a new superhero for Leicester. What powers would a Leicester superhero have? Do they need the protection of a secret identity? Do they fight crime, or maybe they are a supervillain! Let your imagination run wild!
You can use any style and techniques you want to create your comic, but your final entry must be no more than four A4 pages in size. The best entries will be judged by a panel of comics industry professionals.

Rules
â?¢ All entries must be a maximum of four pages, size A4, printed on one side of the paper only.
â?¢ Enclose an stamped SAE so we can contact you easily.
â?¢ DO NOT SEND ORIGINAL MATERIAL. Send us a good quality photocopy or print.
â?¢ Closing date: 11th January 2008

If you're looking for inspiration, we can tell you Leicester has a population of over 285,000, is the largest city in the East Midlands and the tenth largest in the country and one of the oldest cities in England. It was the capital of the local Celtic tribe, the Coriletavi and its importance was recognised by the Romans and later by the Danes, who used it as a strategic stronghold to control the Midlands. Since then it has developed into a major commercial and manufacturing centre, known better for the diversity of its trade than for its dependence on a single industry.

Judges for the competition are to be confirmed but the the winning entry will be published on the Leicester Libraries website and the author will win a selection of graphic novels.
Send your entries to Damien Walter, Literature Development Officer, New Walk Centre, Welford Place LE1 6ZG.
â?¢ Leicester's upcoming graphic novel events include appearances by top artist Bryan Talbot, 2000AD editor Matt Smtih and downthetubes John Freeman.

A search on Play.com for 'Batman' has just given me this scary image in the results. What the fuck?!
