Fargo is incredible.

The Alien TV series just intrigue me so much, because Hawley is a genius at character and grim comedy.

Mr Inbetween - slow, slow burn Aussie crime drama with a dose of comedy as a Hitman negotiates the underworld and caring for his Daughter and Terminally ill brother, with Nicholas Cassim putting in an absolutely stunning performance as a man ravaged by MND. Three seasons and done, and going out on a high.

Malignant.

Christ, I don't know where to start, I can't tell you even if I enjoyed it, or hated it. It is such a mishmash in terms of storytelling, direction.

There are genuinely fantastic bits, but equally bits that make you wonder if there weren't two or three writers and directors having a day about on set.

This morning I dreamt I was watching an advertisement from the 1980s for an expensive afftershave named after a character from a popular British soap opera of the time. The actor who played the part appeared within the advert, being fawned over by a sophisticated 1980s lady. I've now recreated the last frame of the dream advert pretty accurately. It looked like this...

I want it for Christmas. Smells of woollen cap.

My brother was in the Royal Air Force and was stationed in Port Stanley just after the end of the Falklands war. They used to refer to the locals as "Bennys" because of the Crossroads character.

An edict cam from on high that this was insulting to the islanders and had to stop.

Which it did - and thereafter the islanders were referred to as "Stills".

When pulled up one day by a superior officer as to what this meant, the reply was; "Well, we can't refer to them as such but they are STILL f@#$ing Bennys".

Brilliant

Ferris Bueller's Day Off
I'm running out of ideas for films to watch.  I don't really know what I'm in the mood for.  That usually means something light, dumb, but fun and entertaining... and that I haven't watched within the last year.  Or science fiction.  I may have to do some research.  I'm tempted to rewatched Hardcore Henry soon.  Only seen it once before.

Some recent(ish) Hidden(ish) Gems I'd recommend:

Dolemite is My Name
Cop Car
American Animals
Anna & the Apocalypse
The Kid Who Would Be King

I'd also recommend the new HBO documentary about Tiger Woods. I couldn't care less about golf, but I found it riveting.

Cop Car an underrated gem of a movie, with a great performance from the two kids, and a wonderful, malevolent Kevin Bacon.

Whoever caught this, and thought that the Director would be perfect for Spider-man should be applauded.

Deplatforming doesn't work, they said.

Be great if a few other serious arseholes could receive the same treatment.

At this stage, Trump is apparently floating the idea of starting his own party, purely for the grift, and the thought that he would decimate the Republican membership is hilarious. Everything Trump touches Dies.

Some lovely, comic moments from Bill Paxton and Jamie-lee Curtis, who steal the movie and even Tom Arnold is sufferable for the most part. That soundtrack is a bit bloody good as well.
We re-watched that over the weekend! It's one we go back to often, just an absurdly entertaining film with both Arnie and Bill Paxton on top form. Act 2 is weird and kind of problematic, but it also has all the best lines.

Bill Paxton is just brilliant in it. Unreal to think that Bill Paxton is no longer with us, because he brought so much charisma to every role he played.

That bit with the Horse on the rooftop always terrifies me, for some reason.

Recently watched Frailty, one of the few movies Bill Paxton directed, and it is an astonishing wee movie with a great Matthew McConaughey performance, and a lovely script that keeps you on your toes.

Psycho 2 - Haven't seen this since it was shown late, way back in my childhood, one night on the BBC. A very good sequel, with a brilliant premise and some absolutely lovely moments played by Anthony Perkins as he slowly begins to lose his grip on reality. Loved the fact that all is not what it seems, and it is all played very effectively, and with a lot of humour. And I'm a sucker for any movie with Robert Loggia.

I saw this before I did the original a very, very long time ago.  I remember liking it.  If I recall correctly it was quite the tragic film.

... I don't think it's even close to the levels of something like Vampires Kiss.

Adding that one to the watch-list,  so!

That sounds like a great idea :D  It is a tour de force of Nicholas Cagery.

Tragic is the word. Great movie, which will have you screaming at the screen.

It's an absolute blight and I'd sooner be without it. Facebook is only useful for the messenger function which is better than most text based alternatives.

Cheers lads, sorry to grumble over so little.

The DC movies thus far have been dreadful

I thought Aquaman was as dumb as a box of rocks, but knew it and managed to be quite a lot of fun as a result. And Shazam was great.

I can't agree with Aquaman, though I think Jason Mamoa was great casting, but Shazam is just bloody brilliant. Great casting, a lovely, emotional script that hits the mark and some great comedy.

Had completely forgotten about it, and must add that to the list for a re-watch.

I was able to reach back in here and send those PDFs (about conspiratorial vs. conventional thinking, and another one about how to get scientific information out through the noise) over to my F-I-L - the ones that shaolin_monkey shared a while back.

Maybe that'll help a bit.

Can you post a link to that for me too? A lot of people I know could benefit.

Although it should be noted that these documents vibrate at a frequency designed to attune your mind to the synaptic pulses of the star gods of Sirius.

Fantastic stuff, Funt.

I'll be forwarding these to a few friends and family, as well as maybe leaving a few at our Reception Desk in work. Be as helpful for some of the staff, never mind the customers.

Will Wheaton was on the Kingcast Podcast recently, and they discussed this very thing, the pressure, how his Family life was an absolute mess. Really good interview, and he came across very well. Considering his Parents, it is probably a minor miracle he is still with us.

As for Trek, precocious kids should always be blown out of airlocks.

I really enjoyed Winder Woman, the best of a not terribly good bunch of DC movies, but I'm dreading the watch now considering reviews I've read, and opinion on here.

The DC movies thus far have been dreadful, which is a shame, because with the characters and stories they have to mine, the movies they've come up with have completely missed the Mark with strange character choices, terrible CGI and scripting, and Zach Snyder treating Superman like some sub PS2 gritty hero/Avenger.

At this stage, they need a miracle to turn these movies around. I'm just perplexed as to why they didn't just give James Gunn free reign on all the characters and scripting. At least his movies have heart and emotion.

Good man, Eamonn, you're one of the best.

Here, however, is one of the worst, a literal waste of oxygen deservedly being torn to shreds. https://www.thepoke.co.uk/2021/01/16/laurence-fox-has-got-himself-a-mask-exempt-badge-7-responses/

Awful. I just don't get what somebody is thinking when they get on like this. Contrarian to the end. More worrying as well to see the number of people jumping in to defend him.
