COMMANDO FORCES

Issue two comes with just the two covers this time!

Regular Cover:- Glenn Fabry with digital painting by Ryan Brown
Subscription Cover:- James Stokoe

Forgot to add this bit on issue one, oops :-[

Writer - Brian Ruckley
Artist - Alberto Ponticelli
Colourist - Stephen Downer
Letterer - Tom B Long

Another enjoyable read, with more info laid out for the reader, which is excellently done by the writer, so as not to hammer anything home. There are some small bits that are the norm in films nowadays though, like the descent line by Klopski but hey, it all adds to the fun.

BreakerVirgin takes Rogue to Strongpoint Charlie (think part of the Maginot Line), where we are introduced to the Southers who man this piece of crap against the Norts. There are some nice introductions and we see Rogue's reaction to when he finds out what his nickname is and so the Bio-chips take the piss, as you do!

We then move onto Buzzard 1 and find out a bit more about the team hunting him down and there's conflict up there about if he should be taken dead or alive.

By now it's night and Rogue has decided to sleep outside but he's disturbed by a fly, which is a Slaved Organic Recon Drone. This is a lovely sequence and introduces more tech into the world. This shows that there are Norts out there moving in to take down this area of Southers. Rogue warns the team in the strongpoint and they prepare for the fight ahead. Rogue then goes back outside and lays in wait for the Norts and then it all kicks off.

I absolutely loved this, military stuff and small points aside, it is hugely entertaining and the action sequences are drawn beautifully. We get mag changes  tactical flare usage, superb aiming by Gunnar, etc...

P.S. We get to see inside of Bagman ;)

I think the military aspect is spot on in this series- kudos to Brian Ruckley for an engaging, enjoyable read.
Best Rogue in decades.

Moggot Lover

#2 popped through my letter box on Monday, but only got round to reading last night. Really liking this outing of Rogue. I like the humour and as some has mentioned 'tech'. Long may it continue :-)
"We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We're evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go." --Col. Tigh. BSG.

SmallBlueThing

Not bad at all- despite glaring usage of "fuck" and the (to my eyes) silliness of his new helmet, I enjoyed this. And, I went against all I hold dear and preordered #3 and #4 in a last-minute effort to boost the numbers. But I assume the damage has already been done. It's a good read, anyway- certainly one of the better of IDW's 2000AD comics.

Magnetica

I am actually liking this.

Way better than any of the IDW Dredds and I include Mars Attacks, Mega City 2 and Year One in that.

I don't mind the redesign of Helm (and Bagman) either, but one thing I think is odd is the depiction of Helm on the front cover (I will say at this point Fabry is probably in my top two 2000AD artist of all time - or there abouts) given it is drawn as per the original 2000Ad strip (and I not complaining I just think it is a bit strange that's all)

I wonder why that is? Presumably it is a timing thing i.e. they did not have time to give Glenn a view of the redesign or is it something else?

Does anyone know?

Pretty much what you've said re: timing.
One small chink in what is otherwise a very good comic. I have been working alongside the IDW editor on Rogue and had a lot of fun seeing this come together. I'd encourage all squax to check it out.

I couldn't agree more Robo-K33F, absolutely loving the series and can't wait to pick up #3!
Can you shed any light on whether the series will go beyond #4? It'll be a real shame if it's discontinued after that, it's one of the best IDW/2000AD collaborations yet in my opinion.

Just got my review copy of Issue 3 and it won't open... (it is a watermarked pdf not a glued up paper copy...).

Frustrating... I have read the first 7 Preview pages and it's looking good.

Ok while writing this I opened it! Embargoed till Tuesday so I read now, write my Preview over the weekend & auto-publish Tuesday at 13:00 on my Blog.

Now... page 8 I believe I was wanting.
