Prog / Re: Prog 2219 - Stand and Deliver
14 February, 2021, 10:40:00 AM
Yet again - no Prog - if it turns up on Monday - I will be delighted

Post has been a nightmare - sent on Monday a letter 1st Class Recorded down south and by Saturday
it still hasn't arrived !

First review for the Prog since the turn of the year - been a nightmare with work in the Operating Theatre
( wearing the PPE takes it out of you , its so bloody hot - and its like being on Nu Earth  )
in Edinburgh taking a lot of my energy , so when the Prog has arrived weeks late or
not until the end of the week ( I am a Subscriber ) just not had the time or energy to review the Prog
- on the plus side the Prog has been great for me , for morale .

Dredd
- jst a sheer delight , as others have said , Dan Cornwell is a fabulous artist
( I spotted him in the 1st issue of Rok of the Reds )

Durham Red
- really good , above average story , with great art - good story as well

Proteus Vex
- simply fantastic , great art which has picked up from Henry Flint and run with it -
the reveal at the end - leaves a nice cliff-hanger .

Slaine - Pat Mills story has been pretty good , with the undertones to the present day
and I like the art .  I understand its not to all tastes , but its miles better than THE ORDER

I just wish ABC Warriors would come out next .

Hershey
- I have really , really enjoyed the second series - great art and tension building up - also the flashbacks in Hershey .  This is great story telling and then we get to see a different Dirty Frank.

so overall 5 out of 5 ( and I did love the Front Cover )

My Prog supply was a nightmare in December and part of January - Xmas Post - what can you expect

General / Re: Prog drought!
24 December, 2020, 02:25:09 PM

So far this month - No
Prog 2211 or the Xmas Prog 2212 -
my Prog's have been arriving over a week later for over two months mostly
I ordered the Xmas Misty 2020 and Dredd Year Three new book by Lauren Sills -
both arrived yesterday - thankfully both are Xmas Presents ( first one for a young kid -
second for me )

I was also informed the Trigan Empire Volume 2 was shipped late - probably arrive next month

I appreciate its not Rebellions fault - but might be a good idea not to release them right at the end of December in future - in case this happens again ( down a Xmas Present )
eg can they release the Hellman of Hammer Force edition in late November 2021 ??

No sign ( for second time - last issue 2211 has never appeared at all ) of this Xmas Prog
so no new Strontium Dog for me to read !

The Postal delays are really biting - very disappointed - doubt I will get my 2 missing copies before
Thursday 24th - I realise its not Rebellion's Fault , however .

Had to contact the Oxford Studio today and ask for a replacement for both copies

Prog / Re: Prog 2199 - Death Becomes Him!
15 September, 2020, 07:20:35 PM

Just received my copy ( still not read at 7pm tonight ) - arrived 3 days late

BATTLE 2020 BATTLE OF BRITAIN SPECIAL arrived yesterday - its pretty good - a couple of woeful stories
and one WOKE Story , the rest of them had me back to the 1970's and early 1980's !!

I got in the post , the new Rebellion & Treasury of British Comics special.
The Battle of Britain Special 2020
yesterday - and it really was a big treat ( I read the original from issue 1 )
The first story was a real joy - The Tough Way Out, a Rat Pack tale by Garth Ennis and Keith Burns .
This was really well-done and very enjoyable . I would give it 5 stars
next -
LOFTY AND THE EAGLE - and not bad at all - a bit far-fetched - but okay ( 4/5 )

THE FACE OF THE ENEMY - a old man having a flashback of 1940 whilst chatting to a classroom of kids ( the sad reality is the vast majority would have no clue what a Hawker Hurricane was , but i digress ) 3.5

WAR CHILD - for me one of the weakest strips - basically War is Hell for Kids with little action
( art was great ) 1/5 - bit woke for me , sorry

DESTROYER - Strip about 3 new recruits for HMS Campbeltown - and its subsequent use at St  :-*- set in Stalingrad - and the artwork was fabulous from Simon Coleby PJ Holden ( 5/5 )

SNIPER ELITE
- set in Stalingrad , artwork by Simon Coleby ( like Jaegir  ) its fab , 5 out of 5 for me

THE VULTURES - an old story in Battle reprinted - art by Carlos Ezquerra ( 5/ 5 )

bravo - black lion - set in Vietnam ( 4/5 ) not bad
DOUBLE HERO - Raf Story - reprint from Battle ( one I remembered !! ) 5/5

SCOURGE OF THE SKIES - very nice art and good story ( 4/5 )

el mestizo - Western epic - new story and art ( 4/5 ) not bad at all
GUSTAV OF THE BEARMACHT - good art - good story ( 5/5 )
and a dreadful 2 page cartoon COCKNEY COMMANDOS - so dire , its a 0/5 for me
total waste of 2 precious pages

so overall 4 out of 5 for me , Highlights was RAT PACK , SNIPER ELITE and DESTROYER for me
those 3 were worth it for the price alone - I am glad BATTLE got some love in 2020

thanks Rebellion !!

Prog / Re: Prog 2195 - Master of Puppets
17 August, 2020, 09:14:46 PM

Finally read my Prog this Monday night - and I enjoyed it , apart from the weak Quilli one-off
- and also THE ORDER - which is coming back for another story arc ( groan ...  )
still if others like it , then fine with me ( its different , that's for sure )

I thought DREDD - End of Days set up the next part of the story not too bad , and SINISTER DREDD
was pretty good , THE OUT is going to be well worth waiting for the next part - and I think the REGENED Prog is a great idea - that will attract new , younger readers to the Comic

I also see Pat  Mill's SPACEWRAP looks pretty damn good - its on sale on Amazon
I am just waiting till October for the paper issue but will buy a couple of extra issues and gift them to some young kids I know
also DELIGHTED - that Proteus Vex will come back soon is a new Ambassador story

Prog / Re: Prog 2194 - Smokin’ Bacon!
11 August, 2020, 09:30:11 PM
Finally the Prog arrived today , so got to read it at 7pm after work and its a great Prog

Dredd continues with an unexpected twist - I can say I am really enjoying this story .

Full Tilt Boogie sadly ends for now , and all I can say its PLEASE THARG !! I want another series -
Commission more stories from this fine lady writer

Sinister Dexter has finally returned - and its very enjoyable for the next chapter of Bulletopia .

The Order - its just so - so - for me , and yet it seems to survive yet again for another day
( my least favourite in the Prog )

The Out, - just WOW and WOW
good wishes to Dan Abnett - hope you have a speedy recovery and it was done by laparoscopy
( from an ODP in an Operating Theatre ) - kind regards
