Excellent prog. Wonderful final ep for Absalom. A very human tale in the end.

The flashback in Dredd was excellent. Love that his helmet seems to small for his head again. Thistlebone is making more sense after a re-read. Enjoying seeing Karyn's story moving forwards in Anderson.

Indigo Prime? Still not got a clue and still  not in a good John Smith kind of way.

And yes, an outstanding cover.

Thanks to Thargnote for sending me to the correct back Progs for the Pin storyline. As I grow older there's now way I can keep it all in my memory banks.

Dredd is nice and ominous. Absalom is thundering towards a climax. I don't mind the Anderson - still like that Karyn wasn't forgotten. Thistlebone has lost me - I need to go back and re-read. My problem, not the strips.

I haven't a clue what's happening with Indigo Prime. While this is in keeping with it's John Smith origins, I don't have the same trust in the author that this is going to sort itself out.

So yeah, 4/5 and even the 1/5 looks good.

Stand out for me was Absalom by a long-shot. That's not because the other strips were weak. They're not, it's a strong prog and I share the love for Thistledown.

But (avoiding spoilers) this week's Absalom ... Zarjaz!

Am I right in thinking Shoggey Beast was a bit of a last minute thing to fill a gap? May be getting that from Pat Mills "Kiss My Axe" preview, might be making it up!

McMahon drew Sky Chariots. Mills felt that the change in style from Belardinelli was too abrupt so he wrote some prequels for McMahon to illustrate. This backfired as McMahon took his new style to extreme for the prequels, which alienated the general reader and clashed with Mills' view of Slaine. (From 'Kiss My Axe'.

Definitely nice to see the Thargnote in Dredd. I had completely forgotten the story this is a sequel to!

A good prog indeed. Agree with your comments on Dredd. It's going to be interesting watching the Case Files over the next couple of years as we've hit the point where Rennie et al are beginning to make an appearance.

The only thing I'd change about this week's prog would be to actually say which issue the first Quili story appeared. If you're going to use the editorial to say it's a follow up, why not add Prog 2091 to clarify? I can see there might be a case for not adding a Thargnote in the strip itself (off putting for new readers?) but not when you're pointing out a previous strip existed. Might even flog a couple of back progs.

It would be great if Dredd could do the same (Small Houses - see progs x to x) but there's a danger that the Thargnotes might outnumber the dialogue. (In a positive, this is a word-building series kind of way).

He's more definite in a recent Comic Scene column.

Mills has confirmed there will be no more Marshal Law.

There was an interview with the editor who said they'd been put 'on hold' while they started work on the Treasury of British comics range.

I think there's only one strip with an episode missing - one of the later Ron Smith one's.

Mine is about a cm shorter than usual. Is this the same for everyone?

The first episode is set in 2099AD, so it's established as 122 years into the future at the very start. New Year & Christmas usually happen around the same time in reality and in the fiction.

Earliest indication that we see that Dredd has aged is Return of Rico & Mutie the Pig stories, where we get flashbacks to Dredd's earlier life.

Multi-part stories obviously don't have a week's gap in Dredd-time between episodes (*), so there is some drift. There wasn't a Christmas episode between Block Mania/Apocalypse War, but there was one in the contemporary Daily Star strip, which helps to tie the date of the stories around that conflict down.

(*) Although the first few episodes of Robot Wars refer to events of the previous episoed as happening seven days ago!
