From June's winner Prof T Bear :
QuoteThe Music and Dance of 2000ad - sound and motion are supposed to be tricky to pull off in comics art, so consider the gauntlet thrown.
So - what better way to kick off the return of 2000ad's premier rock star than by highlighting the musical moments from the prog throughout history - ?
and remember there
WILL BE PRIZES. ACTUAL PRIZES. For the first prize winner and for "Tharg's choice" so there's all to play for - also all entries will be featured on the Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/2000adartcomp?fref=ts) and the winner'll get an entry on COVERS UNCOVERED (http://2000adcovers.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06/bob-molesworth-smushing-pimpings.html)!
Rules be thus:
- You can have as many entries as you want but bear in mind more than one will split your vote so
IT MAY NOT BE WORTH IT.
- No entries from anything you've done previously - they have to been drawn
SPECIFICALLY FOR THISYOU HAVE UNTIL THE 28th OF JULY WHEN WE DANCE ON THE VOTING HARPISCHORD
Great theme! Quite unusual. I've already got an idea and I'm some way into my entry - this might be a rare month where I actually finish something.
Ooh - prog 167, Ro-Jaws & Hammerstein, Sam Slade's minefield outside... lots to work on here!
KLEGG MEAT HARVEST!!!!

Mind if i do a gif? itll circumvent the challenge of representing sound in a still image but it has its own challenges :)
Gifs are fine by me - but they won't work on the FB page I don't think - !
Animated gif's don't work in Facebook but that's no reason not to do one. Stupid face book
I'm finding this one a little tricky, I sort of have an idea... but I don't know.
Alas this was done a while ago, for one of the X-Mas advent calendars (it when with a Spotify play list that was 2000ad related) so can't be entered. Still nice chance to dust it off... not that the quality really warrants it!

Fair play to anyone who tries to take up
that particular gauntlet; personally I'm doing a notable scene from Tooth's past that involved music as a story point, rather than actually trying to depict any music itself. It's a brief that's fairly wide open to interpretation, I'd say.
they dont work on facebook eh? thats really strange. That wont stop me though, im doing it for the fun and pixel art/gifs are my thing :)
"He ain't heavy... he's my brother."
I've already drawn this, but if I hadn't I would.
Gonna have to get the old thinking cap on for this one..
Saying that, I'll be very disappointed if we don't get at least one disco dancing Rogue!
Think I'll give this one a miss. The only two music things from the comic i know of are Zenith would probably be a bit tedious and that fella from 'america'. Both might be a bit obvious and other than i don't read 2000ad often enough to know anything else.
Actually Bhuna, who is sunning himself on a Greek island at the moment has given me a few ideas so it's back on.
So I've been told by Bhuna that Nemesis was inspired by The Jam song 'Going underground'. Although not based on that single sleeve but rather the single 'Down in the tube station at midnight' purely because it fitted the theme just as well.

Haha very good!!
Nice one Archie. I was going to do something on Going Underground. Might have a rethink.

Haha! :D
great entries so far!
'...The human prisoners have been taken into the Terminus. One of the prisoners, Purity Brown, looks around at the grim scene... The spectre of Torquemada, overlooking the choir of Terminators chanting the xenophobic creed; the sacrficial flames rising from the Earth's molten core - waiting to consume her!; the ground opens and a huge Pandemonium rises from the crypt. Part organ, part war machine, its insane music is used to drive the Terminaotrs into a berserker frenzy! Its hooded organist seems to be playing with special glee!'

Could do with a bit more tinkering, this, but I don't want to overload it. Sometimes it's better to call it done and move on.
Stick a fork in the competition! Is three days the shortest period of time this contest has taken to find a winner?
Oh crikey, James. That is FANTASTIC! :o
holy mackerel. that is amazing. :D
Bloody hell that's good Jimbo.
WINNER!!

WINNER!!
You see that's were you have to be careful these days with the art comp. You think that then 4 others come along that have you struggling to place it!
Still that is bloody brilliant.
Dear lord! That is something else.
Oh my....
Meh.
Okay, just kidding - that's sizzling!

Haha! What with Archie doing a Nemesis - and Steve Denton and Supersurfer
also talking about doing a Nemesis - I thought I better submit mine as soon as possible before everyone got sick of Termight pictures! Who knew there was already another one on the way...!
Thanks for the gratifying praise one and all, makes the few headaches I had with the piece worthwhile. I felt bad that my Balls Brothers piece last month was little more than a glorified sketch, so I put the extra effort in this time.

See....this is what really surprises me time and time again, on this thread.....
I'm not an artist, but I can and do appreciate really good art........and I voted for the
Balls Brothers in the competition ( in the top three ) and thought it was wonderful !!.......and you ( jokingly I hope ), refer to it as little more than a glorified sketch !!....
FFS !! ...do you guys actually realise how awesomely talented you all are to be able to produce work like that, and how
truly envious those of us who can't draw / paint are, of your abilities ??? .......Never in a million years could I do anything like that ...
In addition
Dark Jimbo, your entry this month...( like every other month ) is absolutely fabulous.....Just love the detail / faces on the 'organ' pipes.....and it'll take an absolutely amazing entry to 'knock' it off the winners' place in my vote......Looking forward to seeing the rest of the months' entries...
Another amazing competition month,
Cheers....
This might be stretching the theme of the thread a bit but its the first thing that came into my head so..........

Surely Dexter's Midnight Runners.... :S
*BUMP*
YOU'VE GOT FOUR HUNDRED AND TWENTY TWO HOURS LEFT. When I put it like that it sounds very dramatic. But actually, yeah that's a few weeks.
First time entry, hope it's up to standard. With all the hot weather surfing has been on me mind (not that I'd be any use on a board, waterborne or airborne!!!

Nice one--and welcome to the forum!
I've not posted anything in ages but couldn't resist this one...

Dan
That I like!
Two stunning entries! Well done the pair o' you! :)
But where does the biochip go?
So you think that Nemesis the warlock is only extremely tenuously based on, 'going underground' by The Jam. Well you obviously haven seen the snapshots Bruce Foxton took of Paul Weller when they were researching the song.

That's a bit SmArt Steve! Like it :)
love that steve, what did you use for all the fine lines? or was the image quite big?
Another iPad effort. It's Chubby Drokker and the Flab Boys doing a HIT in the year 2109....
Thanks :) . I used a 0.1 0.2 and 0.3 Pilot DR for most of the inking with a little but of brush and marker pen for good measure. (the original drawing is in an A3 sketch book)
might have to get me some of them! A 0.1mm nib sounds much finer than any of the pens i have now, and i have some fiddly stuff to draw! thanks :)
@timewaster haha chubby drokker, that made me laugh
Great stuff here already! It will be another top quality month!
Being a fan of the original Chubby Checker track 'Chubby Drokker' is a particular fav!
Jeez, Steve, that's a bit good. Your Paul Weller reminds me of those Look-In strips of famous people. "Oooer... I better hop it".
Chubby Drokker... good one, Time Waster.
Thanks for the mention, Albion. I've been immortalised in fan art as a city block – now as graffiti.

That's the look I had in mind :D I spent the whole time imagining him saying 'bloody 'ell'

There are some others on there but they are obscured by the band.
The red one behind them is Large 48, Pete Wells Block is on the left but you can make that out OK, The green one on the right is Minty and the bottom one is Crazyfoxmachine.
Not done for the comp, but the subject matter is almost bang on so....
These are two of the table markers I drew for my wedding mixing two of my favourite things, comics and music. Being a long time 2000AD fan, needless to say I sat at the Dredd table!

My submission features Judge Death as he appears in 'Judgement on Gotham', the first time that Batman and Judge Dredd cross paths. Judge Death has been bought back by the Scarecrow and has to improvise with what is at hand to create his robes of office utilising a rack of ribs and chicken carcass. At the climax of the story he takes to the stage at a Rock concert causing carnage whilst singing to the tune of 'Sympathy for the Devil' by The Rolling Stones.
Wow !!!, allistermac
Really liking that Judge Death doing Sympathy for the Devil... :D
Great stuff...
Cheers
Thanks Sideshow Bob, I might add a splash of colour if I get the time.
Aye, thats very good!
Nice work allistermac.
I'm thinking when we get the final gallery in August it's going to be surpisingly good for what I think was a tricky, yet interesting brief.

Thanks for the kind words, here's the coloured version.
Love this, allistermac......
Can't help but laugh at the chicken nailed to his shoulder.......Brilliant !!.....
I'm with Stu101 on this as I thought it would be an extremely difficult ( but interesting ) challenge this Month, but the entries have been incredible.... :D
Cheers
I am sickened by the lack of Space Girls entries.

Here we see the Maestro Massimo Belardinelli using his paintbrush to conduct a band of characters he touched with his brilliance as others dance in the moonlight to the crazy tunes!
This is my tribute to Massimo, long may he be remembered.

Many thanks to Pete Wells for stitching this together on computer for me and adding the wonderful 2000ad logo.
After Skullmo's touching tribute to Massimo I shall cheapen the compo with...
Dredd playing the muthfukkin' spoons.

Wow Brendan Purchase. That's a first post and a half.
And amazing stuff all round.
I bloody love that. Looks like he's playing the world's most righteous riff. The face makes it for me. That's the face of a man who is rocking the fuck out.
Cheers man that's a brilliant description. Pretty much what I was going for.
I can only echo Pop's sentiments. A corcking first entry to the monthly competition.
Me again plugging away... getting there.
Many thanks again for allowing me to add this so late CFM!
