In the past there have been problems with Hotmail users not receiving their passwords, but it seems that there is now a major problem with emails sent from this site being blocked by AOL.
Are there any aol users out there who find they can receive any of the following:
Password reminders
Message Threads
Sendmails
Email verification codes on
The 2000AD Artwork Galleryetc
These emails seem to be just vanishing, i.e. not even bouncing back to any of the site addresses.
If any AOL users can still get site mails, then I'd like to know who and whether only some type of mails are getting through.
Cheers,
Wake
damn AOL
Is there anyone *happy* with AOL?
I'd genuinely like to know, as I'd sooner go without the internet in my home altogether than go back to those unreliable, money-grabbing, constantly disconnecting shits and their IT people who LIE TO YOUR FACE and tell you its your brand new computer that's at fault, even though it was working perfectly well in the shop, *and* when you were using a different service provider.
Yep, Aol can be dodgy there was a time when I couldn't sign on for two whole days, now i'm on a new version and it semms to be more reliable. at the moment
Any company that could be so arrogant as to rewrite all your computer's settings and make itself incompatible with half the known universe does not get my vote.
And now they run Warner Brothers.
"And now they run Warner Brothers."
...and by extension, DC Comics. Now, what sort of fool would want AOL/Time Warner to snap up Rebellion & 2000AD?
;-)
only the newest systm will work. Loads of compnaies do it, old systems stop working. new one comes out soon after problems start claiming to fix all the bugs. The companies lose all the cutomers who realise it's a scam.
I haven't been getting stuff sent to me from other users from this site (and I'm with the AOL - the evil corporation!)
I'm not getting anything from ed (really, I never got the re-scans of 1a-d)
I think I've narrowed the problem down to the Return Path which is set by default to nobody at rebellion.webshopdevelopment.propagation.net
Hopefully I'll sort out a solution soon.
Cheers,
Wake
you know what I think would be the best solution? for those affected to change isp
I'm a completely happy AOL user. The only time I had a problem was during the short but eventful period when I had a BT line (now THEY are evil...)
AOL allows me to surf the net a hell of a lot faster than the other packages I've tried, at a fair and reasonable price, and its security system hasn't let one virus through yet.
I never understand when people kvetch about it.
I've just made a change to the email verification sendmail on the Artwork Gallery.
Please could an AOL user test it. If it works I'll appy the same fix to the 2000adonline sendmails.
Cheers,
Wake

don't work for me :(
No luck so far.
That said, AOL is still one of the best ISPs out there.
I haven't received any mails from the site for over a week now! Up until then I've never experienced any problems with AOL and I've been using AOL for over 7 years!
The test didn't work for me either Wake!
Help! I miss my board e-mails!!!
wouldn't you rather have exciting emails than board ones? ;-)
aol is a bunch of arse and far too restrictive as an isp. i have several websites that i can run mail from provided i use an outgoing smtp provider address. aol block these as a matter of course, plus they block most of my e-mail.
aol suck...big time
luckily my webhosts let me use their smtp system or i'd never get any mail from this message board.
Wake, I've just amended my Email address and I'm now back on an AOL account. Not had a password reminder sent out though.

I've been in touch with the hosting company (CIHost), and it appears that AOL have blocked one of their mail servers. Hopefully they will sort it out soon. Please post to this thread if you are an AOL user and get a site email.
Cheers,
Wake

It looks like php mail isn't going to be able to reach AOL members from this site in future so I've adopted a low tech solution. Registrations, password reminders and sendmails to AOL members (but not sendmail copies, or message board messages) now come to me so I can manually forward them to their correct destination (during working hours). The same is also true of the 2000AD Artwork Gallery.
Cheers,
Wake
Hey Wake, I've just received my first e-mail posting from the site since AOL started blocking it, it's the first post on thread 12473, any ideas why this has come through but no others are?
I tweaked the sendmail coding today to try and solve a similar problem for other ISPs and tried something that I think I missed when looking for a solution for AOL users = an extra parameter "-f2000adonline@2000adonline.com" in the mail command
Please can AOL users try emailing a thread to themselves to see if it works for the majority of you.
Cheers,
Wake
It's being blocked
Whoops. You probably got a thumbs down from the site, because I'd disabled that feature for AOL users. Please could you try again.
Cheers,
Wake
Got through that time okay
E-mailing threads seems to work now, cheers. But I still don't seem to be getting postings as e-mails.
Whay Scottys Back!! Happy new year man
Happy new year Max and everyone else. Don't know if I'll be around much, depends if Wake gets the AOL problem sorted or if I can get my life sorted out, depends which comes first!!
Don't know if this is the same problem, but my password isn't working: I'm having to log on as my female alter ego. Any idea why?
Time of the month ?
I'm sorry
{Sigh}
"Men!"
Obviously trout turned you into a woman again.
