This event - organized by Cork County Library and Arts Service - might be of interest to those Squaxx living in, or near Cork, Ireland. Particularly those with sprogs.

Film & TV / Rogue's Gallery
26 September, 2022, 02:12:35 PM
Great news for my niece, Hannah Rose May. Her comic book "Rogue's Gallery" - which has received rave reviews and done really well - has been picked up by Don Cheadle for development as a TV series. I'm so proud of and delighted for her!

Off Topic / What a Hero!
17 July, 2019, 12:55:00 PM
Just reading the RIP thread had me thinking, why not praise and celebrate people and their good deeds while they're still alive? They don't all necessarily have to be daredevils - although such stories are welcome! - but what they do should be of a benefit to society and for the betterment of their fellow citizens.

To which end, I attach the following link and propose second world war veteran John Hemingway as a true hero and worthy of celebration.

For any Squaxx around or near Dublin this coming Thursday, the exhibition linked below might be of interest.

I rather like what I've seen so far, so I think it might be worth a look.

Film & TV / The Hole in the Ground
13 February, 2019, 01:31:58 PM
For those of you who are old enough to recall this song, here is a wonderfully eerie rendition of it, as recorded by the sublimely talented Lisa Hannibal for the soundtrack of an upcoming new Irish horror film "The Hole in the Ground".

"Super creepy song alert!
I recorded a version of the Irish playground song 'Weile Waile' for the The Hole in the Ground, which opens tonight in Dublin (and I am building up the courage to go and see). Proceed with caution...

Recorded in Orphan Recording last year in the snow.

Off Topic / Lord of the Rings Themed Pub

I can only imagine Tolkien's Reaction if he walked into the bar featured in the link below. The literary snob in me is appalled by the idea of this pub, while the geeky Alco-nerd - hovering over my left shoulder - is screaming: "Bring me! Bring me! Bring me!"

Good to see some balance, at last, on the topic of domestic violence. Interesting to note, that those bastions of equality like The Guardian and The Irish Times have conveniently chosen to ignore the article below. No doubt they are terrified of upsetting the Sisterhood, who have also been predictably quiet about this subject.

If only Slaine was around today. What a pleasure it would be to see him using Brain-biter on the mindless fuck-wit who vandalised one of the most sacred Irish monuments, as detailed in the link below.

As someone who, in the past, has experienced the almost existential pain caused by stepping barefoot on stray lego blocks, I'm inclined to agree with the priest in the story below, lol.

Help! / My Mouse is on Speed!
08 December, 2011, 01:37:05 PM
Hah! Thought that would grab your attention!

But seriously, I'm having serious problems with a jumpy, wireless mouse cursor on my Dell Windows Vista laptop. Fucking thing is bouncing around the screen like it's on speed. I've tried looking online but may as well be reading Chinese as figure out the "instructions" that are given. And Dell are a waste of space. Any suggestions much appreciated!  (It's taken me ages just to correctly configure this short paragraph, by the way.)

Cheers and thanks - Paddy

Anyone know when / if Blade Runner is getting a 30th Anniversary cinema re-release next year? (I know, having seen the movie when it first came out, I feel old thinking about this too!)

Suggestions / 2000ad shop query
25 May, 2011, 06:15:55 PM
I've just been trying to make my way around the 2000ad shop and I can't seem to find any information about waiting times, delivery charges/postage and packaging costs for products being sent to Ireland? It would help to know precisely how many yo-yo's I'll have to fork out before I have to go through all the bother of loading up payment cards, figureing out Sterling to Euro conversion costs etc. In case it aint obvious, I'm a bit of a Luddite when it comes to figureing out all this online shopping lark. God be with the day when ye could just walk into a store and get what ye wanted from behind a shelf! Any assistance would be much appreciated. Cheers!

Off Topic / dodgy looking threads in off-topic
11 April, 2011, 11:28:32 AM
I'm wondering if the economic thrill-suckers / scam artists have broken into the Galaxy's greatest website? I refer to the threads in here referring to Student loans etc as posted by "Timpton-West". Haven't even risked opening any of them for fear of viruses etc. Can our local, friendly moderator please check them out? Keep this site a thrill-sucker free zone!

Off Topic / Happy St Patrick's Day!
16 March, 2011, 02:19:10 PM
Just wanted to wish all my fellow boarders a Happy St Patrick's Day! (No relation by the way...cough! cough!). My Dredd Paddy's Day T-shirt is ready and waiting to be donned for this special occassion, so all that remains is to get to the off-license to stock up on some cans and bottles for the day. Forget about the recession etc. In times of crisis, the only solution is to get blissfully, maggoty drunk. (I should know: it works for me!)

Cheers to y'all!

P.S. The Management accept no responsibility for any offence caused by the blatant perpetuation of insulting racial stereotypes. And I'm only saying that now because I'll be in no condition to pronounce, never mind repeat it tomorrow!
