P.J Maybe.

The interesting thing about P.J Maybe, in the context of a movie, is that he changes his face all the time. It's part of (adult) P.J's M.O. SO there could be several actors all playing the same part. They would all have to collaborate in order to portray a consistent character. That would be a challenge.

He could be a cool "thing" running in the background. Either someone people is quick to call out if for example someone died (bit like Killroy was here) or just having constant news about a killer who seems to go without a face called "given the name/alias PJ Maybe"(like John Doe).

Definitely Booth and Death. I'll try to mix some thoughts into it. The Booth one could tell the origin story (Dredd could have been cloned to become a living symbol, but Fargo lost faith in what he'd done in his last days, a thread Dredd starts to follow) and the Death could be a horror story who deals with the dangers of relying to much on legends and what not.

It's just some ideas I'm throwing -around- into it. Hope I don't come off as s Scotty wannabe writing this, since it's his job to make Wagner and Garland realise that a perfect adaption would have hovering cars and vehicles with CGI-weapons on them ;)

Second movie: Robert L. Booth and Total War.

The democratic march being brutaly struck down with Dredd feeling remorse afterwards. When it's portrayed as a success democrats starts to look for Robert L Booth in the wasteland, in hopes to re-instate him.
Dredd is ordered to assassinate Booth, and sees it himself as a favour for the democrats not to be lead by a creep like Booth.

Third movie: Judge Death & C/o

Dredd having assassinated Booth in some cool way returns to MC1. There he works the system towards something that could lead to something better, which in a sense means towards democracy. At the same time a psi judge doesn't agree with Dredd. Feeling that Dredd has betrayed everyone.
He then comes into contact with Slomo and starts a mass-halicunation(Slomo upping his brain powarz). His idolisation of the "old Dredd" leads him to "become" Judge Death in peoples eyes. Since he wants to judge Dredd for his failings in protecting the system, he sees the system everywhere and in everyone. And everyone must die.

He also makes people halicunate Judge Fire (people see him when they start fires/he makes people start fires), Judge Fear scares people to jump off ledges and kill each other and Jugde Decay can be seen standing besides dead bodies and looking over them.

Dredd then uses ass kicking and Anderson her psi powers cranked up to 11 to seattle the deal. It ends well with just a couple of millions dead, Dredd stands as a reminder that people can be mislead into doing bad stuff. And himself he reminds everyone that building a new system could be more dangerous than destroying one.

Dredd then rides his motorbike into the sunset to the sound of Motörhead - Back at the funny farm. (Of all things, that's the one thing I'd like to see the most  :D)

..................erm.................OK...................you'd best get this gold to Alex Garland quickly before someone beats you to it.

Thanks Bates. I was mostly just thinking about what stories I'd want to see as movies, and a mix of Necropolis and Origins came to mind.

I think the cursed earth/origins could make good use of some of the democracy timeline. I'd simply love Dredd having remorse over getting a letter from a kid that died because of the democracy march, and then atone by killing Booth.

The reason to kill Booth came from that I read a piece about America, where a former activist wrote that she really wanted total war to be "better", and that could be a cool angle to give Dredd: Not entirely helping Total war gaining power, but at least making them a bit better by not getting help from a tyrant. I often feel the same when leftists(consider this, that more or less everyone is a leftis in Sweden ;) ) make use of names of bad names to put weight into what they say.

And the hallucinations of Judge Death & co could play quite well into tying the SloMo-case and Dredd's remorse together I think.

Not going to far with sewing everything together, but instead giving it consequences. I really think for example Decay watching over dead bodies like an angel and people being ruled by fire to turn the city ablaze could host quite some 80's Carpenter style thriller/scary movie punch. A dark night with a great piece of the city lit by fire.

The hallucinations could be very hypnotic like those in Batman begins instead of "boogie man" alike, and which would go well with the 3D stuff.

Maybe I'll write something together and post it to 2000ad. I won't give it any hopes on going anywhere, but it can't hurt can it :) Well if I'd get to hear Motörhead - funny farm in a Dredd movie I'd die on the spot, but at least because of awesome happiness.

I got some replies.

On FB from Dredd 3D(I think Lionsgate is behind it): "Thanks for the feedback Carl! We're definitely looking into it."

and from the 2000ad Twitter: "Yes, we noticed. Have passed comments on to Lionsgate, but nothing we can do beyond on that."

They're doing a great job responding. Hope it's sorted as quickly too!

Some of those links on The Dredd Report link to actual stories, such "Mega-City One Dealer Sentenced to Iso-Cube For Stabbing Man to Death..."which links to a BBC Tayside and Central Scotland page "Perth drug dealer jailed for stabbing man to death" Poor form, I thought. :-[
Got to agree with you there. While links to stories such as 'Judge Dredd endorses Mitt Romney' (a real news article) kind of work, I don't think it's a good idea for The Peach Tree News to have a 'Judges suspected of rape' link that takes the user to a real story about Liberian policemen suspected of gang raping a teen. Not comfortable with that.

I was thinking the same thing. There has to be some better choices of news to turn turn into head lines than that.

For example, this? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-19323061 "Obesity 'bad for brain' by hastening cognitive decline" could easily be translated into something.

or http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/china/7557799/Oriental-yeti-discovered-in-China.html being turned into something about "strange creatures of the waste land"

Should be at least one or two hundred different Cracked.com articles about crime fighting and what not to get some inspiration from. Because "judges suspected of rape" and alike will only likely inspire people to give the movie a bad rep.

I'll post this to the Facebook-page and on twitter. A heads up to those behind it. The idea "is good", but not in the long term.

I'v made a push at the local cinema that they should show it. Told them all about the love put into it (For example the Judge Minty tribute) and so on. I compared the gore to robocop, and it sounded like if it wasn't a problem.

The release date in sweden is in october, so hopefully the movie gains enough speed till then to become something people want to see :)

Great to see Anderson fighting for a second, looks great. The way they cut it in the first trailer made it look a bit strange (like if she got to pull free punches all over) and made me a bit worried.

I bought 2 and 3. I love that each book feels like it's own story. Book two about Johnny against Kreeler and the third about revenge for a norweigan viking and a dog :D

And damn, I want Johnny on the silver screen. What I'd give to see the french director behind Amelie from Montmartre to do those time bombs sequences "and then there was just vacuum" justice :)

I was thinking this when seeing the poster, in a "Dredd is even freaking more awesome than a green intergalactic cyborg warrior!"-way!

Well, when I think about it, especially when you mention Robin Hood. I may a bit blinded by the briliance of Blade Runner :-[

Well. The counselor looks promising. A good script penned by McCarthy(who just seems to get better and better at it), and hopefully Ridley doing a good job.

Other than that. Says in this interview http://collider.com/ridley-scott-prometheus-deleted-scenes-interview/172202/ both that he's happy with Prometheus, but it still looks like if there could be an extended cut. I don't think it will cure what's wrong with it, not for me at least, but still. Could be interesting.

Triple Cross from 1966. Christopher Plummer playing Eddie Chapman in a true story made into good movie fun. He sleeps with women, blows up safes and plays both the limeys and krauts when his real alliance is to himself, a real charmer. And the intro theme is, well amazing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kw_uUzTY0-w

How good were those films and did they cost nearly $200 million?

Not their best movies, not in my opinion at least. But still solid films. And I don't such directors care that much what money they got to their table. At least not Ridley and Kurosawa.

And Kagemusha and Ran by Akira was some of his last films, and probably his biggest. Ran is one of the best films I'v ever seen.

Well well. Time will probably tell, not some comparison made by me on a forum. But still, if you have chance you should watch Ran. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbbfDntoRRk

I don't expect a Prometheus sequel to ever materialise - Scott has the Counselor, Blade Runner sequel and whatever else in-between to keep him busy so he either passes on the directing mantle to someone else or it's just left as one of those just in case on-the-shelf projects.

And not forgetting that he'll be 75 later this year, and, well, how old by the time Prometheus 2 rolls round?

Seriously, how many of these huge projects does he think he has left in him?

Writer Cormac McCarthy is 79 and still kicking and Akira Kurosawa directed his last movie at the age of 83 and Ingemar Bergman his at 85. Ridley should have a good 10 years left ;)

Anyone who read Brian Azzarello's Luthor?

If this one looks as good as it does, then Luthor could be a very fine concept for a follow up. I really love what it does to both Superman and Luthor as characters.

Luthor actually being close to having a point bringing superman down, and superman being portrayed as a dangerous alien.
