Title: Britformers Comic
Post by: we66y on 29 July, 2017, 11:33:05 AM
https://m.facebook.com/Britformers/

Brychen Travers and myself have created a Transformers fanzine.  It's set in Britain and all the vehicles and house hold objects the characters transform into are British. We decided to set the story in the 1960s and based many of the characters appearances and personalities on famous Brits.  We've also tried to give the whole book a retro feel, avoiding digital colouring and doing the sort of articles and extras that used to be present in old British comics.
Issue zero is at the printers now, we'll be giving it away free at various comic cons as well as publishing it on the Britformers FB page.

I'm in if there's a transforming Reliant Robin.

EDIT - I see you have a Mini - that's close enough.

There's a reason for the current lack of robo-space helmets which will be explained in the story.  It's not your typical goodies vs baddies story, less cowboy and Indians more Italian Job/Great train robbery.

There's no reliant Robin as of yet but we're thinking of having a poll to decide the next bot, so it's possible (yes we know this could open our selves up for a "boaty McBoat Face" scenario).

Just in case you intentionally quoted me there, I'd like to make it clear I was just suggesting a name for a Robin Reliant Transformer and not using bizarre and previously unknown adjectives to describe the heads of robots.

Tch... If I had a fiver for every time I've had to say that...

Sorry M.I.K. I was trying to quote smith who had quoted you, he said he didn't like the human heads.

Great idea. Although as others have said the heads don't look right. Looks like humans in robot suits.

Lots of people seem to be resistant to the change in this status quo, but I assure you it's explained in the story why the Britformers have removed their War like Robo-Space helmets.  I really hope people stick with the story long enough to see why we've used this as a visual metaphor and I hope people like the very different story we've constructed.

OK. It does look interesting. But I thought they were their heads not Robo-Space helmets?

Hi JLC,
I guess it depends which irritation of the Transformers you're referring to but in the recent IDW TF comics several robots have been seen to remove their helmets. https://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/6597479.html

I think this looks like fun. Absolutely can't stand the Michael Bay version of Transformers. but was a big fan of the Marvel UK iteration and if you can capture that spirit then you're onto a winner.

Also, I don't get the criticism about the heads. The robots here look cool, and in any case, a bit of creative licence is perfectly reasonable.

They're giant space robots that can change themselves into exact replicas of Volvos and flippin' audio cassettes and dinosaurs and stuff. There's no reason why they can't have humanier heads if they want them.

We're selling the comic on eBay, it's only a short story and supposed to be a free giveaway but we appreciate not everyone is attending the cons we're going to so the price is literally postage and packing.

If anyone on this board is interested in writing a review of issue zero PM.
